Chapter 14

Liam smiles as he steps away from Jace, walking to where I stand at the edge of the clearing.

"This is Anna, Anna, you know Jace, this is Cyrus and Gwen; they lead the local lion clan, Aiden and Merisa lead the black panthers, and this old man is Eli. He leads the local Tiger clan. Liam went around the circle, indicating each Alpha in turn." Gwen and Merisa stepped away from their mates, pulling me away from Liam as the discussion I had interrupted started back up again.

"It's so nice to meet you, Anna, finally!" Gwen whispered, a gentle smile on her face.

"Yes, we were wondering where Liam was hiding you and when we would meet the infamous fox that finally tamed the wolf." Marisa laughed as she glanced at the men who were deep in a debate on their next move.

"Well, that's why I'm here. I haven't seen Liam in about a week, so I wasn't sure if…."

"If he decided you weren't worth the trouble?" Marisa asked sympathetically.

"Don't worry, take it from someone who knows these men would fight the devil himself to protect and care for their mate. If he hasn't been around, there is a good reason for that." The girls must've known I needed a minute to think because they soon started to talk among themselves, leaving me with my thoughts. What was so important was that it would keep Liam away when he claimed nothing would keep him from me, not even two weeks before.

I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn't notice the meeting had even ended until Liam picked me up, cradling me against his chest as he started to walk.

Sighing content, I curled against his chest, enjoying the warmth. Liam didn't say anything as he walked, and it wasn't until we reached a little stream that I realized we weren't headed back to the pack house. Setting me down on a giant bowlder, he stepped back, looking at me for a moment before he spoke.

"Anna, I can't have you here, not right now."

"Did I do something wrong?"

"No. No, you didn't. I can't be around you right now. Every time I look at you, all I can think about is claiming you and making you mine. I won't do that to you, not until you ask me, so until you're ready for that, I can't do this anymore. I'm not strong enough, and the last thing I want is for you to start hating me because I forced you into something you don't want or are not ready for." Liam looked away, his face blank of emotion.

"Liam, I'm sorry. I know I haven't been everything you need, but this last week without you has been hell.' I paused as I stood up; ignoring the pain in my feet, I walked to him. Taking his face in my hands, I forced him to look at me as I spoke. "It made me realize I need you. I found myself thinking of you more than I ever thought possible, and I found myself not only thinking of you but also missing you. I missed your smile, how you laugh, and even how you know the right buttons to push to get a rise out of me. I know I'm not ready to be claimed yet but is it enough to know that I want to be with you even if it means I'm not ready to take on everything being your mate entails?"

Liam was quiet for a moment as he looked at me, searching my face.

"I think I can handle that. Just know this," Liam murmured as he pulled me close. Kissing me gently, his lips moved down my chin and neck to my ear. "You are mine," he growled as he nipped the tip of my ear before sucking my earlobe into his mouth. Without warning, Liam grabbed my ass, picking me up, forcing me to wrap my legs around his waist so that with every step, I could feel his hard length. Liam's d**k strained against his jeans, rubbing my c**t, making me moan in delight with every step he took.

"Anna, keep that up, and I will strip you down and f**k you here and now," Liam growled as he looked down at me.

"Is that a promise?" I moaned again as he rubbed against my c**t again.

I had barely gotten the words out when Liam pinned me against a tree. Arching against him, I gasped as he trailed kisses down my neck. He paused at the base of my neck, biting the spot where he would eventually Mark me.

"Mine," he growls as his hands slip between my legs and insert a finger into my wet aching center. His fingers pumped into me, bringing me close to the edge as his lips trailed down my neck, pausing at my n*****s, sucking one of them into his mouth. Switching to my other n****e, he bit down, sending me over the edge. Setting me on my feet, he stepped back slowly, removing his clothes as he watched me, still shaking from my orgasm.

Picking me back up, he positioned himself at my entrance as I wrapped my legs around his waist. Stopping, Liam pulled back slightly as he looked into the trees behind him. Alec stood there, his hands clenched into fists at his side.

"Alec," Liam growled, angry at being interrupted. "This better be important."

"When you didn't arrive back after the meeting, I wondered if you were ok one can't be too careful considering recent events." Alec's voice was calm as he spoke, as was his face, his hands clenched at his sides, the only indication that he was feeling anything other than calm.

"We're fine. Leave," Liam ordered, not bothering to see Alec's reaction. He turned to back to me he kissed my neck. Alec's face contorted in anger as he looked at his brother before he turned on his heel and stalked away. Once again, leaving me wondering if I was seeing things and if I wasn't, then what was up with Alec?

After Alec left, neither of us was in the mood to continue, although for different reasons. Liam was furious not only that we had been interrupted but that Alec had seen us in such a position. But for me, it was different. Being interrupted normally would have pissed me off, but instead, I found myself dwelling on Alec's reaction.

As Liam carried me against his chest back to the pack house, the feeling that I was missing something was almost overwhelming. That night as I lay awake next to Liam, I made a mental note to get ahold of Jade and Leia the next day and get their opinion. And with that thought, I rolled over and drifted to sleep, curled up next to Liam.
