Stronger Than Most

Chapter Eight

Elijah POV

This is my chance to leave this place. There is no reason for me to be here. Maybe I can convince Hank to leave with me. I know Sharlot would not be able to leave, she is a beta, the daughter of Beta David at that.

"Elijah! What are you still doing here? This is your chance to leave!"

"Yes Sharlot. I was just thinking about that. Are you and Hank coming with me?"

"I can't leave, Elijah, you know I cant. If I do, my father will never rest and your life could be more in danger."

"I was afraid you would say that. Have you seen Hank anywhere?"

"No, I went to the pack house to look for him but I could not find him."

"Here I have packed you a few things. Take the chance, because there is no better time than now for you to leave. This is the perfect time. The pack is getting weaker every time we get an attack."

"Okay. Then let's look for Hank."

"No need, I'm here. When the fight broke out, I took this opportunity to escape. I came here as soon as I could to help you break out but it looks like I'm a bit late."

"They forgot to lock the dungeon."

"Actually, Hank, I was looking for you to see if you wanted to leave with me. Sharlot can not go, but you can."

"What if they find out that I'm gone? They probably won't stop looking for us until we are dead."

We are just standing there looking at each other in defeat.

"Think about it, Hank, Elijah, we are getting attacked. A lot of our people are dead."

"Your people, Sharlot, not ours."

"Fine, my people.They would probably think you guys are among the dead."

"What if they start looking for our bodies?"

Hank and I are now looking at Sharlot for an answer.

"Maybe they will think the rogues have taken you guys."

"That would be worse. Alpha Nick and Beta David might think they took us as prisoners for answers on how to take over the pack or something."

"Listen guys, if any happens I'll just try and cover for you guys and say that I found your bodies and that you guys are unrecognizable or something."

"That idea makes more sense. So Hank, are you ready to go?"

"I don't know Elijah, I'm worried about all this."

"Hank, you have nothing to loose, you have no one here, no family."

"I have you too as my family, and yes, they tortured us and bullied us, and treated us less than garbage, but this was my parents' pack."

"Hank, you have to make a decision, before anyone finds out or sees you."

"Where would we go, with what money?"

"We can figure that out along the way."

"Hank,Elijah, I'm going to miss you guys, but you have to leave now."

"We will be in touch, Sharlot."

"We will miss you too."

Hank and I started running to the other end of the fight to avoid being seen. We didn't get far when someone started following us.We ran so much that it felt like we had run for days. I'm not in the best shape of my life, and this running feels like it's killing me. We eventually are outside of the borders of the pack and head into town.

"Hank, you know this place way better than me. I've never been out into the real world. Where do we go now?"

" Lets go somewhere to get something to eat."

"I have never tasted anything so good as this burger."

"There is a lot more out there for you to explore. Take it easy with the food. You don't want to get sick, Elijah."

"This is incredible Hank!"

"I know but we have to save some money to figure out where we are going to spend the night."

"There is so much to see out here, it is so exciting."

"Alright buddy, let's go to look for some place to lay our heads tonight."

"Where did you get the money, by the way?"

"I've been saving from little side jobs here and their after school."

"Oh cool, talk about school, how are you going to go back to school if the alpha and beta probably have people looking for us by now."

"That would be tomorrow's worries, and think about getting you to school as well."

"Turning a new leaf, Hank."

"I am sensing we are being watched right now, we have to go."

"How do you know that, Hank?"

"I don't know, I just feel it, and we have to keep this kind of talk to a minimum when in public the human world doesn't know about us."

"I get it, but we are probably human just like them, neither of us have a wolf and any kind of special power or anything alike."

"I know, but humans don't know that our world exists.Come on, I got us a room. You can take the bed and I take the couch if they have one there."

"A bed? I cant remember the last time I slept in a bed."

"I know, that is why you are taking the bed tonight. Just don't get used to it. I would like to sleep in a bed myself once in a while. In the morning we are going to figure out what's next."

All I can do is toss and turn, not really able to sleep. Its hard to sleep with everything that has happened. Dont get me wrong, this is comfortable. After sleeping for so long, the way I did is not that easy. Now I am worried about what awaits me from now on. How can I survive in this world? At least I have Hank to help me along the way. I hope Sharlot is doing well.
