Chapter Twenty-Four
Philip Carol sat at their usual table in the back corner of the restaurant and waited for David Callinan to arrive for their weekly lunch engagement. He perused the menu and decided he’d order the steak.
‘Hello, Phil,’ said David, pulling out a chair and sitting down. ‘Sorry I’m late.’
‘I’ve decided on the steak,’ said Philip. ‘Fancy a shiraz?’
David ran his finger down the wine list. ‘This one from the Hunter is a good drop. Let’s have that.’
When the waiter had taken their order, they got down to business.
‘Joe’s been arrested,’ said Philip. ‘They’re charging him with being an accessory to Doug’s murder.’
‘On what grounds?’
‘Bloodstained fingerprints inside Doug’s car.’
‘That was a bit careless of him.’
‘It gets worse. He dumped the clothes he was wearing in
