Chapter 1 The Accident
It was late, too late for a girl like Sami to be walking alone, but her head was spinning from another fight with her mom, and the cool night air felt better then the walls of her bedroom.
Her curly red hair bounced with every step as she turned down the quiet stretch of Maple Street, hoodie zipped up tight, arms crossed.
She barely heard the motorcycle before it came into view, just a low hum in the distance. The street was empty, streetlights glowing orange, stretching across the pavement.
Then it happened. A sedan sped through the intersection, headlights off. Sami barely had any time to gasp before the crash. Metal against metal, the sound of something snapping, and the sickening thud of a body hitting the pavement.
She froze, eyes wide. The motorcycle slid across the road in a shower of sparks, the rider flew.
Sami ran before she could think, her heart pounding louder then the sires already in the distance.
The rider lay sprawled on the curb, helmet half cracked, leather jacket torn.
She dropped to her knees beside him, voice shaking
“Hey,hey! Are you okay? Can you hear me?
The man groaned.
The helmet slipped just enough for her to see his face.
Her breath caught.
“Ace!?” She yells
Of course it was ace. The guy who rolled his eyes everytime she spoke in class, who always had a smart remark or smug smirk. The guy she swore she couldn’t stand.
Now he was bleeding, hurt, vulnerable, and she’s the only one there.
“Oh my god, Ace wake up, I need yout to stay with me!”
“Mmph..” He groans softly, trying to open his eyes. His forehead is bleeding slightly, and he has deep cuts on his arms. He tries to move slightly but winces in pain.
“No,no, dont move, you’ve been in an accident and help is coming” Sami says calmly.
“f**k…” He swears under his breath, his voice is hoarse. He tries to focus on your face, his green eyes blurry but slowly clearing. “You..” He starts to say something, but cuts himself off after another wave of pain hits him. He reaches out with a shaky hand towards you instinctively.
“Where were you coming from, gotta stay awake okay” I say to him calmly
“Club..” He mutters softly, his eyes flickering slightly. He is trying to stay awake, but his body feels heavy. He sees you worrying over him, your brows furrowed, hair slightly messy. He swallowed hard, “You…”
“Where were you going after?” I asked making sure there wasnt any more visible injuries
“Home..” he replies softly, watching you carefully check his body for injuries. He hisses slightly when you touch his ribs softly. He has deep cuts on his back too, that you can’t see yet. “You’re..”
“Can you wiggle your fingers and toes for me ace” I ask him
He tries to wiggle his fingers and toes as instructed, grimacing in pain but managing a weak smirk. “See? Still functional…” He jokes weakly, his green eyes meeting yours with a rare moment of vulnerability. The sirens are getting closer now. “Why..” he pauses swallowing hard “…”
“Help is coming ace, there probably going to ask you the same questions I did, you need to stay awake okay” I say to him reassuringly
He nods slightly, his eyes never leaving yours. “Okay..” He agrees softly, his voice barely above a whisper now. The ambulance arrives, paramedics rush out to help him. They start checking his vitals and asking questions, Ace keeps glancing at you nervously.
He holds out his hand, and points to you.
“With.. with her” he manages to say, his hand outstretched towards you. The paramedics look at each other and then towards you questioningly. Ace’s eyes pleading, “please..” he whispers still reaching out.
I walked towards him gently grabbing his hand, telling him its going to be okay. I tell the paramedics everything I saw and the injuries I could find. As we get into the ambulance.
The paramedics nod seriously, “his pulse is rapid, blood pressure is low. He might have internal injuries” they mutter as they work quickly. One looks at you, “ you his girlfriend?” He asks softly. You freeze slightly before answering. Ace watches you carefully.
“Um no, but we go to school together, I just wanted to help.” I say still in shock.
The paramedic nods understandingly while ace watches you intently, his grip on your hand tightening slightly as if seeking comfort or reassurance. As the ambulance speeds to the hospital, he turns his head weakly towards you,his face inches from yours despite the pain evident on his features. “Stay..”
“Do I need to call anyone?” I ask him
He takes a moment to think, his breath coming in short gasps. “My…my president” he manages to say, his voice strained, “phones in my pocket”. He nods towards his jeans, where his phone is tucked away. The paramedics retrieve it and hands it to you.
He puts in the password, you immediately go to his contacts and find the number.
“Hello?” A deep voice answers after one ring, he sounds stern and slightly worried. “Ace?” He asks sharply hearing no response. You freeze slightly before speaking softly. “Um… this isnt Ace” you murmur softly. “Who is this? Wheres Ace?” Says the voice on the phone
“My name is Samantha, a classmate of his, he has been in an accident. Where on the way to the hospital” I say nervously.
There’s a moment of silence before the voice comes back sternly, “ im on my way right now. Which hospital?” He asks quickly. You give him the name and address of the hospital, as ace watches you carefully, his eyes fluttering slightly with pain. The paramedics check his vitals again.
“Ace, stay awake please” I say before hanging up the phone.
He looks his eyes with yours with intense focus, “ im here” he whispers. The ambulance pulls up to the emergency bay, the door flys open and they rush him inside. Ace reaches out for you “stay..” he calls out as he is being rushed behind the doors.
