"I don't regret though..."Victoria, even after choosing to pay Henry off through Alexander Bennet, she still had a soft heart that one day Alex will turn out to be the romantic guy she always read in books while at the library."He's always away, not giving you attention!" Camila objected."Maybe because I literally sold myself to him!"

CHAPTER 1: BLACKOUT
CHAPTER 1: “Arrg...” Victoria groaned and scratched her head, brushing the wave of black hair away from her face. Under her arm was tucked a number of books, while some were hanging freely from her right arm. She ran up the stairs going past other busy library workers. “Busy today...” rushing past Camila, she dropped the comment and flashed a quick smile. “Busy evening!” Camila rubbed her chin while arranging the books on the shelves of the second floor. “I see you're no better.” “Say no more...” Victoria laughed and continued up the stairs without adding another word. Her grey eyes shown in the last evening rays of the sun before darkness closed in. On the fourth floor, she quickly but carefully arranged the business book shelves while slowly humming a song under her breath not to bother with those who frequently visited the National Library. Done! She winked her eyes while admiring the smartly arranged shelves while turning around while lifting her right leg lightly and making a clean spin. She had done this severally since the very day dye walked into the National Library and learnt to enjoy her work. Even though she hadn't been here for long, she still valued being where she was. “Finally, I got a few minutes before closure...” she murmured under her breath while grabbing her favourite romance book with a colourful cover and glancing outside as the streets lights filtered into the brightly lit library. She walked to her favourite spot and sat down to continue from where she last stopped. It was a designated place among the many shelves where she found her comfort always. A smile was plastered on her face as she went through the pages, her eyes shining in anticipation. “Huh! You’re done already?” Camila walked over with a children colourful book in her arm. Victoria looked up with a smile... “Yeah...” “Still reading that book?” Camila asked while bending to confirm the cover. “What's so good about it?” “You've seen this romance movies right?” Victoria closed the book with one of her fingers locking on the page she was reading. “Like the Korean fairy movies and series?” Camila asked. “Yeah... This book is more than that!” she said with her eyes shining. “I feel trapped every time I lower my head to read.” “I didn't know you were such a bookworm!” Camila commented. “I wouldn't be here, I wouldn't have loved this job any better.” Sitting next to her, Camila opened a business book and started reading. Confused, Victoria looked at her with a frown. “Didn’t know you liked reading about business!” Victoria said. “Don’t mind me, my priorities are quiet confused every time.” Camila laughed and shrugged, ignoring the penetrating gaze from her friend. “You mean?” Victoria asked, even more confused. “I started taking a part-time course in business last month. That was before you came since you've been here less than two weeks!” “Why? You don't like being a librarian?” Victoria asked. “No... Not that. Actually, with the current economy, there is no harm having more than one skill, right? I wish to be a secretary or even more some day. It will all depend with how much I earn from which job after all!” she said with beaming eyes. “Quite an idea.” Victoria didn't take it negatively. “You like where you are? I mean, being a librarian?” Camila asked. “Very... Very much. Besides, it's an honour working at a National Library. I thought I would get employed by a school library or even one small bookshop. So... I have all reasons to be contented.” She said and turned back to the pages. Camila looked at her with a grin on her face... “I like your determination girl..” “Thank you!” taking it positively, Victoria said and pulled at her collar. “I like your dream too...” Camila replied with a quick smile before looking at the book in her hand, all attention drifting back to the white pages. Victoria rolled her eyes over the line, then her face blushed a little bit. As she looked out through the window, Camila caught a glimpse of the pink cheeks. Out of curiosity, she pulled at her hand and Victoria turned back sharply. “What?” “You are blushing Vickie!” Camila said seriously. “Ooh that?” she laughed lightly, making sure to keep her voice low. “The main characters just kissed...” “What? You're blushing over some story? Are you kidding me?” Camila laughed. “Yeah, the male character was actually my crush!” a little frown plastered on her face as she said that. “Are you serious? Falling for a fiction guy?” Camilla asked. “The book just makes the characters so perfect that you can't help falling for them...” she smiled a bit. “That’s weird girl!” Camila said and wanted to snatch the book and take a look when there was a sudden blackout. The whole building, including the city outside sank into total terrifying darkness. “Holy heaven!” Camila exclaimed with her hand mid-air. “What a bad day. The back up generator had a problem and the technical team said they will deal with it tomorrow!” Victoria said. “What are we going to do? There are plenty of people still in the library!” Camila was silent for a while. “I don't know. There is rarely a power blackout in this city!” There was commotion as people tried to get their bearing and find their way down the stairs and out of the library as many poured curses. Victoria reached out for her handbag. “Good God! Everyone, please calm down. I got a flashlight here with me!” she announced as she fished out the flashlight and shone ahead. “Ooh, thank God!” “You always carry that? There is rarely power blackouts...” Camila sighed. “Umm... You see, I stay at the far end of the city and I always have it in case of an emergency!” she said in a prideful voice though, then walked to shine down the stairs for others to go down first. As she came last, on the third floor, she lost a step, and someone almost lost in the darkness that engulfed the shelves reached out and grabbed her, steading her to her feet...
