Prologue
"Get back inside Ana." Her whole body stiffened. She didn't need to turn to know that its Logan. That cold commanding voice that leaves no room for argument-she would recognise it anywhere.
She was caught off guard. She thought Logan would be too busy in his study to see her here. Tears were still streaming down her delicate cheeks and she was sniffing, trying to hide them.
Logan's eyes fell on her face and his jaw tightened.
"You are crying again. I told you not to cry, didn't I?
...........
"Should I give you a good reason to cry Ana?" His voice was getting lower, harsh impatient.
He stepped closer, looking at her shivering in a light thin dress. She wiped her tears with her head low, too scared to answer him. His heart clenched
"Look at you. Shaking and wearing a thin dress, barefoot, In winter. You are pregnant Ana. Do you want to get sick? You want to lose him?"
His eyes dropping to her flat tummy. He crouched down in front of her, looked into her frightened eyes, and put his large, warm hand flat over her tummy. Her skin was so cold to touch. His palm was so wide it covered her entire belly
"I'm sorry! I didn't..." She wanted to explain herself because only her knows what she's been through all this time.
He cut in, "Hurry up and walk back inside. Now. Before I really lose my temper and lock you in that room again".
"Get up. You're going inside."
Ana pressed her palms on the cold concrete and tried to lift herself, but she'd been sitting too long in that position. Her bare feet had gone numb and her legs were shaking.
The moment she was fully standing, her ankle twisted on the edge of the step. She lost her balance completely.
She didn't even get a scream out.
Logan was there before gravity could take her. He lunged and caught her around the waist, yanking her back so hard her face hit his chest. She clung to his shirt, breathing fast.
He didn't let go. One arm stayed locked around her while his other hand, large, warm, and possessive went straight to her tummy, covering it completely through the thin fabric like he needed to make sure what was inside was still safe.
And then it hit him. If he had been a second late, she would have fallen forward down the stone steps. Right on her stomach.
His whole body went rigid. When she looked up at him, his eyes weren't the usual cold grey anymore. They were black, furious.
"You almost fell," he said, his voice low and shaking with anger, his hand pressing a little tighter over her stomach. "If I wasn't standing here, You would have killed it."
He didn't wait for her to answer. He kept his hand on her belly and started pulling her towards the door.
"Inside. Don't you ever sit out here like that again."
