Rose Colored Glasses
The day before my life ended I was a happy shewolf patiently waiting for my fated mate. My parents sheltered me greatly as we were the only white wolves in existence and I was the last of our bloodline. Our bloodline stood out with jet black hair and porcelain skin. My mother was the opposite, a wolf with fur as dark as the abyss, but with fair skin, and curves in all the right places and hair golden as the sun. My father adored her and cherished their fated mate bond. I was only 17 so I didn’t have my wolf yet but I had my father’s jet black hair and porcelain skin but had my mother’s curves. Another reason they sheltered me I guess, my father was always afraid someone would try to steal me away.
I did everything that was expected of me as the princess of the Eclipse Kingdom, and daughter of the late King Alexander and Queen Helen. I excelled in all of my studies, kept to myself and stayed out of trouble, but most of all I was still virtuous. Even after the terrible accident that killed my father and mother, I tried to see the beauty and life around me. Since I was the only aire to the kingdom and not yet of age, my father’s council took on running the day to day management. Little did I know that they were just plotting to get rid of me as I watched the world through rose colored glasses.
My father’s council was made up of 3 men that had been under him since before I was born. Frederick being the oldest was my least favorite. He coveted my father’s thrown and always dismissed my presence. His duty was to administer punishment among the wolves found guilty of crimes. Stanley was about the same age as my father. He was a quiet man and mostly only gave counsel on policies that related to the packs. Lastly there was General Hamel, he was my father’s war council. For being a general he actually had a sense of humor and was my favorite. Between the three of them they could run the kingdom even without my father. It was actually a relief to have them step in so I could grieve my parents. When the news came that parents were attacked by rogues on their way home from a neighboring kingdom, I was devastated. How could rogues take down my powerful father?! It was unimaginable.
It was early September and the castle was full of bustling as we prepared for the Autumn Festival tomorrow. All of the packs within the kingdom would come to celebrate here and it was truly a magical time. The moon would be full, there would be foods of all different kinds, grand decorations and even carnival games and rides for the pups. It was my late father’s favorite festival and mine as well. My birthday was also exactly a week after the festival, I’d be getting my wolf and to be honest I’m terrified without my mother and father here to guide me. However the kingdom needs me and I need to find my mate so I can carry on the bloodline. Thinking on the memories of the past almost puts me in depression but remembering my father’s huge smile has happy tears running down my cheeks. I quickly swipe them away as my ladies maid, Anastasia walks in to help me ready for the day. I love her deeply as she’s been my only friend since I could remember. Being a princess didn’t allow me to have girlfriends. Even if it were allowed, I would never have the time to maintain friendships. My days were full of classes from etiquette to normal schooling to also running a kingdom or queen training as I like to call it. Anastasia greets me, “Good morning princess Freya, it’s a beautiful day!” Then walks into the bathing chamber to prepare my bath. “Anastasia I’m so excited for the festival I can barely take it, it’s all I could dream of as I slept!” I say as I quickly get ready for the day. Then with Anastasia, I head out to breakfast and get today over with so tomorrow’s festivities can finally arrive.
