Dark truth

Jared could hear a scream that was the proof of an incredibly broken heart, from someone who has lost the reason for living, the reason to breathe. He could listen that heart-breaking symphony but did not know where it came from, until a female voice broke it with sad kindness. -          Jared! – Said Marie while running to him – Oh Jared, my dear brother, please, it will have a solution. I promise. We will get her back from the depths of hell. -          No! This must be a nightmare! – Said Jared with tears running down his face – My love cannot be freed, she is gone there. -          No, my brother, please… your plea is breaking my heart, we will bring her back. We just need to find a way. Marie went to his brother who had fallen to his knees and held him tight to her arms trying to comfort his broken soul, but it was just impossible, his heart was gone, he could only feel pain deep inside and there was not much she could do but hold him and help him go back up to his feet. Marie pushed him up and held his weight to go back to their dorm. Even if there was holiday, they were staying there the night. When sun comes up, they will think on a plan to take Lilith back from the underworld.   Walking Jared might have seen like a normal task, but Marie noticed with every step that it was harder and harder, so instead of taking him to his room, she decided to take him to hers; it was nearer and not as high as his was. Once inside, she told Amanda that his brother was staying for the night. -          Again? But why? There is holiday! – Said Amanda – You have no excuse this time! -          Please Amanda, he is broken-hearted and I do not want to leave him alone for the night. -          Ok, I understand. But what happened? Why would he be so badly broken-hearted? I thought He and Lilith were… -          Lilith was kidn*pped tonight. In front of him and he was not able to do anything, he shocked and did not know what to do until it was too late. -          Oh dear, I cannot believe it! He must be destroyed. -          Yes, and not only that, but all this happened after he proposed to her and she accepted. -          Now I understand it, is he ok? -          I hope tomorrow he will be in a way so we can make a plan to get Lilith back otherwise, I do not know what will happen to my brother. Amanda gave Marie a small hug and wish her all the strength she needed and to Jared so they both could get out of the dark sadness they were in.     Once inside the room, Marie looked at Jared. He had lost his soul. He looked dark, tired, dead. His eyes were glassy, his skin greyish in a deadly was and his energy was turning off. She suddenly got worried, it was not looking good, if they were planning on going down to Mors domains they needed to be as strong as they could and keep the light inside for as long as they could. Marie took Jared to Lilith´s bed and made him lay there until he fell asleep between tears of pure sadness. She was looking at him while sleeping. She was worried about the whole situation, but there was something that did not fill in, as soon as sun-light hit the window on the next day, Jared would have to pick up his pieces and explain to her exactly what had happened that night; without that information there was nothing they could do.       Morning arrived faster than Jared imagined or wanted. Last night had to be a nightmare, just a bad memory inflicted by stress or something. He caught a deep breath and the smell of Lilith filled his lungs and his soul with brightness and joy. However, it was soon dissolved by the awful reality once he opened his eyes. He was in her beloveds but she was not there; just then he understood. Last night had been real; Davin had taken his soul mate and given her to Joseph. He never saw that coming, he knew the moon hated her daughter, but never imagined that that much. Jared got up, and felt his heart get broken when looking at her things, laying there as if she was going to cross the door to the room in any second. However, he knew the truth; it was not going to happen unless they did something to help her. He knew Lilith was completely capable of protecting herself, but this time the enemy was tougher and much more dangerous than Joseph, even if his participation in all this was obvious. She was going to need help to get out of there, but how could they help her? That was the main cuestion. Jared got up with his heart broken at the memory of his lost love, and looked at Marie, she was laying down in her bed looking as peaceful as an angel does, but he noticed that her eyes were red and wet with tears. He should not forget that her best friend was also missing and that he was not the only one suffering that lose. He went to Marie and softly touched her uncovered arm to wake her up; she opened her eyes slowly with the same hopeful light he knew he had when he opened his, but as soon as she saw Jared, it disappeared. It had all been real.  She sat on the bed and looked up at him with tears in her eyes. -          Jared, please tell me it was just a terrible nightmare. Please. -          Ah Marie, I wish I could tell you the words my heart is longing to hear. Unfortunately, I cannot pronounce them because I would be lying. -          We must bring her back! We have to help her! – Said Marie with tears in her eyes again – please Jared. We must bring her back. Jared held her sister in his arms in a tight hug they both needed comfort and that hug even if it was not the perfect one or the one they were both expecting helped their souls to feel at ease. They had to think on a way to take her out of Mors domains. They stayed in each other’s hug for what seemed like an eternal minute before getting up, dressed and ready to make up a plan for the rescue, but they needed help, maybe Martha could help; after all she was supposed to be Lilith´s best friend. -          I think we should talk to Martha – Said Jared with hope in his voice – maybe she has an idea on how to manage this this, after all, she is supposed to be Lilith´s best friend. -          No! Jared, do not even think about that woman! -          Marie… Why? What is going on? -          Are you telling me you did not know? – Said Marie with shock in her voice – Everyone knows about the story of that girl! -          Well apparently, everyone but me, would you mind to elaborate dear sister? -          Martha Johns is Davin´s informant on Lilith! She is the one who gave her up and the one in charge of distracting her that last night so you met her and took her to the forest! Martha gave her up to Joseph! -          Sorry Marie, but I cannot believe that. She was Lilith´s best friend; I doubt she gave her up to such a horrible fate. She could not have done it! -          Typical of you my dear brother. Believing anyone but your own sister. I should have known better – Marie sighed with frustration – if you do not believe me, go ask her. Be my guest. Jared felt angry and frustrated at the thought of what Marie had said. How dare she make up something like that? Which kind of person could invent something like it? He never thought his own sister would try to make such an issue out of what, Jealousy. Who knows? With that, Marie left the room.       Jared went out looking for Martha, even if he did not believe his sister at all, he had the feeling that she had something to say about this, and maybe she would be able to help him. At least that is what he hoped.     Jared was walking through college grounds near Lilith´s former dorm, maybe he would be able to find his lover´s best friend near that place; unfortunately, when he arrived to the door of one of the buildings everyone has gone because of the holiday. He kept walking a few more meters. His soul began feeling the desperation of not finding someone who could guide or help him in this situation. Then his mind went back to his sister. Marie. What if she was telling him the truth about Martha and she just left after playing her part? -          No, it is not possible she is her best friend! – Said Jared on a whisper to himself. He began walking towards his own building feeling broken, how it was possible that he could not help his beloved one. He was the son of the sun for blood´s sake! He should be able to do something. His steps stopped at the thought and the feeling of helplessness, but then a noise caught his attention. There were steps. Soft, light steps that were going behind him but far enough for him not to notice them on a first moment. Those steps were female, no man could walk so softly, almost cat like; he turned his head and saw the blond wavy hair he has been looking for. Those steps belonged to Martha. Jared smile appeared to his face and relief covered his soul as a calming balm. He knew she could not be a part of it. He walked towards her the few meters which separated them but went shocked once he saw Martha trying to run away; he caught her shoulder strong enough for her to know that he would not her go and made her turn around. Shock hit him again; Martha´s eyes were red as if she had been crying for the last week non-stop. What could be the reason of that. -          Martha, I have been looking for you! – Said Jared feeling better but worried at her expression – what is going on? Is there something I can do to make you feel better? -          Just… - she was trying to talk but sobs cut her – Just… Just bring her back… please… -          Bring who back? What is going on Martha? -          Lilith, please… Just bring her back; it was not her fault nor choice… Just bring her back safe and sane. I would not forgive myself if something happened to her. Please Jared! Just bring her back. -          What are you talking about? – Said Jared with bitterness in his words – did you know what was going to happen to her? How? -          No, I did not know what the main objective was, but I was ordered to distract Lilith yesterday night so she went out alone. I would receive a call the moment I could let her go, and fake I still had to pick up my things, or any excuse so she went out alone. -          Are you telling me, you have been a part of this all this time? – This time anger was covering every single word he pronounced – tell me the truth Martha! -          Y… Yes… Yes Jared, I am so sorry but I had to!... I had to do… -          What? What is that huge reason you had to betray your best friend to a fate, which is worse than death itself? -          I… I just wanted to be free… I wanted to live! – Said Martha with tears and shame in her eyes – I just wanted my nightmare to be over! -          What?... What are you talking about? -          Lilith’s mother… She put a curse on me… - Martha sighed – and she said that she would free me if I did everything she commanded… -          Davin? You have been working for her all this time – Said Jared with incredulity – So you were the informant. Oh, b****y hell! How was I so blind? I should have listened to Marie. And I thought you were on her side and you would help me bring her back! -          Jared, I never meant to… I was scared… -          Yes, so scared that you did not tell your best friend about the situation. We could have helped you, but now my priority is Lilith and bringing her back. Jared looked up at the sky looking for the normal place the moon is at night and screamed to the sky. -          Are you listening to me Davin! I found out your tricks! I will bring Lilith back even if it costs me my mortal life, you will not get away with this! He looked back at Martha with hate in his eyes (not completely directed to her) and whispered to her something that was on another language, an old one. One, which Martha could not understand, but for the sound of it, maybe it was better that way. Jared began walking back to Lilith´s dorm with anguish and disappointment in his heart. He should have heard his sister; he should have seen the signals. Now he was completely alone, but he needed some help; an apology to Marie was the first step, and with some luck, she would agree to help him get his soul mate back.
