It's been over 100 years since the Earth began to cool. Trapping modern day society in the coldest ice age ever recorded. Thousands lost their lives, unable to adapt to the freezing temperatures. In an attempt to escape the cold, humans and animals alike, made their way underground. These subterranean societies soon began to thrive.

Kaia Lane was a scout for one of these subterranean societies. Someone who goes to the surface to scout for needed resources and above all else a chance that maybe the ground was starting to thaw. Lane was highly regarded in her field, having become one at just 16 years old. Then one day, her and her team were hit by a sudden blizzard, causing a break in the team. In the blinding snow and ice, Kaia was separated from the rest of her team. Once the storm had passed, Lane was gone. Many grieved her lost. Now, 5 years after the lost of Kaia Lane, someone with the same name is brought down from the surface. She is half-frozen and only seems to remember her name. Could she truly be the same.

How it Began/Prologue
How it Began It's been over a hundred years since the Earth began to cool. Trapping modern society in the coldest Ice Age ever recorded. Thousands lost their lives, unable to adapt to the freezing temperatures. In an attempt to escape the cold, humans and animals alike, made their way underground. These underground societies soon began to thrive. The survival of everyone in these societies was due to a new rule: Everyone has a role; and none of these roles were more important than that of a Guardian. Guardians were the only ones allowed on the surface. These people were responsible for food and resources that could be brought back and used by the people, to lookout in case of attack, and most importantly, for when the Earth would begin to Thaw. Prologue The frozen wind blew, making the already thick snow and ice swirl. There was nothing but white all around me. I wrapped my arms around myself, desperate to contain any body heat I had left. My fur parka had long soaked through, chilling my bones and my feet had numbed several miles ago as I trudged through the knee-high snow. I couldn’t remember how I got here or even where I had been. I couldn’t stop it, as my tired legs finally gave out. I dropped, the snow seemed to welcome me, as it no doubt had welcomed so many others, lost and cold. I let out a shaky breath, the droplets swirled in the frozen air. I tried to make my body move, but it refused. I knew it wouldn’t be long before the darkness took me. Suddenly, two dark figures seemed to manifest out of the wind. I tried to speak, to ask for help, but no sound would come out. The figures faded as the darkness consumed me.
