MIA’S P.O.V
I heard footsteps above me, breaking my peaceful sleep. I looked at my alarm clock which showed 2am. ‘Who would be walking around at this hour?'. Could dad be back? But that’s impossible because he just left a few hours ago and his meeting is tomorrow, he wouldn’t come back so soon! Unless he has forgotten something?’ I thought to myself. Then, I heard a squeak and I instantly knew that it came from dad’s office door. Now, I was more convinced that dad has forgotten something important and came back. Putting on my bedroom slippers I left my room to help him find whatever it is that he was looking for, until something made me stop in my tracks. “Muddy footprints?” I whispered in shock as my eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Dad will never mess up the house and he would have parked in front of the roundabout, there’s no mud there. This is very odd. Just then I noticed the size of the footprints, which was two times smaller than the size of my father shoes. The person upstairs was not my father!!!
Taking off my shoes, I crept to the room that Beatrice slept in. I slowly turned the handle but to my disappointment the room was locked. ‘What should I do now? If I knock, he might hear it! I cannot take that risk!’ I thought to myself, just then realisation hit me and I tip-toed, down the staircase, going all the way to the first floor of our mansion, constantly turning back, hoping that the person does not see me from the forth floor balustrade. The i***t upstairs, left the front door opened, which was an advantage for me as could just creep my way outside. Creeping past the door successfully, I bolted to the security cabin only to see our guards lifeless bodies, eyes opened, no movement as blood flowed out of the bullet wounds from their heads. I covered my mouth, to prevent myself from screaming, tears rolled down my cheeks as I stood there numb but trembling, not knowing what to do but knowing that the person inside my house is nothing but armed and dangerous. And I, outside here ,unarmed ,helpless and vulnerable!
I crept back inside, the mansion which brightened by the moonlight, I was making my way back to my room, until I saw Beatrice’s door opened. Looking inside, I saw the room empty. “Where could she be?” I whispered to myself. “Mia!” I heard her calling and panic rushed through my body, rushing to the source of the voice I ran up to the third floor, putting one hand over her month, I gestured for her to be quite with my finger over my lips, she nodding in understanding and I pulled her to the side of the pillar, both of us hiding in fear as the door to my father’s office opened and a man walked out. His steps got closer and closer as me and Beatrice pushed our bodies so hard against the pillar as if we wanted to become part of it. Hearing the footsteps go past us and back down the stairs we felt a sense of relief.
“I think he is gone to the second floor” I whispered. “Yes, let’s make our way to dad’s office and call the police” I suggested and we left our hiding spot. My heart started to drum in my chest as we heard him run back upstairs. We ran to dad’s office, me taking the lead and Beatrice right behind me until I heard her scream, stopping and turning around, I felt a heavy blow on my head, falling to the floor, I saw the man, of average height and muscular , with a mask over his face. His green eyes stared into my brown fear filled one. Another blow and all I saw was darkness and I heard his footsteps fading away as I faded into the darkness...

“Mia! Mia! Mia baby wake up!” was all I heard as I was pulled back into consciousness. “Dad?” I said and placed a hand on my throbbing head. “She’s awake!!” my dad yelled and a paramedic came rushing towards my stretcher. “Mr. Matteo I told you not to wake her” he said as he began checking my vitals. “I didn’t wake her, she woke up on her own” lied my father, making me laugh at his childishness. “Dad! Beatrice? Is she okay? I remember hearing her scream!” I said as he tried to calm me down again. “Yes Darling! Beatrice is fine! She has also been knocked out like you” my dad’s words gave me a sense of relief. “Dad! The guards!” I said in tears as I recalled that horrible image. “Mia, you don’t worry about anything. Let me handle it, whatever happened here tonight was horrific but there was nothing that anyone of us could have done. Rest Mia!” my father commanded.
“Ms. Can I take your statement?” asked a police officer, coming towards us with a book. “Can’t it wait?” asked my father, his voice high and in power but I knew that he was just being concerned about my health. “Mr. Matteo, the sooner we have any information, the sooner we can start to work on the case and find out who did all of this” explained the officer and my father nodded in agreement. “Ms. Matteo, can you explain all the events that you can remember of tonight” asked the officer and I told him everything from the time that I opened my eyes due to the sound of footsteps, till the time I closed my eyes hearing the footsteps fade away. “The problem is that we are having difficulty finding motive, which makes it even harder to find the person. From what I have gathered, it seems like he was looking for something in your office, but we have done a check and as you said all important documents are still there. There was some rambling in the library as well but still, nothing was taken! Perhaps he didn’t find what he was looking for? Mr. Matteo do you have any idea of who it might have been? Or what he was looking for?” the officer asked my dad. “There’s no one that I can think of at the moment. He opened my safe but all my valuables are still intact, so it wasn’t money that he was after. Maybe it was a copy of a business contract that he was after and all of those are in my office, hence he didn’t find it here? It has to be someone close to us because it was planned. I left just a few hours before he could come, if I had been here then he would have never stood a chance!” My dad thought hard, anger burnt in his eyes. “That is possible, we will look further into it. By the description that Mia has given, do you know anyone who looks like that?” the officer asked. “No, to be honest I don’t know anyone with ‘Green’ eyes, I know someone with sky blue ones though” said my father. “DAD!!!” I scolded. “But none with green and it couldn’t have been sky blue eyes” I said quickly. “Okay Mr. Matteo. Here is my card, if you think of anything at any time please give me a call. We will be doubling security and will provide the both of you with personal body guards, we will also double security at the office just in case he goes there next to look for what he didn’t find here” said the officer as he handed my dad a card and left.

XAVIER’S P.O.V
“Did you get it?” I asked as I sipped on my whiskey. “Yes Sir, only thing the girl and a house keeper saw me, I had to knock them out” said Mark as he handed me the book. “Is the girl okay?” I asked. “Yes Sir, she will probably have a headache” he explained. “Good job Mark! Now leave me to read” I complimented and ordered, eager to see what secrets this book holds that it was hidden so well, even Dane Matteo didn't know about it and it was in his house.
