Normal Life
Standing on the rocky path, looking at the sun set hitting the water. She can feel the warmth of his touch. "You know the sun hitting you just right makes you look absolutely more beautiful." She turns to look at him with a flirtatious smile, but all she can hear now is a loud buzz. In the confusion she opens her eyes. Laying there defeated in her own bed. Stretching for her alarm. Leah mumbles,"Back to my normal life." Quickly getting up for her shower as she tries to hurry so she wouldn't be late for work. Looking in the mirror as she ties her tie, "I really do hate this job." as she tells herself. Running down the stairs she sees her mom setting the table. "Oh, honey do you have enough time for breakfast?" mom asks. "I made your favorite. Fruit salad." Leah can't help but to smile. Her mom always knew how to use food against her. "Yea mom. I have a few minutes to spare," Leah tells her. After a few minutes of chit chat and nice big bowl of salad, Leah grabs her keys and out the door she went. Making every green light and singing along to the radio, she finally makes it to work. Hands still on the steering wheel, she sits there contemplating if she should go in or go back home. Work hasn't been the same. Some regulars still come in, but she hasn't been bringing home much tips lately. It was a small town. Everyone already knew that it wasn't going to stay busy for long. They just wasn't intending on it drying up this quick. Plus her boss, Richard, never seemed to care about the restaurant. When it wasn't busy Leah and her co workers would use the karaoke machine just to make the day go by faster. Getting out of the car, Leah slowly kicks her feet to the door. Looking around you can literally see the dining hall deserted. Almost like it's calling for attention. "Leah, finally you are here there is a meeting in the break room," Richard chanted. "How I loathe this man," Leah says in her head. Walking back she can see her co-workers.Bobby the cook, Angie and Nicole the waitresses and of course Leah the bartender. Sitting there looking at each other trying to figure why they are there. Richard walks in with his evil smile. "Listen crew, with work slacking in sales. I have decided to cut everyone's pay." Richard started. Before he could finish Angie started to yell. "My son's birthday is next month. How am I suppose to get him anything if you cut my check?" Bobby agreeing,"This is the second time in 2 weeks." Leah just sits there. No emotion. Richard walks out pleased with himself. Leah tries to calm everyone down. "Look you guys, we knew it was going to happen, but we got this. The regulars come back for us. Not him. Us!" They all look at her, slowly smile. "Hell yeah they do," Nicole yells. She is always our peppy little waitress. We all walk out like nothing can stop us. *2 hours in* "I thought we had this," Nicole said with her head in her hand. Great the peppy one is defeated. Leah just shakes her head with a small chuckle. "Let us get the karaoke started," Leah stated. Hearing Bobby yelling and banging his spatula on the cook top. Leah walks over and picks a song. Singing is her favorite thing to do. She was in choir all through high school. She even got a scholarship, but she decided to stay and be with her mom. They are all they had. Singing her heart, Leah made it her stage. Her concert. Realizing that she is fed up with it all, she puts a plan in action. Putting the microphone down, Leah walks to the register and pops it open. 400 dollars. That was all that was in the register. Grabbing a 100 for herself and giving the rest to her co-workers, Leah starts gathering her things. "What has gotten into you, Leah?" Angie asked. Looking at them, Leah was trying to figure out what to say. She wasn't quite sure herself. All she knew was that she was done living like this. " I can't anymore. He owes me the 100. And y'all deserve the rest. I'm going home. I haven't quite figured out the rest yet." Looking surprised, Leah's coworkers just laughed and told her go home and they will clean up and close for the day. Giving them hugs and a smile, Leah walks out trying to figure out if this was the right choice. Driving for 5 minutes, she decides to go and atleast fill up her tank. Standing in line Leah sees a magazine that caught her interest. "That's it! I will go to Scotland for a few months," She tells herself. Now to figure how to do this.
