Chapter 6 No Where Quiet

1326 Words
Sami’s gathering her books between classes when Ace passes by — doesn’t even stop — just drops a folded note in her locker vent.
She smirks when she opens it.
“Behind the art room. Lunch. Unless you’re scared.”
She rolls her eyes.
Still shows up.
But the second they sit down on the crumbling steps behind the art wing—
“Sami!”
Her friend Bianca’s voice rings out like a warning siren. She rounds the corner, wide-eyed.
“You said you were going to help with the float committee today! Mr. Lang is already asking where you are!”
Sami glares at her. “I said I might help. Big difference.”
Bianca glances at Ace. Then back at Sami. And raises an eyebrow that says we’ll talk about this later.
Sami sighs and stands up.
Ace doesn’t even get a full sentence out before she’s pulled away again.

Ace texts her during 6th period.
“I’m skipping gym. Back of the lot. 10 mins.”
Sami replies with just:
“I’m not changing. Deal with it.”
They meet behind the bleachers, out by where the Devil’s Sons usually park their bikes during school events.
They’re alone for two seconds — three tops — before the low growl of an engine echoes.
Grimm, Ace’s older cousin and full-patched member of the Devil’s Sons, pulls up with another MC member.
He kills the engine, helmet in hand, giving Ace a hard stare.
“Heard you were playing house with some redhead. That true?”
Sami stiffens. Ace steps forward instinctively.
“I’m not— We’re not—”
Grimm’s smirk says enough. “Relax. Just checking if I should send flowers or a warning.”
Sami’s eyes narrow. “Pretty sure neither would go over well.”
Grimm chuckles. “Fiery. I see why you’re distracted.”
The moment’s gone. Again.

End of the day. School’s cleared out. It’s raining lightly. Ace finds her near the bike racks, fiddling with her hoodie.
“I was hoping for one moment,” he says.
She doesn’t say anything. Just steps closer.
There’s a moment — like the one behind the gym — that almost happens again. Their hands brush. Her breath catches.
Then: “SAMANTHA!”
Her mom’s voice, sharp from a car window, ruins it.
“Let’s go. Now.”
Sami’s whole body tenses. She gives Ace a look that says, I’m not choosing this.
But she still has to go.
“Rain check?” she whispers.
“You still owe me a kiss,” he says softly.
She blushes. Turns to leave.
He watches her go.
Again.

Chapter 6 part 2 - No More Almost

It was late now. The sun had dipped behind the school roof, casting long shadows across the empty parking lot. Rain clung to the air like a held breath. Everyone was gone.
Except them.
Sami had texted one word. “Come.”
No location. No explanation.
Ace just knew where to go.
He found her behind the shed at the city park — this time, no interruptions. Just the distant buzz of streetlights and the soft hum of wet gravel underfoot.
Sami stood with her back to him, hoodie pulled tight, damp hair clinging to her neck.
He didn’t say anything. Just stepped behind her — close enough for her to feel the heat of him, but not touching.
“You came,” she whispered.
“You asked.”
She turned. Eyes met.
This wasn’t like before. There was no teasing, no playing cool. Her mask had slipped days ago, and Ace… Ace looked at her like she was the first real thing he’d seen since the crash.

He stepped in, slowly — giving her every chance to move away. She didn’t.
“I’m tired of almosts,” she said.
His voice came out low, steady. “Then let’s stop almosting.”
Her hand slid up to his chest.
His found her waist.
And then — finally — they kissed.
Not rushed. Not frantic.
Just real.

His lips met hers like a breath he’d been holding in too long. Her fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt like she wasn’t sure if she was kissing him or anchoring herself to the moment.
Everything else faded — the Devil’s Sons, her friends, the rumors, the noise.
This was the quiet between storms.
And for the first time since the accident, Ace felt whole again.
She pulled back just enough to whisper against his mouth, breath trembling:
“That wasn’t nothing.”
Ace smiled, just barely.
“No. That was the start of everything.”
Some time has passed, graduation is tomorrow, the question now, what happens next?

Chapter 6 part 3- Stay With Me
The night was quiet, the kind that made every decision feel heavier.
The sky was velvet black, stretched over the empty bleachers behind the school. The field lights had already been shut off. The only glow came from the faint red of Ace’s cigarette and the moonlight slipping between clouds.
He was already waiting when Sami showed up.
No words at first. Just a look. Just silence.
She sat beside him, knees brushing his, hoodie sleeves pulled over her hands. “Tomorrow’s it,” she said.
He nodded, flicking ash into a soda can. “You ready?”
She hesitated. “I got in. Out of state. Full ride.”
His jaw tensed, but he didn’t flinch. “Yeah. Figured.”
More silence.
Then, softly— “I’m not going.”
Sami looked at him, shocked. “What?”
He turned toward her, eyes steady. Honest.
“I talked to Grimm. I’m staying with the club.”
“Ace—” “I know. I know what you’re gonna say. That it’s dangerous. That it’s messy. That it’s not a future.”
“But it’s my future. And I want you in it.”
She stared at him. Her chest rising and falling like it hurt to breathe.

“You want me to stay… and what? Be your girl while you run around with the MC?”
“No,” he said quickly, shaking his head. “I want you to join me. Not just sit on the back of the bike. I want you next to me.”
“You think I can just fit into that world?”
“You already do. You showed up when no one else did. You kept showing up. You fought for me before I even knew how to fight for myself.”
His voice cracked.
“You’ve already got the heart for this life. You’ve got me, Sami. That’s all I know.”
Tears welled in her eyes, but she blinked them away fast.

“What about school? What about me having something outside of you?”
“Then build it here. I’ll help. I don’t want to hold you back — I want to build something with you. The MC’s not perfect, but it’s real. And you… you’re the only real thing I’ve ever had.”
She shook her head, eyes glistening, torn in every direction.
“I had plans, Ace.”
He leaned in, forehead against hers, voice barely a whisper. “So let’s make new ones. Together.”
A long pause. And then—her lips found his.
It wasn’t soft this time. It was desperate. Full of tears and anger and want. A kiss that said I don’t know what comes next but I want you in it.
When they finally pulled away, her voice shook.
“If I stay… you better mean it. No secrets. No shutting down. You want me in your world, then I want all of it.”
He didn’t even blink.
“I’m all in, Red. Always have been.”

Will she stay? And if she does, what about college and her dreams
The only thing she can think about right now besides graduation is. He chose her.
