Elijah's POV
Hank and I ran towards the south of the woods. Sharlot ran to the north of the woods. Good thing, Sharlot has her wolf, who gives us a head jump and run to safety. We don't ask questions, we just ran. Felt like we were running for ever. Hank went back to the pack house and I just sneaked my way back to the cell unnoticed.I went back to the corner of my cell, trying to calm my heart rate back down. I was really scared. I wonder what it was that Sharlot sensed that scared her as well. I know she will be okay, she can hold her own. I've seen her training and she's a great fighter. Strong and quick on her feet. Sharlot has brought grown man warriors to their feet.
It is getting dark already. The sunlight has stopped shimmering through the cracks of the dungeon. I'm back in this dark smelly place again. I miss being outside.I still smile because I was able to enjoy some of the outdoors. I hear my stomach growling. I need to eat something, but I know I wont be fed today. My big guts are eating my little guts. I put my hands in my pocket pants and I had forgotten about the muffin Sharlot had brought me earlier. I pull it out and, to my surprise, is still intact. Its not soggy or wet. I quietly unwrap it to make sure the guards don't hear me, and I eat it piece by piece, savoring every bite. Corn muffins taste like heaven to me now. I take two bites and save the rest for later. I go and lie down to rest for the night in what I call my bed. It's a piece of cardboard box just shy of two by four. It's flat and missing some pieces and I have it covered with old rags from the years, collected from whatever I can find.
I try to go to sleep but I cant. I couldn't really hear what was going on outside, just some muffling and the guards ran out. I tried to look through the bars to see if I could hear or see anything but nothing. To my surprise, the door opened. I pushed it open, quietly looked around and saw no one, so I quickly ran through the hall up to the entrance with caution. All I hear is screaming and everyone is out fighting the rogues. The warriors, the guards and my father. There must be hundreds of rogues here. Wonder where so many come from? Why is this pack being attacked so often? I thought we were a powerful, strong pack. I stayed hidden behind a tree far enough from the fight, making sure no one could see me. I looked around to see if I saw Sharlot or Hank, but no sight of them. I hope they are not in the middle of this chaos.
This must be a nightmare. There are bodies everywhere. Rouges and warriors. I feel bad for all the dead people in the pack, but then again, they never cared about me. They mistreated me and abused me every chance they had. On the south side of the pack house I can see my father fighting three rouges at a time with ease. I see more coming at him. No one is helping him. Everyone is busy fighting for their own survival. He had blood gushing from the side of his ribs. I thought Wolf's heels quickly. I started looking closely at the rouges. They are in human form and wolf form. I noticed the ones in wolf form have something in their hands that they are fighting with. I cant really tell what it is. I'm too far away to tell. I started to move closer, going from tree to tree. It shimmers as the moonlight hits it. Could it be what I think it is? All these years of torture and abuse, I'm glad someone can give him a good beating even though the ones that are doing it are the rouges. It is just not good for innocent people to have to go through this. Having to fight to save our territory and protect us. The way I feel right now, even if I could fight I would not help him.
"Elijah! What are you doing here?"
I turned around to see Hank and Sharlot.
"We came to see if your okay, says Hank. Sharlot came looking for me at the pack house. It's madness out there. I heard no one was expecting this."
"Thank goodness you guys are okay. I was looking for you guys among the fight. What is going on, Sharlot?"
