For the first time in a long time, I wasn't preparing for survival. I was preparing for a future. The realization struck me as I stood overlooking the training grounds at sunrise. Warriors moved through drills below. Messengers crossed the settlement carrying reports. Builders worked on new structures near the eastern wall. Everywhere I looked, there was movement.
Growth.
Purpose.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
Because only a year ago, most of this hadn't existed.
Back then, we were scattered wolves trying to survive.
Now we were becoming something else.
Something larger.
Something permanent.
The kingdom didn't realize it yet.
Damon certainly didn't.
But the foundations were already there.
The thought should have satisfied me.
