Chapter 1: The Boarding
“Prepare to be boarded” The booming voice rang throughout the cabin. Hazel’s eyes darted around to her fellow crew members around her. Her head spinning with anxiety, the “sick to your stomach” feeling over took her. They had been caught, they all knew this was a risky mission. The First Order was not easy to fool, but the Rebellion had some hope. Maybe, a little too much. Well, that was completely squashed in a matter of seconds by the First Order. As most things usually were. A silence fell over the cabin, Hazel quickly grabbed Plum’s hand. Their eyes shut as the doors swiftly opened. They felt a rush of cold air come over them as they slowly opened their eyes. Hazel could make out a silhouette of a tall figure. As her eyes adjusted to the light, she could see his features more clearly. He was very tall, he towered over the other Officers around him. She could see his Lieutenant status broadcast on his uniform. He looked around the cabin, silence hung in the air. He wanted to make sure he had the whole cabins attention before he spoke. “Any attempt to escape, would be a foolish one.” He commanded. “Prepare to be restrained and interrogated.” He looked to Officer next to him and gave a slight nod. Suddenly, the stern stillness turned into utter chaos. The other Officers entered the cabin, restraining each and every Rebel on that ship. Even in the midst of the chaos and fear, Hazel couldn’t help but clock how powerful he was. The command he held captivated her, she just couldn’t take her eyes off of him. Her gaze was quickly ruined by Officer Perri tearing her and Plum’s hand away from each other. “How endearing.” He said in a mocking tone. “You think you can protect each other? Well, not for long.” Officer Turion added in, as he ripped their hands apart. They bound their hands, Plum was yanked up by her wrists. “Let’s go.” Officer Turion said. Officer Perri yanked Hazel up by her shirt collar, tearing it a bit, she gasped at the ripping sound. When he came back into Hazel’s sightline, the captivation she had for the Lieutenant had turned into utter terror. The Officers escorted all the Rebels out of the ship, each one of them having to pass an unofficial inspection by the Lieutenant. Most of them just passed him quickly, but he stopped some along the way. As Hazel got closer she was able to register the Lieutenants features better. His height was easy to notice, he had a few inches on each and every one of them. Probably about six foot three or four. Hazel’s father was a very tall man, so she was always good at gauging height. His green eyes were so unique to anything she had seen before. They were hazel on the outside and grew greener closer to the middle. Somehow, in the cold bright lighting, Hazel could see little glints of gold in there too. Striking to say the least, captivating to many, she was sure. His hair was a copper red, darker than your stereotypical red head. But she could see the little bits of fiery red on the ends. Amongst all his features, he was meant to stand out, naturally. She could see he probably always used his appearance to his advantage. Hazel avoided eye contact but could feel his striking green eyes following her, admis the sea of chaos. The Lieutenant stopped Hazel and Officer Perri. He looked her up and down slowly. His eyes settled on the rip in her shirt. “Showing up looking like a mess.” The Lieutenant scoffed. He grabbed one edge of the rip and twirled it through his fingers. His touch sent chills through Hazel’s body. Something she had never felt from anyone else. “Fitting for Rebel scum. Move along.” The Lieutenant said, dismissing her. He nodded, Officer Perri pushed her away. He grabbed her tighter and pulled her along. The Lieutenant’s eyes followed her until they were out of sight. They started walking down a long narrow hallway. “You’re a tiny thing, aren’t you?” Officer Perri said as he slithered closer to her ear. He wasn’t wrong in his observation. Hazel was five two, she had been tiny her whole life. She had two long brown braids that ran from her hairline all the way down to her waist. Because of her size, her long hair looked even longer. Hazel yanked her head away, the officer’s comment made her skin crawl. “Good luck putting up a fight.” He said running his hand down her back, then pinching her ass. His eyebrows raised “Well, there’s something that’s not tiny about you.” He said in a low grumble and with a sickening smirk. It wasn’t a fight she was ready to put up, necessarily, but she’d do anything to get out of there alive. She was fighting herself, the cause, her entire belief system, and for her sweet friend, Plum. All of those thoughts swirled around in her head as they entered a room that the long narrow hallway led to. Storm Troopers were in every corner and exit. If someone was making a run for it, it certainly wouldn’t be a long one. The officers lined them up, single file, against the wall. Hazel was reunited with Plum, she could see the tears streaming down Plum’s face. She knew an emotional display, like this, wouldn’t give Plum a fighting chance. “Don’t say we never did anything for you. We thought it would be amusing to reunite the friends, one last time.” Officer Turion said. Hazel was shoved against the wall, her head hit hard. It made a small cut at the top of her forehead. She could see Plum getting even more upset, watching her get injured. “Hey, I’m fine.” Hazel whispered. “I’ve been banged up far beyond this little cut. It’s not surprising to see a First Order Officer be such a pansy when it comes to punishment.” Hazel said in an effort to cheer up Plum. Plum’s tears stopped and she gave Hazel a soft smile. Hazel would do anything to stop a dangerous emotional outburst, and just to make her best friend smile. Officer Perri turned around slowly. “What was that…scum?” Hazel rolled her eyes, a response very unpleasing to Perri. He raised his hand to slap her, but it was halted by the Lieutenant’s grip. “Save your energy for the actual interrogation, Officer Perri. I have a feeling you’ll need it.” He said, looking Hazel up and down. She could feel the power he had over her, in more ways than one. “Alright, which one of you has some assimilation of power here? And I use ‘power’ lightly.” The Lieutenant asked while pacing the room, passing each Resistance member. The room was silent. “So, we’re all suddenly speechless when it comes to questions?” The Lieutenant said doing another lap giving the chance for someone to start talking. He gave a long drawn out sigh as he looked around. “Well, I didn’t want to have to do this. Officers, it’s going to be a long night. Looks like we’ll be interrogating one by one. Good luck staying silent now.” The Lieutenant said looking at all the officers. Hazel could hear footsteps on the metal catwalks above. Kylo Ren was watching, putting his best Lieutenant on the job to break them all. Everyone looked up at the sound of the footsteps. “If you choose not to answer us, he’ll be taking care of you himself” The Lieutenant said moving his gaze up to Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren nodded, as if to give the permission to start the interrogations. The Lieutenant moved his gaze back down. “Good luck.” He said with a smirk. Kylo Ren disappeared into the darkness, leaving the Lieutenant in charge. Officers started grabbing the hostages in a sea of chaos. Disappearing into the chambers, some filled with two, three, even four at a time. Hazel had some hope, maybe her and Plum could stick together. Hazel knew Plum couldn’t do it alone. The officers grabbed the two, pulling them in opposite directions of each other. It hit Hazel, this might be the last time she sees her best friend. She broke down, struggling with the Officer. She was able to get her elbow right to his nose. He let go of her to grab his face in pain. Hazel ran toward Plum, but came to a sudden and hard fall. Someone had tripped her. When her head stopped spinning, she looked up to see the Lieutenant was the culprit in her fall. Her head smacking against the cold tile made all of the chaos come to a hault. Everyone’s attention was back on the Lieutenant and Hazel. He pulled her up, after grabbing both braids in one hand, he yanked her toward him swiftly. “Let this be a cautionary tale to you all. You’re coming with me.” The Lieutenant said, pulling her closer to his face. Everyone’s eyes followed them as he opened up an empty chamber. He shoved her inside and looked back at his Officers. “I’ll be back, carry on.”
