“Courtney,” I exasperatedly called, “are you avoiding me?” She scrunched her nose and looked away, her eyes clearly saying that she really was avoiding me. “No,” she lied, because her voice trembled and was high-pitched. “Why would I avoid you?” I heaved a sigh. When morning came, I went near her to talk to her about any random stuff but she scurried past me like I was the plague. That stung, most especially it was coming from her.
