Bruce

I glared at him as he continued to stare at me with that outfaced look. He let out a smirk, then he finally decided to say something. “Your feisty attitude told me you will storm down here after hearing the news,” he crossed his arms across his chest. “And I was right.” “You are such a f*cking prick. How could you do this?” “Mind your language young lady, you are in my office,” My eyebrows rose in question. He adjusted his suit jacket, then stood up. “In my office, only I do the cursing.” “You are an heartless b*stard. You have to do something about that rent.” He let out a small chuckle, then took a few steps towards me. “Watch your tongue. Like I said, this is my office, and I call the shots,” his eyes were fixed on me, and he took his time to study everything I was feeling. “You should have thought twice before ignoring my message,” he continued with a cold stare on his face. My jaws clenched, and my fists rolled up. “No one refuses me.” he ended. “You are a monster. And I… I will-” he let out a scoff, then wet his lower lip with his tongue. “You will? What can you do?” “You will see.” I stomped my feet, letting out part of the rage in me. I took a few steps back, then wanted to leave, but he grabbed my hand. He pulled me closer to him. His breaths hit my face. He still had that cold expression on his face. “I will like you to do your worst.” He increased his grip, then loosened it. He let go of my hand, then gestured for me to take my leave. Tears began to build up in my eyes. I was hopeless. This meeting brought a dead end to all my dreams and future. Where would I start from? I sucked back the tears, then stormed out of the office. I ran down to the street, tears flowing down my cheeks. I regulated my breath, then began to walk down towards the park. The park has always been a place I have been going to since when I was little. There was a spot I discovered at the back, where no one knew about it. It was always peaceful, and beautiful insects filled the area. It had been my spot to clear my head and cry in peace. I never thought I would visit that spot ever again since my mother divorced. Things started to go great for me after the divorce, I had no reason to go back there. I stopped a few steps away from the spot. Old memories flooded my head. I could not hold back the tears, they came pouring down. The sky was getting grey. The winds began to pick up, and the air was getting cool. The overcast was setting in. But that did not bother me. I cushioned myself on the grass, then supported my head with my knees. Several minutes had passed, my body was trembling from all the crying. I let out a sigh, then buried my head between my knees. I heard someone sit beside me. I shivered in fear, then turned my head to the direction. No one knew about this spot. So I thought. I gazed at the figure sitting beside me with my eyes widened. It did not move. It continued to stare at the fields where the insects danced around. I drifted myself away, then continued to stare. It was a man. The silence was eating me up. “I never thought I would see you again,” he finally said. He turned over to me, then plastered a smile on his lips. I stared hard at him, trying to figure out who he was. His hazel green eyes ignited a motion in my mind. They were orb round and darted constantly, a-gleam with delight and the vigour of youth. They were soft, and swam with joy. Then it hit me. “Bruce?” His smile grew wider. He had changed so much. His crescent-of-moon eyebrows were thin and narrow. He carried an imperious nose well and his angular cheekbones carved down towards a flinty jaw. “You remember me?” he asked with so much joy. “Where have you been?” My eyes glowed up. Bruce was my classmate in second grade. He also happened to live beside my house at that time. He was my only friend considering that we were so much alike in every aspect. We discovered this spot. Few years later, when we were about to go into highschool, he moved out, and I never saw him till today. “I am back now.” The rain started to pour down heavily hitting our skins. Bruce and I did not seem to care. We had a lot of catching up to do. Hours passed by, and the rain started to drizzle. Old memories were revived. “How about I drop you off?” “You have a car?” His laughter was like music to my ears. “How do you think I would drop you off?” He stretched his hand, then pulled me up. He led me to his car, then dropped me off at my house. I waved him goodbye as he drove off. I turned around, then gasped in shock. Men in suits were lined up outside the building with umbrellas over their heads. I sighted Alyssa, who was exchanging words with one of the men. I ran over, then dropped my bag on the floor. “What is going on here?” “Amelia, they are trying to kick us out.” My eyes lurked around trying to look for that monster in human flesh. A man walked over to me, then shoved some papers in my face. “The boss has asked for your evacuation.” “What? But it’s too sudden. He gave-” “He changed his mind.” The man cut in. I looked over to Alyssa who was still clashing words with one of the men. “He can’t do this. This is against the law.” “I am the law,” A voice said behind me. I turned around sharply, then dashed over to him. He removed his shades, then placed them in his pockets. He grabbed my hand, then pulled me closer to him. “You stupid prick.” I said through my clenched jaws. “You still don’t know how to use this tongue of yours. How about I teach you.”
