Chapter 2 - Forgotten

2621 Words
There were sounds, faint to her ears. Beeping, voices, movement. She had no idea what was going on and why she could not hear things very clearly. It was like the volume in her ears had been turned down. She felt heavy, weak and tired, in her mind, she wanted to open her eyes, to find out where she was, and what was happening around her. None of what she could hear made any sense to her, not even the voices she could hear and the words spoken. “It has been two weeks.” “They have said there are signs she is waking.” “Is she even a wolf? She should have healed by now.” “I can not sense a presence in her. She may be full human.” Wolf? That sounded off. Why would she be an animal, yes she was human, or so… she thought she was. In her mind, she frowned to herself. She was confused and felt scared a little. What was going on, why were people talking about her in such ways? Were they talking about her? She was not sure, maybe it was just a dream. She wanted to wake up, she wanted to figure out what she was doing. “Koby… I swear I just saw…” The voices faded away. No… She needed to hear them, she needed to kept them in my head, just so she can be sure things around her were real. Those voices told her things were real, even if she was a bit scared it was a dream. She needed the voices to come back. She felt panicked, and she wanted so badly to see who had been speaking, to see the world and figure out what was going on. “Sweety… can you hear me?” “Shall I inform Him?” “No. Give her some time.” “He wants to know.” “Well, he can bloody wait. I do not care if you have orders from him, he can wait.” “He is not going to like this.” “He can get over it.” She was trying to catch every word they spoke, trying to move closer to it. She felt something, something on what was most likely her hand. It was warm, it was gentle and then that sweet female voice, the voice that called her ‘sweety’, spoke again, much clearer this time in her ears. “That is good, try not to push yourself Sweety.” It was as if they knew, as if they could tell. She hardly even felt awake and yet she felt so worn out, so tired. The sounds around me, the voices, the touches, they all started to fade away again. She was losing the fight, she was slipping, darkness engulfed her mind once more. *** A soft touch alerted her, something brushing against her forehead, playing with her hair. She heard it again, the beeping. She did not hear the voices though, it was as if everything else from before was silenced to her. In her mind, she tried to think, to try and figure it out, but she felt lost to everything. She had tried last time to open her eyes but she failed. She did not want to fail this time. She needed to know, what was going on. She tried to tell her mind to do it, to open. She felt, second by second her mind was cooperating with her. The first proof was when everything in her mind lit up, assaulted by sudden brightness. She had to force her eyes closed, she had to do this with ease. “She is trying again…” “Shhh… let her take time.” She heard them, voices again. She knew well one voice, it was that same female voice from last time. It was soft, gentle, like a flower and she felt like she could trust it, like it was helping and guiding her to where she needed to be. The feeling of something playing with her hair continued, it made her fell… she was not sure, it was a feeling she was not even used to. Attempting it again, she felt that brightness in her mind, assaulting her vision once again, but she was able to withstand it better this time. Strangely though, while trying to open them, her eyes felt like they were stinging from the brightness. She closed them again, not sure if she could do it. The female voice was speaking in a low voice, encouraging her to keep trying. She listened, like she had no choice to, following orders given to her. She tried again, the brightness not too bad this time, and shapes even starting to become visible. It took some time, it took a few attempts, but eventually, she finally was able to keep her eyes open long enough to focus on what was directly in front of her. A face, which almost surprised her. A face of a female, looking down at her, a gentle calming smile on their lips. “Welcome back Sweety.” The female spoke. Though it was still heavy and her mind was still dazed, she blinked for a moment and then slowly turned her head, because she knew and she sensed that there were more people near by, keeping silent for the moment. Looking, she was not wrong. Aside from the female that was closest to her, she could see faces of four other people. One looked to be in a doctors gown. Another was of a strict looking male, arms crossed and looking at her like she was some devil. Another was a younger male, looking curious, and excited, also with a small smile. The fourth was a third male, who seemed to just be standing in the background, not really fussed with what was going on. She turned her head back, feeling lightness there, feeling a little sick, like the room was spinning. She closed her eyes against the pounding there, taking a moment. Feeling better, she opened her eyes yet again, the female face still there, watching her closely, smiling still, yet the male in the doctors coat came closer this time, placing fingers against her wrist. “How do you feel?” a calm voice spoke from his lips. He seemed forbidding and yet gentle, thoughtful and She knew she would not dare try and cross his path. He had dark brown eyes, dark hair that was short and neat. With olive skin and seemingly tall, he seemed quiet intimidating. Her silence must not have played well for him, because he paused, looking at her, making her feel like she wanted to shrink back into the mattress under her. He asked again, how she felt. She did not know what to say really, how to answer or explained. Mostly, she still felt very heavy, very confused. She opened her mouth, to try and reply, knowing he was waiting. Two things happened. No words came out, and pain shot through her jaw and her throat. He noticed, letting out a sigh and shaking his head as she closed her eyes briefly against the feeling that came over her. “It will seem your throat has not yet recovered.” The male spoke. “So, she can’t tell us anything?” the strict looking male spoke, his voice matching his look. “This is not going to go down well with Him, you know that right?” “Adam, give it a rest!” the younger male stated , then stepped closer to the bed. “Don’t worry kiddo, he is just a sour head doing his job. I on the other hand, am very pleased to see you better. I was worried you would not make it.” She was very confused, by all of this. It made not a single sense to her. She studied this male, tall, long dark hair, dark brown eyes but yet had a bit of a teasing look, a grin on his lips. She shifted her view to the female. Same olive skin, same dark brown eyes and long dark hair. It did not take a genius to work it out, that these three, were related in some way. But who were they? That was what confused her, she did not even know them. *** The male in the doctors coat had been right, she was still very warn down and needed rest, after the short wake up, she felt the need to sleep again and while a small bicker happened between the young male and the one called Adam, she had looked away, to see what was happening around the room. The beeping, that was from a monitor, she studied it for a moment and then looked for. She had spotted the drip bags, following the tubes long, running in under the blanket that was over her. She was in a hospital. But where? And why? She could not work it out. In her thoughts, she had started drifting away again, the bickering faded and she slept. When she woke again, the room was less crowded, there was a soft muttering, but with a slow movement of the head, she could see that it was a television. In a chair, sat the female from before. She had an arm bent on the chairs own arm, and the side of her face rested against a closed fist, her eyes closed as well. Against the wall, that strict looking male was still standing there, arms crossed and his eyes watching her, like she knew she was awake again and looking around. He did not look very pleased, and he had a snarling look on his face, it made her shrink back, into the mattress again. “Shay-Lee.” His harsh voice spoke. The female on the chair awake instantly, looking at him and then looked straight to the bed, a small smile crossing her face. Shay-Lee… it was a very pretty name. She watched as the older woman got up from the chair and came over to the bed, sitting down on the side. “Here.” she said softly, placing something on the blanket. “This might be useful for now.” She looked down, wondering what it was, what could be useful? Her eyes caught it, an electronic device. She was confused, she went to ask what, but her face changed to pain once again. It still hurt. Shay-Lee let out a sigh, a small smile, and the bed started to lift slight, so now there was an incline. She was sitting slightly now, and yet, now she was in a new angle, and seeing more of the room, she could see that somebody else was there, on a couch, watching the TV and not saying anything. He had been in the room the other time she had awoken as well and had been just as disinterested as he seemed now. Shay-Lee handed her to electrical device again, into her hand this time though. “Here Sweety. Use this to communicate ok. Koby wants you to not even try and talk yet. He is worried it could cause further damage to your throat, if you try.” Shay-Lee said. Taking the device, she understood. She was expected to use it, to communicate with them. It was very basic, a tablet and the only app available was a note pad. She opened it, and looked at the blank page for a moment and then decided to type by the touch screens keyboard. You are siblings. “Everyone sees that right away.” Shay-Lee said with a small laugh. “Sweety… do you feel pain anywhere?” I feel… heavy… weak…. My throat. “Yeah, that is no surprise. Your Hyoid was broken and your Larynx was in a nasty way. It may take some time.” Shay-Lee explained. How did I get here? “Zakari bought you here.” Shay-Lee said with a small smile. Why? “What do you mean why? You were in a bloody bad way, what do you expect.” She replied frowning. No, I mean. Why… was I… needing here? “Do you remember?” Shay-Lee wondered. “Sweety, you were in such a horrible state, Zakari saved you, he would have stayed and killed that person attacking you if it did not mean you would have died there in the park. They fought them off, and got you here.” She was stunned. What happened? Did Shay-Lee just tell her she had been attacked? A shiver ran down her spine. She was confused, she was scared and she did not know what to think. No. She did not remember it. She did not realise, clearly she had been in the hospital for a reason, but she had not known why, and now, she was being told, she was attacked. Why was she attacked? It frightened her and she could feel a hot sting in her eyes. “Sweety, it will be ok. We will not let harm come to you here.” Shay-Lee soothed. “We tried to find them, but we lost scent. I am sorry Sweety.” Scent? “I will explain that another time… it may seem.” Shay-Lee told her. “First, can you tell me, tell us… I am sure you have worried family looking for you, we’d like to let them know you are here, can you tell us your name… and where you… live?” She looked down at the tablet, at the note pad screen. She was about to type and yet, her fingers froze over the keys. She frowned, she thought, but, it made no sense. She closed her eyes, trying to think. What was her name? She felt something against her hand, she opened her eyes, noting that Shay-Lee had reached out to place her own upon it. She looked up at the older female’s face, scared now. She shook her head, feeling pain as she did, but shifted her eyes away from the surprised look upon Shay-Lee’s face. “You don’t remember?” Shay-Lee asked shocked, a little disappointed even. “Convenient.” Adam finally spoke, harshly from his wall, in a mocking way. “Shut up Adam!” Shay-Lee snapped, a little growl emitting from her lips. “Go get Koby, and then… let him know… ok. Let him know now.” Shay-Lee looked back, a sad look in her eyes. She let out a sigh and shook her head, playing with the strands of hair. It was like, she was thinking. “Ok, well… if you can not remember. Then… I will call you… Winter.” She said with a cheerful smile. “Winter, because that is the season. Winter because, you are as pale as snow and intriguing like a snow flake.” She watched for a moment. Winter… It did not sound too bad, It seemed ok. With a nod, she accepted it. This seemed to please Shay-Lee, Adam huffed and turned, walking out of the room. The guy on the couch still had not moved, did not even look around at them, like he did not care for a single thing what was going in. Winter had no idea why he was there, and the fact that Adam treated her like some criminal, she wondered… was she being watched?
