Chapter 2 The Hospital

819 Words
Sami was left standing in a pool of red light from the emergency bay, her hands stained and her mind spinning.
Inside the waiting room, the clock ticked louder than the voices around her. Nurses moved in and out. She didn’t know if she was supposed to be there but she stayed. Just as ace asked.
She sat, waited. Pictured the way ace looked at school, annoyed, cocky, untouchable. Now he was behind those double doors, broken. Alone.
Suddenly the entrance doors swung open.
A tall man with cold eyes and a leather cut stepped in. The patch on his chest read “Reaper-President”.
He spots you immediately.
“You sami?” He asked
You nodded, standing instinctively.
Reaper looked her up and down. Not in a creepy way, more like sizing her up. Figuring out how she fit in to all of this.
“Your the one who called?” He asked
“Yeah,” she said softly “ I saw it happen, I didn’t know what else to do” she said, tears threatening to fall from her eyes.
He nodded once, a rare expression of approval crossing his face, “you did right” he says
“I just did what I thought was right, I made sure to keep him awake. His helmet was almost in two pieces” she says as the tears begin to fall.
“Hey, you did good, really good Samantha, just breathe” reaper says to her.
After what feels like hours, your adrenaline begins to wear off, you start dosing off in the chair. Not taking your eyes off thoes double doors.
The doctors arrival captures both our attention, Reaper sits up straight, giving the doctor his full attention.
The doctor is middle aged, with a mixed expression and kind eyes he asks “are you family?”
“No, classmate. I was the first one on scene and called for help” I say with a shaky voice.
The doctor nods approvingly, “you did a good job, sweetheart. He’s stable now, broken ribs, concussion, but no internal bleeding.” He pauses, seeing the relief wash over your face before adding “ He wants to see you” Reaper looks at you expectantly. “Go on”
I follow the doctor to the recovery room.
The doctor leads you to his room, he smiles sympathetically, “he’s been asking for you nonstop” you open the door, ace immediately watches you like a hawk, he is wearing an oxygen mask, his back and chest are wrapped tightly.
 Sami’s POV
I walk over and sit in a chair next to the bed, gently placing his hand in mine. He tries to squeeze, his eyes communicating much more than words can right now. The oxygen mask muffled his voice, “ Angel…” he manages to croak out, his typically tough demeanor completely gone. He looks vulnerable, terrified even, something ive never seen before.
“Hey, just relax okay, you’ve been through alot tonight” i say calmly.
He nods slightly, tightening his grip on my hand, as if to stay grounded, The monitor beeps steadily, a reminder of how close he came to not waking up. Tears well up in his eyes, as he cries silently.
I carefully wipe away his tears, “ace, hey look at me, you are safe, reaper is in the waiting room too. I say calmly.
His eyes lock onto mine, “you stayed..” he says searching. “You asked me to ace, Im here.” I say putting my hand up to his cheek.
He tries to sit up too give me a hug, “ careful, you have some broken ribs, don’t move unless you have help” I say sternly with a smile
A small smile forms behind his mask, “yes ma’am” he says “f**k, I’ve never been this helpless in my life”
“Hey, It’s okay, we can’t always be strong” I say to him
Reaper knocks on the door, “come in” i say turning my head, at least 15 bikers come walking in behind him.
They all share the same worried expression, but say nothing, one finally walks over and gently places his hand on ace’s shoulder. “Good to see you awake brother”
We both fill everyone in, and what the doctor instructed.
Reaper nods, keeping his gaze on us a little longer before joing the other bikers
I turn my attention back to ace, he still hasn’t let go of my hand. “Get some rest, I’m not going anywhere tonight, I promise” I say reassuringly.
He gives me a small greatfull smile, and allows his eyes to shut. The grip on my hand loosens slightly but doesn’t fully let go.
After a while, the subtle sounds of the machines lull me to sleep, right there next to ace.
