CHAPTER 3: SHE KNEW "Speaking of which, your marriage to the Bahams has been fixed." Grandmother said with her gaze fixed on me. "You mean me? My marriage? " i asked in disbelief pointing a finger at myself. Before I could even comprehend what she had said, she replied indifferently. "yes you. King Philip's son Malik is about to take the throne and he will need his bride by his side as you already knew." she said moving her gaze to my aunt. 'What the hell is going on? Who's getting married? Who the f*ck is this Malik guy? And what does any of this have to do with me?' These questions were popping up in my head all at once. My hand started sweating, I was about to loose my sh*t but suddenly a lump grew in my throat when I noticed who grandmother's gaze fell on while she said those words .' what the f*ck is going on? ' I asked myself. my eyes widened as reality struck. She knew. "Aunt, what is she talking about?" A gleam of guilt flashed on my aunt's eyes, her mouth slightly trembled but she didnt utter a word. I felt hurt and betrayal creeping into my heart, my eyes started burning as tears threatened to fall. "W-what?? You knew?" I glared at her expecting her to refute but deep down in my heart I knew that would not happen, not now that the situation was already like this. Before I could utter another word my grandmother cut in. " Liza, don't tell me you didn't tell her all this while at least now this nonentity can do something worth our family's pride." she spat clearly mocking. The audacity that woman has, She could tell just how hurt I was but she went as far as calling me insignificant. She must derive happiness from my sorrows... I thought. But I wasn't going to take it laying down. So I stood up." grandmother what is you problem? What did I ever do to you to deserve this from you?" I was loosing my cool. Everything was pissing me off and the old hag was annoying me to the core. "Meera please, sit down let me explain it to you." aunt pleaded. "what sort of attitude is this? Little girl I'm your elder you better show me some respect!!" grandmother roared cutting in again before I could even consider my aunt's plee, pissing me off even more. I shot her a dead stared. "Respect??" I scoffed feeling ridiculed. "Meera!" Aunt raised her voice trying to reprimand but I completely ignored her. Ididn't care if I was going overboard besides the old woman in front of me had completely crossed the line. "Honestly, what the f*ck do you want from me. You call me to your house then treat me like an uninvited guest... You think I care about freaking contempt??" I paused for a bit as I had started panting from all the shouting. "Even I was doing fine without hearing from you, I mean who would want to be around a resentful, annoying self righteous prick like you?" I spat stattling everyone in the room. Grandmother huffed in disbelief. "Meera! That's enough!!!" Aunt shouted. I bit my lower lip and sat down upon realizing that my sudden outburst had nothing to do with the fact that they were trying to marry me off to some guy I didn't even know, rather to do with me being fed up with my grandmother treating me like something less than vermin. "man she is very bold. Sister, you taught her well." My uncle Colin finally spoke up or should I say travested. Blockhead! I didn't know this one existed until earlier now he has the nerve to feign. Huh! Like mother like son. Aunt was clearly annoyed by his comment but she didn't pay him any heed, instead she turned to me and said, "Go to your room." with a straight face. Okay maybe I shouldn't have cursed. I went too far I know but she definitely had it coming. Speaking of which she'd been quiet it's unlike her. Or maybe my word hit straight home. "Meera" my aunt called pulling me out of my trance. "Huh? Yes" I said getting up and heading back to my assigned room. I don't know what they discussed in my absence and quite frankly I didn't care. I was just happy to get way form them. I layed on the bed and heaved a sigh. My mind ran back to what grandmother said. They had arranged my marriage with someone. who was this Malik guy and most importantly, why wasn't I informed of this? I mean if they were going to get me married to someone they would need my consent, right? Sigh! I had too many questions and they were giving me a headache. I decided to turn in for the night, as for my question they'd be answered the next day. As I was about to let sleepiness take over my phone rang. "Babe..! "she shouted. "Hey what's up. " I was so tired I couldn't even hide it. The last thing I wanted was to be face-timing with exuberant Zoe. "The sky. " she giggled mockingly. I rolled my eyes at her obviously annoyed. "Dude, you look like sh*t. What happened? Wicked witch of the South already on your last nerve? " I hieved a sigh. "That bad, huh? " I nodded. "I can't believe them Zoe, everything is a mess and I think Omar is up to something. " I sniffed suddenly feeling like everything Is too much. "What?? " she shouted almost deafening my ears. "Omar is cheating on you? Mimi I told you that moron doesn't deserve you. Damn it! I'm going to shave his f**** head when I see him. " Yep that my best friend Zoe for you. Always ready to fight my battles. She hated Omar's guts by the way. "Zoe calm down, I didn't say he cheated, okay. I just think something is up. " I explained. "What did he do then? " she demanded. She was always the impatient one. I decided not to tell her about some woman answering Omar's phone. I could be wrong about it and Zoe would stay still if I told her. As for what my grandmother said, it was too early to tell her. "I jus had a hunch Zoe, it doesn't mean anything. It was just a feeling I got. " I told her. "Mimi are you out of your mind. Dude if you get the feeling that your man is doing something he shouldn't then he obviously is. " she stated. "Zoe please, I'm tired. Let's talk about this some other time okay. " I said honestly feeling like I was going to doze off any minute now. "Okay fine but we will talk about this. " she said cheerlessly. "Yes ma'am. Goodnight, I love you." She replied. "Goodnight, I love you too" We hung up and I slowly felt sleepiness enveloping me and soon drifted into deep slumber.
