"Adam? Who is he?"
"Oh Elijah, I have to bring you up to speed! says Sharlot.
"You would not like him," says Hank.
"Why not? Because he is the big bad wolf?"
"Adam is not that bad."
"He is a big bully that thinks he's untouchable."
Sharlot rolled her eyes at Hank, and pouted her lips. I just smirked at that. They bicker most of the time.
"He is the heir to the Half Moon Pack."
"So he is the next Alpha?" I looked at her with my eyes popping almost out of my head.
"Yes, but he is sweet to me, and kind, and so sexy. My wolf does not like him at all. Every time we are together she gets mad and stops talking to me. She goes to the back of my mind."
"That should be a sigh, don't you think Sharlot? I says.
"Soon he`ll turn eighteen and find out who his mate is. Hopefully it is me."
I give her a glaring look like I don't trust what she's telling me about him, but I just let it go.
We climbed out of our hiding spot and covered it back up like it never existed.I stood there and admired the river and the valley of wild flowers. Marigolds, lavender, and roses. It's just beautiful and peaceful out here. I heard laughter and giggles coming from Hank and Sharlot. He strips down to his boxers and jumps into the water. He tries to pull Sharlot in with him but she is stronger and fights him off. I just sit at the edge of the river and just watch them having fun. Sharlot goes climbing a small cliff and dares us to jump with her . We both said no and laughed at her.
"You should not jump from their Sharlot, that looks dangerous!"
" Elijah stop being so scary and come up here with me and jump!"
"No, I'm good, I know I'm not that brave."
"Hank, why don't you go and jump with her instead. I`ll be waiting right here."
It is not that I'm not brave, it is more like I'm embarrassed of them seeing me. All my scars and how skinny I look. I know they know about it, I just don't want them looking at me with pity. Sharlot does not even know that most of the beatings and scares I get are from her father, Beta David, and my father, Alpha Nick. They believe it is just the guards and some of the pack kids. Yes, they are part of it, but not as much as them. Recently, since we are older, the more we think about what has happened to us the more questions we come up with. It does not make sense. We came up with a plan to runaway when we turn eighteen, the same night we turn. It just seems impossible at times because Hank and I believe we are wolfless. It would be harder for her to runaway with us just because she is the daughter of the Beta. He is tough with her in her training, because he believes that one day she can be the beta if her mate is not Adam. The future Alpha of the Half Moon Pack. I'm lost in my thoughts when, all of a sudden, I feel someone pulling my legs and drags me to the water. I panic thinking I've been caught out here with them. My heart is racing like crazy. I feel like it is about to just burst out of my chest. I swim and manage to get above the water and look around to see who it is. I don't see Hank or Sharlot.
"It's not funny you guys! Where are you?" Their clothes are still here, so where are they? I went ahead and swam to the edge of the river to get out and they jumped out of the water. They are laughing so hard that tears are running down their faces. " That was not funny guys! I thought something bad had happened!"
"You should have seen your face, Elijah, that was epic, says Hank.
"You should relax a bit, loosen up a bit. Nothing is going to happen to us here. No one knows this spot."
"Says you Sharlot, your the daughter of the beta. Me and Hank would get in big trouble if anyone finds out that we are even friends."
Now the only clothes I own are soaked. Their rags , but I try to keep them clean and looking as decent as possible. Since it is nice outside and still early, I just lay on my back and let the warm sun dry me up. It feels nice on my skin, warm like is giving me a hug. The thought of my mom pops up and I get sad.I have forgotten how she looks , but I have never forgotten the way she smells. She smelled like fresh roses just like this valley, with a hint of lavender.
Sharlot hurries up and gets on her feet, scaring me and Hank.
"What is it, Sharlot, what do you hear?"
With her big brown eyes, looking at us.
"Elijah, Hank, I sense someone is coming, we have to go now!"
