Not Belong Here

1122 Words
Harper's POV I stay in my room, and the omegas bring me breakfast. I am used to staying put until I am summoned. I know Mason is a king, and he must be very busy. Maybe he thinks I need time to rest and adjust to my new surroundings. I have noticed that I was not invited to breakfast, and although I am wearing a dress fit for a queen, I know I am still just a human living among werewolves. I must be an embarrassment to him, and that is why he does not want the elders or the rest of his family to see me. "Luna, the healers are here. The king sent them to take a look at your wounds and scars," Elize says. "Okay, let them in," I say. "After they have seen you, we can go for a walk in the gardens, if you like. The king says you are allowed to go anywhere you like, but he does not want you to leave the territory. We have had rogues around these woods lately, and they are not friendly. They will tear anyone from the kingdom to shreds if they find us all by ourselves. It is safer to stay near the castle. The king also wants you to get ready for a journey with him. I will pack your bags," Elize rambles on. "Fine, whatever the king says," I say. What can I do? For now, I will have to be happy with what I am told to do, as always. I feel rebellious, and for once I feel like I do not want to do what others tell me to do. However, I know I am a useless human, and I cannot escape this new prison yet. At least I get food here, and I am not abused. The healers walk in, but their faces are emotionless, as if they are disgusted to work on a human with no wolf. I know that expression too well. The doctor in the Silverline Pack told me to go away when I asked him for help when I was badly injured. He told me his healing skills were for werewolves and not humans like me. He would not waste his time on me. I do heal, but very slowly, and I know it is because I have a wolf, but she is sealed away. I can feel her scratching at the invisible barrier again, as if she wants to protect me but cannot get out. Perhaps she is not fighting hard enough because she thinks I abandoned her, like I thought she abandoned me. Now that I know someone is trying to keep us apart and I cannot talk to her or assure her that I want her, I feel so helpless. I want to get to her, but the harder I try, the more it feels like the invisible barrier is getting stronger. The healers attend to my wounds and apply some medication for my scars, then they leave. None of them says a word. "You know you do not belong here," a female voice says behind me and Elize, who is helping me put my dress back on. "General Angelica Blackwell, you are not allowed to be here. The king told me you are not allowed near the Luna," Elize says. "I am the future queen of the Kingdom of the North. You know King Mason is going to marry me because I will be his chosen mate. He does not have to take this weak human as a mate. You have no right to speak to me in that manner, omega," Angelica says. "She has every right to talk to you in any way she likes, General. She is obeying the king's orders, or do you think because you told yourself you will be queen one day that you have more authority than the king?" I ask. "Who do you think you are, human? I can kill you with one blow," she growls. "Well, then you will have to explain yourself to the king, and you will most probably end up dead at the hands of the king. You better think before you act. You know your actions will have consequences," I say. "You are lucky, for now. The king will soon be tired of you. Once he realizes that you do not have a wolf, he will realize you are a liability to this kingdom, and he will kill you himself. I know he thinks you are hiding something inside you, but I do not feel anything, and my father is the head of the werewolf council and a duke. He has royal blood, and so do I. I am the better choice for a queen, as I am a strong general who has led the armies of this kingdom alongside the king to many victories. You are nothing but a human with no wolf. You do not belong here. If I were you, I would go away before the king gets sick of me and kills me," Angelica says. "It sounds like you are desperate to get rid of me. I do not care what you think of me or if you think I am strong enough for the king. It is not you who has to decide who belongs next to the king and be his queen. It is up to the king. Now, if you will please excuse me, I have to prepare for a journey. Next time you want to talk to me, General, please make an appointment. I am busy," I say. "You! How dare you! You are just a human! You are nothing! Your own pack did not even want you! You are a mistake!" Angelica loses her cold demeanor and freaks out like a lunatic. "What is going on here? Who is shouting? I can hardly hear myself thinking," Mason says from the door. Angelica's face goes pale as she realizes that Mason is standing there, looking at her like he is about to kill her. "I just wanted to welcome the Luna, King." "Get out! I told you not to come here," he growls. I have never seen Mason look like this. He is always emotionless and does not show anger easily, but when I look into his eyes, I know it is not Mason who is angry. It is his wolf, and he needs to get control of his wolf before it kills Angelica. I walk over to him and touch his arm. I can see Mason regain control. Angelica looks as if she saw her life flash before her own eyes, and I know she knows she almost died coming too close to me.
