Chapter 1 - Emergency

He looked up, watching as Koby exited the room, taking off his gloves, looking warn down and ready to rest. Lachlan was leaning against the wall opposite the room, arms crossed over his chest, his button up shirt pulled tight against his skin. He had expressionless eyes as he watched and waited, tight lips and did not even blink once. Koby looked up at him, their eyes meeting and the younger of the two let out a small sigh. He had been trying to save a life, for over five hours in an emergency operation and then proceeded to spend another hour in the room he had just come out of. Lachlan watched as Koby’s eyes drifted over to the seats, shaking his head at the sight there. Zakari and his two friends Tilly and Jaden were sitting, in uncomfortable positions, pretty much warn out and fallen asleep. Lachlan could not blame either of them, it looked like they had been in a fierce battle, which he was sure they had been considering. They were not too injured and had already received medical treatment, but they all knew those three would heal very quickly. It was the other person whom none of them had an idea about, maybe Koby did and that was why Lachlan was waiting. “Who are they? Why were they on our territory?” Lachlan asked Koby. “You are more worried about why they were here and not how they are doing?” Koby asked back. “You are so cold Lukuaz.” “Are they a threat to our people?” Lachlan asked in a more demanding tone. “Right now… hardly so.” Koby said shaking his head and letting out a sigh again. “Koby!” Zakari’s voice gasped, opening his eyes and straightening. “What happened? Do you…? Are they….?” “You got them here… just in time Little Brother.” Koby said with a nod. “I am glad…” he said, thoughtfully. Rolling his eyes, Lachlan still did not have his answers. He needed to know, to know if he needed to warn his people, to let them know if there was a threat. Could they trust what Zakari saw, could they believe it was as it was and not a trick, to weaken them. He was on edge and he did not trust anything. Zakari on the other hand, seemed more worried out the condition of them, the person he had bought to the hospital. “I want it known. Who they are, why they are on our territory.” Lachlan started in a controlled tone. “Find out and do not waste any time.” “Where are you going Lachlan?” Koby asked. “It is early morning. I need to get ready for work.” Lachlan explained. “You have not slept all night. You can call in sick you know, a boss can take a day off if need.” Koby told him. “I care not to take time off work. Unlike others, I do not just run into fights, I do not just ignore our Alpha’s requests in terminating anyone who steps into our territory uninvited. So, I have responsibilities and I will follow through with them.” Lachlan claimed. “You are such a hard ass Lachlan.” Zakari whined. “And you are an i***t who did not kill like you were meant to!” Lachlan snapped, a low growl to his tone. “Alpha will not be happy.” “I hardly care about that right now.” Zakari stated, lightly. “Our orders may have been to kill, but you did not see it, you were not there. You have no idea what happened.” “And I care not to know.” Lachlan stated, turning to Koby. “I suspect you said you are not sure of a threat because they are not in a conscious state. The moment they wake up, the moment anything changes. You deal with them, either end them or send them away.” Lachlan gave Koby a hard stare, using a tone that they all knew, a tone that told them he was making the decision and they were not allowed to argue about it. Lachlan may not be the Alpha, but he was the next in line, he was the oldest of his siblings and they all knew it was all going to happen very soon. He was already in a position that he took charge on things when needed and so he was taking charge on this as well. He was not thrilled that Koby even tried to save their life, Lachlan had been against it, the moment he found out that Zackari had not ended them himself. He did not care to know what had happened, what was seen. All he cared was that the person in that room behind the door was not of their Clan and that meant they were not welcome there at all. They needed to go, one way or another. Talking down the hall, hands in his pants pockets, Lachlan saw the auto doors open for him and he passed through, stepping out into the cool morning air. The sun was not up yet, but he knew it was close. There was a light drizzle of rain in the air and taking a deep breath in, he stood a moment to appreciate it, until he heard the buzzing of his phone. “Hello?” he spoke into the phone. “Boss. Their scent is gone.” Came the voice of Adam, one of the Clan’s best hunters. “We traced it well to the South, past the boarders. Dead stop at the Southern Harbour.” “This is NOT acceptable! I want to know who they were!” Lachlan hissed, a growl emitting from his lips. “Maybe it is a good thing the other is here… I want you to stay on Guard with them Adam, the moment they wake, you question them. You make sure you find out who they are and where they come from and why they are here. With what ever means possible.” “You got it Boss. I will head to the Hospital now and stand Guard.” Adam agreed. Lachlan hung up, glad, but knowing Adam had no choice in the matter either way. While he was not yet the official Alpha, he still had authority and people still listened to him. He did not like the idea of them loosing scent. The fact that the other person had been quick enough to get to the Southern Harbour, while being tracked and traced, was concerning and this was why Lachlan was now on edge. He did not like the idea of uninvited guest coming to their territory, for you never knew their plans, what they were going to do. The High Moon Clan was a very old group and had a lot of Territory. They knew there were other clans around, some of the East and some to the West. To the South, they did not know how many were out there, but they knew there was some were, same with the North. While Lachlan knew right away people would say these intruders came from the South, Lachlan had to think further. All they knew was the scent was lost near South Harbour. The wolf could have been from anywhere, using the water to mask their scent to head in a different direction. He had a duty to his people, to the Clan. They were wolves, smart and wise, strong and fighters and they were very territorial. He needed to make sure they were all protected and so having two uninvited wolves come to their territory was no acceptable and he was going to have to clean up the mess this was creating. He had been furious with Koby, demanding that he not go into that operating room to help. Yet, like always, Koby never listened, and did his own thing. That was the issue sometimes with Koby and Zakari, even Shay-Lee. While Lachlan was the next Alpha to be, due to their blood connection, his orders on them did not always stick. He did not like to use his Alpha status on them, and they knew it, and they did use that against him sometimes. Letting out a sigh as he walked on Lachlan knew he was going to have to get tougher on them. While now it was not too bad, he knew, when he was Officially made Alpha, he would need to make sure they did listen to him, did take his words seriously. They may be his younger siblings, but they also needed to respect that he had a whole Clan to think about and consider. Lachlan, you are to come and see me during lunch. No excuses. A voice spoke in his mind. Yes Alpha…. Mother.
