She lost her voice when she was six. Everyone called it a curse. They were wrong. It was a warning.Wren Ashwood hasn't spoken a single word in thirteen years — not since a fever burned her voice away and left her sealed in silence. Her pack calls her broken. Her father calls her a liability. The only ones who ever looked past it were her little sister... and the grief she can't explain to anyone.Because somewhere in that silence, Wren gained something no healer could name: she can hear the pain of every rejected wolf who's ever lived. Not their words. Their wounds. A second heartbeat of sorrow that never sleeps, that she's spent her whole life hiding, because the one time she let it show, her own mother looked at her like she was something to fear. Now her father has found a use for his "broken" daughter after all.To end a border war that's cost both packs too many lives, Wren is being given — not married, given — to Alpha Draven Blackthorn: a man who hasn't spoken more than a sentence to anyone outside his Beta in two years, ever since his first Luna died. Cold. Silent. Feared. The kind of Alpha other packs invoke to make their pups behave.Blackthorn Pack agreed to the alliance because a mute bride is one more insult they're willing to swallow to stop the bloodshed. No one in either pack expects a real marriage. No one expects a real mate bond. Least of all Draven, who has spent two years making sure no one gets close enough to matter again. But Wren isn't walking into Blackthorn territory as a peace offering. She's walking in as something far more dangerous — because Blackthorn Pack has more rejected, discarded, silenced wolves within its borders than anywhere in the north, and every single one of them is about to have a voice for the first time in years. As Wren begins to unravel the truth behind Draven's silence — and the death of the Luna nobody in his pack will speak of — she realizes the coldest Alpha in the north isn't cold at all. He's drowning. And the "curse" that made her broken might be the only thing strong enough to reach him.A rebellion is rising from wolves the world already gave up on. An Alpha is one betrayal away from losing everything he has left. And a girl who was never supposed to have a voice is about to become impossible to silence. She was given away as an apology. She's about to become a reckoning.A slow-burn fated-mates romance of arranged alliances, buried grief, and a silence more powerful than anyone bargained for.

Chapter One: The Wolf Who Couldn't Scream
The pack called me *broken* before they ever called me anything else. I was six when the fever took my voice — not my hearing, not my mind, just the sound. One night I was screaming from a nightmare, and by morning nothing came out at all. The healers said it was the moon's punishment. My mother said it was a curse. My father stopped looking at me the way a father looks at a daughter and started looking at me the way you look at a debt you can't pay off. Now I was nineteen, and I still remembered every syllable I used to know, trapped behind a throat that refused to let them out. "Wren." Beta Callum's voice cut through the training yard, sharp enough that every wolf near me flinched on my behalf. "Alpha wants you in the Great Hall. Now." I set down the herbs I'd been sorting — bloodroot for wounds, ashleaf for fever — and wiped my hands on my apron. My little sister Tamsin caught my sleeve before I could go. *What did you do?* she signed, fingers quick with worry. *Nothing,* I signed back. *That's usually the problem.* She didn't laugh. Neither of us really believed nothing was coming. --- The Great Hall of Ashwood Pack smelled like cedar smoke and old power, and every eye in the room turned to me the second I stepped through the doors — not with curiosity, but the particular flavor of pity people save for something they've already decided is finished. My father stood beside the Alpha's empty chair, and I understood, in the sick drop of my stomach, exactly what kind of meeting this was. "Ambassadors from Blackthorn Pack arrived this morning," my father said, not quite looking at me. "Alpha Draven has agreed to a mating alliance. To end the border conflict." I went very still. "You," he continued, "are the alliance." I laughed — or tried to. What came out was silent, just breath and a shake of my shoulders, which somehow made it worse, made the room shift with discomfort at watching a girl laugh without sound. *Me?* I signed, sharp and furious. *You're giving the silent daughter to the coldest Alpha in the northern territories as a peace offering?* "You're the only unmated daughter of rank," my father said. "Blackthorn doesn't care if you can talk. He cares that you're an Alpha's blood, and that giving him a broken bride is one more insult they'll swallow to end this war before it costs more lives." *A broken bride.* He'd said it to my face like it was diplomacy and not a knife. Beta Callum had the decency to look uncomfortable. My mother, seated near the fire, didn't look at me at all. "When," I signed, because some part of me had already stopped fighting and started calculating. "Three days. He arrives at sundown on the equinox to claim you." *Claim.* Not marry. Not meet. Claim, like I was livestock being delivered on schedule. --- I didn't cry until I was back in the herb room, alone, grinding ashleaf into powder I didn't need, just to have something to do with my hands that wasn't shaking. Tamsin found me there an hour later. She didn't say anything — she'd learned, from thirteen years of being my sister, that sometimes the kindest thing was silence to match mine. *Alpha Draven,* she finally signed, hesitant. *They say he hasn't spoken a full sentence to anyone outside his Beta in two years. Since his first Luna died.* *Good,* I signed back, bitter. *Then we'll have a lot in common.* But that night, lying awake while my sister slept beside me the way she had since we were children, I let myself think the thing I hadn't said out loud — not even in my head, not even in silence. Since the fever took my voice, I'd gained something no healer had ever explained, something I'd hidden for thirteen years because the one time I'd tried to tell my mother, she'd looked at me like I was something to fear rather than something to help. I could hear wolves who had been rejected. Not their voices — their *grief*. It lived in my skull like a second heartbeat, a chorus of every wolf who'd ever been cast aside by a mate, a pack, a family. Ashwood had taught me to keep that chorus locked behind the same silence that took my voice. Blackthorn Pack, I'd heard whispered more than once, had more rejected wolves within its borders than any territory in the north. If Alpha Draven thought he was receiving a broken bride as a political apology, he had no idea what kind of silence he was about to let into his home. Three days. Then I'd find out exactly what he'd been sent — and what he'd been hiding from, alone, since his first Luna died.
