Chapter 1
Dahlia’s POV
I opened my eyes as a stream of early morning sun bathed my bedroom with a golden glow, the warm rays settling on my face brought a sense of peace and calm. I contentedly rolled over to check the time on my alarm clock as a wave of panic set in, “I’m late” I declared to my empty room as I grabbed the outfit I had chosen the night before an rushed to grab a shower.
I didn’t have time for my usual use-all-the-hot-water soak in the shower, I had to get ready and meet my friends outside school in our usual spot. I hopped out of the shower, dressed and styled my hair. I went for a volumized hair down look for my long dark straight hair, which consisted of mousse and drying my hair upside down. But limited time meant limited options. Finished off with some minimal makeup and I headed downstairs.
As I entered the kitchen I saw my mam and dad, my dad was in his usual breakfast spot at the table reading his paper with a cup of coffee whilst my mam buzzed around tidying and organising everything for everyone. I often wonder where she gets the energy to look after all us so well and still hold down a full-time job at the local paper, but I didn’t have time to wonder. I sat at the table and began inhaling the breakfast my mother had already made. Full English breakfast with toast, I wouldn’t have time to eat it all so I decided to rush through the sausage and scrambled eggs before grabbing my toast to go.
“good morning” I said looking towards my breakfast.
“good morning Dahlia, sleep in did we?” my dad teased from across the table before returning to his paper, my mother still waiting on my response.
“yeah, better get going or I’m going to be late” I rushed out as I finished my breakfast and grabbed my bag, jacket and toast. “I’ll see you after school”.
It was the last few weeks of school and then I would be free for summer break. Every year my friends and I spend the summer hanging out, shopping, taking in a movie, going to parties and sleeping over at each other’s houses. We have been friends since we were little and were inseparable.
