Thy Darkness Within

EPISODE 2

The brothers arrived at their home with Jay giving John a perplexed look. “So let me get this straight, you… have been having the same nightmare for weeks now of…some animal chasing you then killing you?” “yeah” “ mhm dude I think you have been watching too much Tv” Jay spoke as he entered the kitchen to grab a bite.

John followed after him with a look that clearly said he was annoyed. “ I’m not kidding Jay , every time it gets more and more vivid…” “…..and you feel like it’s one day going to be true?” “Exactly!” “ Yep too much TV , apple?” Jay picking up another apple stretched it out to John who just had a ‘really’ look, taking that as a no “your loss.” He said as he bit into the apple.

John decided to just leave when he discovered a note on the counter. Reading it he discovered it had been left by their mother and, apparently, she was going to be out of town for a few weeks. He then passed the note to his brother, who was thrilled “ well this makes sneaking out a whole lot easier.” He began heading upstairs when he stopped and turned to look at his brother “ you know what , why don’t you come with me , with some booze, girls, more booze , trust me you will forget about this whole wolf thing huh so what do you say?” John thought about his brother’s offer but eventually denied, “nah “ “and you wonder why you don’t have a girlfriend.” “ I’ve got plans,” was all John said.

Jay raised a brow hearing his brother ‘s answers, but just as he was about to ask for more info, the doorbell was heard. John headed straight to go open the door and Jay decided to follow to see who exactly it was. The door was opened to reveal Caleb, who was in a checkered top, blue jeans and black Air force. Caleb went in to greet his best friend before noticing Jay “hey Jay.” Jay just nodded his head to acknowledge him and left to go upstairs.

The two watched until they were sure that Jay was gone. “ Did you bring the stuff?” John asked Caleb. Caleb opened his backpack to reveal a flashlight as well as some other stuff “here, but are you sure you want to do this because literally everyone says that place is haunted and you want us to go there cause you had a nightmare.” “vision” john spoke up, “whatever” “ If you don’t want to go you don’t have to,” “nah .Nah I’m coming what kind of friend would I be to just let you wander of into the woods on your own, the scary, haunted woods”

Later that night,

The two sat in the living room watching Netflix when Jay came down. “okay fellas, I’m going, this is your last chance if you want to come with” “nah we are good “ “Alright, I’m gone probably won’t be back tonight. See you tomorrow.” Jay said his goodbyes and left. Immediately he did, the boys grabbed their backpacks and went through the backdoors, running for the woods. In a few minutes they arrived before the woods.

As they arrived before the woods they both got a very creepy feeling that made all their hairs stand. “ You know maybe we should go back and watch some Netflix, eat some cookies, maybe even go to the party…” “stop being such a baby Caleb. I have to do this, I have this feeling that if I go in there I can finally put all of this behind me…. are you with me?” Caleb looked at him then looked at the woods before making a decision, “always man.” They turned on their flashlights and began to make their way through the woods unknown to them a raven was perched atop a branch watching them with its blood red eyes.

The journey through the woods was creepy to say the least, there was a thick fog that seemed to come from nowhere “so um…what exactly are we looking for in here anyway.” “The wolf”, at that, Caleb stopped and stared at John, “ excuse me, what your looking for is the big a*s wolf from your dreams okay, ignoring the fact it’s not real even it was the has been no sighting of wolves around here ever and even if it were here, from your descriptions alone I would never want to meet it and you should feel the same way.” John gave a smile “ever heard of confronting your fears.”

“Confronting ….. oh no, no, no, no, nuh uh that’s some bullshit therapists came up with to take money from their clients,” Caleb tried to convince his friend. John laughed at his friend and just as he was about to respond he looked up and realized there were loads of ravens surrounding them all staring with their red creepy eyes. “Are you seeing this?” John asked his friend, but when he got no response he looked around only to see that his friend was no longer by his side and he was alone surrounded by the ravens and thick fog, the whole scene felt familiar to him for some odd reason, then he saw them.

There stood a person, he couldn’t discern their gender, they were draped in a black cloak with their hood covering up their face leaving nothing visible. John did not know what, but something about the figure seemed of. “ Hello?” he called out to the person, who raised their heads and revealed their bright red lips, which revealed that they were in fact a she. He wanted to call out once more but then she smiled and it sent shivers down his spine, all the ravens began to caw at once and fly into the night forming a weird shape in the sky, it was at this moment that John finally realized why all this was familiar. This was the beginning of his nightmare.

“We have been waiting for you, John Ashwood.” The lady spoke in a creepy voice and the ravens cawed even louder as though they could sense his fear. John then heard the sounds which had been haunting for the past few weeks. His heart became rapid as though a drum. From behind the woman two massive red lights appeared. As they came closer, John realized that these were not lights, no these were eyes. By the woman stood the beast from his nightmares, John agreed with Caleb. At that instant, confronting one’s fears was a load of bull.
