Mr. Thomas wasn’t so happy that his favorite daughter had kept something from him.
"Dad! I find it so difficult to fall in love with any man", she said, making eye contact with her Dad. She stood and looked outside the window to have a better view of what is going on in the neighborhood. " I need to relocate to a remote area, maybe to a place where I am unknown”, she said, unsure if she had just said the right thing.
" What makes you think relocating to a remote area will make you find true love", he said, walking towards the direction of her daughter. He looks sad that his daughter is finding it difficult to get an honest man who truly loves her for who she is and not for her wealth.
"Dad, the only man who truly loves me presently is you Dad I love you so much, and I'm in love with you" she said as she moved closer to her Dad to hug him.
Mr. Thomas Clovis knew his daughter was teasing him. “Victoria, this is a serious matter, don't tease me", he quickly chipped in.
Victoria at the end of their conversation, made it known to her Dad that most men she has dated doesn't have any form of true love for her. Once they get to know her background, their plan is to dupe her. The relationship and love sink. Most of her ex- quest for her wealth.
Victoria Clovis made it known to her Dad that she easily gets intoxicated when she drinks and this sometimes has led to s*x which is not proud of. Mrs. Jane has been eavesdropping and felt ashamed that she has failed as a mother.
She quietly left the door and went to her room feeling tired. Mr. Thomas Clovis was so speechless and at this same time he felt sober that his daughter had to go through all of that. Finally, he was so able to say something "my dear, true love will locate you; I believe there is a young responsible man out there that craves your love," he said with a smile.
To lighten up the atmosphere in the room, Mr. Thomas Clovis decided to challenge his daughter at a game which is her favorite. " Dad, I am too old for that”, she said jokingly, as she went to her closet to change into her nightwear.
Mr. Thomas's mood was a bit mixed, but then, he was happy that his daughter was able to confide in him. Victoria came back and told her dad about her plans to visit a nearby store in the morning.
" Can we go together ", he said as he walked towards the door with his daughter.
"No Dad, I would like to go alone," she said. Mr. Thomas was concerned about his daughter's safety since it had been a while since she had done that.
Mr. Thomas went upstairs to talk to his wife. Mrs. Jane covered herself with a duvet, her eyes puffed.
" Hey, darling, what are you doing all alone?”, Mr. Thomas asked, crawling towards his wife on the bed. Mrs. Jane, so ashamed of herself, couldn't utter a word, tears began to roll from her eyes.
"Thomas, I never imagined that being a good mother to my daughter would be this hard", she said, trying to sit well on the bed. Thomas smiled and moved closer to the bed to hug his wife. “I know right because the woman I got married to is so loving and always cares for both myself and our daughter", he said, placing a kiss on her forehead.
Mrs. Jane was not moved by those words of her husband's. She blamed herself for not being able to understand her daughter's plight on time. Rather, all she does as a mother is to criticize her.
"This is not the time dear; I am damn serious!" she said vehemently, not wanting to offend her husband.
"I totally understand you, but then if you hadn't made not getting a gift from a man for the past five years an issue, we definitely wouldn't have known what she is going through”, he said with a serious look.
"You are right, but then there are ways to things like this “, she said, still mad with herself that she shouldn't have done that.
“That’s why we're couples, and we need to work hand in hand to ensure we are there for our daughter whenever she needs us the most", Mr Thomas said, covering his body with a duvet to rest.
"Forgive yourself and just do what you know how to do best”, he said, sniffing her body. She moves closer to him to cuddle and sleeps peacefully .
Victoria crawled into her bed and cuddled . She felt lonely. Unable to sleep, she listened to her favorite music and, in the twinkling of an eye, she slept like a baby.
The following morning, the birds chirped, and the sun rose beautifully. It looked as if it was going to be a very beautiful morning for Victoria. The alarms beeped continuously, but then all Victoria wanted to do today was to stay in bed all through the day.
Finally, she woke up looking so tired and not wanting to get out of bed. She tried so much in bed before getting up to take a bath.
Victoria stepped out of the house before anyone in the house could sight her. She takes a stroll in the neighborhood.
Victoria strolls around the street quietly. Surprised that things around the neighborhood had changed. She passed through Aviva's mother's shop which had a new occupant. Caged by the memories of the street, she halted in front of the shop.
Her childhood memories flowed through her brain. The spirit of loneliness engulfed her. "Aviva, where are you?" she said to herself, looking left and right at the busy street walking closer to the shop. Her memories lingered.
