Chapter 1: The Bullies
The school's cafeteria is filled with students who rushes over to the food counter. the staffs are busy attending to the crowd as they serve everyone.
At the far end of the cafeteria, Lily sits alone as she munch on her sandwich. she paid no mind to the chaos and noise happening around her. she was already used to the loud noise.
she looked at students walking in groups to their various seat with their tray of food but she was alone. she had never had a friend ever since she gained admission because she was from a poor background.
Her father died on her first birthday, leaving the family in despair. her mother, Mrs Elizabeth smith, a widow, took to gambling and drinking. she would stay out so late and return home when the bar chase her out.
Her elder brother was also the same, after failing to pass his final exams,he couldn't graduate and hence had to drop out and started causing trouble around instead of looking for a manual job or skill that could help the family.
Apart from her failing family, they also had a lot of debt to pay as her mom and brother always borrow money with lies of helping a family member or something else meanwhile they use the money to gamble and get drunk.
As Lily was still lost in her thought, she didn't notice when someone approached her. she only realized when she felt something being poured on her. she quickly stood up only for the person to push her to the floor.
"Ah...",her cry drew the attention of other students who were busy with their lunch. she looked up and saw the face of the person and it was person she really wanted to avoid. Pinky and her two friends, Jennie and Sophia.
Pinky was from a wealthy family. her father owned a thriving tech company while her mother was an influencer. she was the only child and her parents spoiled her for that. she has been hell bent on making lily's life miserable without any reason. she bullies Lily almost every day and picks on the little things she does.
The same could be said for her friends as they also came from wealthy families.
"look at what we have here, the poor dirty pig", pinky said with mockery in her voice as she and her friends at the statement.
"I wonder how such a prestigious university could admit such a scum like her", Sophia said. Jennie added her statement,"maybe she slept her in", making them and the other students burst out in laughter.
"I didn't sleep my way in, I worked hard to be admitted and not throw money to gamble my way through", Lily defended her self as she stood up from the ground.
"gamble, isn't that what your family do for a living?", Jennie mocked making the crowd erupt into another laugh. Lily felt tears in her eyes but she refused to let it out.
"stop mentioning my family or else...",she threatened but pinky walks towards her,"or else what?,I mean why are you ashamed of your family?,is it because they are poor or totally useless", pinky teased.
Lily gave pinky death glares but she ignored them. "you trash, don't look at me", pinky yelled as her palm lands on lily's face.
The crowd gasped as they witnessed the whole drama but refused to step in. Lily touched her face and felt the warm area which stings. she then realized pinky slapped her.
"that's what you get for looking at me with those ugly eyes of yours", pinky yelled as she push lily to the ground. "that is a warning", and with that pinky and her gang left leaving lily to herself.
The crowd also returned to their various tasks as the drama was already over. Lily felt like crying but she held it in as she stood up, picked her bag and walked out of the cafeteria.
Tears already dripping from her eyes as she made her way towards the wash room.
