After the small clash, the initial group followed the path.
"Stop chattering around about being the chosen one of the fire." Scolded Miguel. "Screaming like an i***t. Contain yourself!"
How to hold back after such special compliments? Jack couldn't wait to finally prove himself, get stronger.
They climbed a long spiral staircase until they reached a red wooden double door. On a metal plate, there was the inscription "director's room". Without anyone making a move to even touch it, the door opened onto a spacious room, furnished with luxurious furniture, with a man standing with his back to a desk. When everyone entered, the door again moved by itself, closing.
"So are you the ones who defeated Third Class?" Asked the man in a husky, gravelly voice "unbelievable" he then turned around. He was a middle-aged man, tall and muscular, with brown, gray hair, square jaw, and stubble. He had a hard expression on his face, like a great, powerful, stern general. He wore a black overcoat over military attire and had a golden brooch in the shape of a bird of prey on his shirt. "You guys just look like a bunch of losers."
"And you look like an generic 80s action figure." Fenrir replied without blinking as if on impulse. The man gave him a stern look while Alexia seemed to look at him as if she didn't believe what he'd said.
"Boy, this is Count and Colonel Artorius Steve Eagle, more respect!" Alexia scolded the boy with respect for the man who was there.
"And the children will not present themselves with due respect?" The colonel asked.
"I'm Jack!" shouted the boy, stepping forward and pointing his thumb at his chest, "the new fire hero!"
For a moment, everyone looked at him in astonishment, not believing their friend's foolishness. The man began to display an even more severe face.
"Hero of fire, huh?You guys don't even seem worthy to train here, what then of being the new legendary Sweks Hyewds... it sounds like... outrage to me."
"Hey don't say that little Steve" Gwendy said, appearing there in a spin of the swivel chair, as if nothing had happened "I picked them for this myself!" Everyone looked at her half impressed, she looked back at them, smiling mischievously. "What's up? You boys didn't think I'd leave you alone in this one, did you? Honestly!"
"You?" The count seemed to recognize the girl, getting a little nervous in her presence "you picked them huh? That's what worries me the most", he walked towards Jack and his friends, analyzing them thoroughly with his hard eyes. "Look at them. Young, inexperienced, weak boys. A bunch of teenagers who reek of failure, with no sense of fight or battle. What reason do you give me why I don't send them to their deaths now, girl? Kerds crystals would be free again!"
"Argh, that's it again! Look I'm just getting tired of this bullshit!" Fenrir complained, "they just threaten us all the time, send us to death, send us to death and stuffs like that. Cool, cool, send to death sounds really cool, but I have it. A better idea. How about this: send them on a luxury trip with everything paid for., huh? How about? Much healthier, huh? Without this death thing, bad example for children, morbid thing."
"The problem is that you took possession of things that were not yours" the colonel spoke seriously "and that entails punishments."
"Okay, you want to kill us, don't you?" Arthur growled, taking the lead "you can try old man, I'm not afraid!"
"Well, here we see a brave little boy." Eagle looked at him seriously for a moment, and then a surge of immense power came out of those eyes. It was an exorbitant amount, far greater than anything Jack had seen so far. Her friends also seemed to feel her, especially Arthur. Suddenly, everything was gone. "Hmm, Hope you understood the difference between our powers, young man, although I didn't even need to move a muscle to finish you off. Any of our agents could do that" he looked at Victoria "like you, Wind Blades. And if I ordered you to kill the newbies right now, what would you do?"
Victoria widened her eyes, not knowing what to say. "This guy" Jack thought irritably.
"Here," said Fenrir, offering his crystal to the man, "that's what you want, isn't it? Swallow it and leave us alone. All this talk of not being worthy and blah blah blah is getting on my nerves. I didn't even want all of this in the first place."
"The kids you've got have no sense of respect, girl" Eagle commented wryly to Gwendy "should I teach them the lesson?"
Fenrir, looking seriously at the man, pressed his crystal, and shadow sparks stirred around the object.
"First of all, sir colonel. If you're such a badass, and if this was so important to you, why did you let him be robbed? Even if it's a slight irony of fate, we're the new Six Warriors, whatever that means. We're going to be the heroes of both worlds, or we'll die in the attempt. We and we alone are the holders of such power now, even if we don't seem worthy then, sir colonel, earl, or whatever you are, no matter what your rank or prestige in any place, we are not your men. We are the new heroes, and you should treat us as such, so if anyone deserves one lesson of respect here, I'm sorry to say, but it's you.” Everyone was wide-eyed and open-mouthed, looking at the serious expression Eagle was beginning to make.
"Wow, when did Fenrir get so brave?" Jack thought.
"Boy" Alexia babbled. "Do you know who you're dealing with?"
It was then that Fenrir smiled sympathetically, in a way that was very rare to happen.
"Just kidding!" He said.
"What?! And I thought you were being brave you coward!" Jack thought.
"It's just kidding. I'm not sorry to say that. I think you needed a few words with so many sycophants around here." Fenrir continued.
Jack smiled at that, and wanted to laugh.
“So that was it, you bastard? This is the guy I consider my rival!”.
"Boy!" growled Colonel Eagle as Ethan took the lead.
"Wait, wait Mr. Eagle, don't take seriously what my friend here says," he said, smiling gently, "I mean, you wouldn't take the words of a little boy like him seriously, would you?" that words made Fenrir frown. "We know we must treat you with all the respect you deserve, and we are here, humbly, so we can do our best."
"Hm" the Count analyzed "the bearer of the light crystal, huh? Fine words, young man." He then walked across the room, until he came close to a wall, where empty armor carried swords. The colonel took one of them and ran his finger along its edge, as if analyzing how sharp the weapon was. He flicked it through the air twice, before continuing his walk around the place. "On other occasions, I would even let you live your little lives in peace. But what is at issue are the magic crystals of the Sixers. You don't know what terror that awaits us, the great Demon Emperor, waiting for the time of your awakening to spread your fury over both worlds. But I liked your words, young bearer of the crystal of light, you have the humility and ability to try to use diplomacy in your favor. Ethan, isn't it?"
"Yes, sir."
"I liked your words, as expected from a chosen one of the light" he walked over to the boys "I will be able to let you live, and continue as the chosen one of the light." Ethan smiled broadly, but Eagle wasn't finished "but that insolent will have to pay" he pointed his sword at Fenrir "Get out of my way, and let me end his life. Do this, and you'll be free of my sword."
"But Colonel..."
"Nothing of 'but'. I won't give you another chance."
"You are too powerful to be bothered with these insults sir and…"
"Shut up, Ethan" Fenrir asked, with the same bored look as he always did, "enough trying to do the sycophantic style, it doesn't suit you."
"What's going on Fenrir?" Ethan asked his friend "I expected this from Arthur or Jack, but you..."
"It will be quick and almost painless. Get out of the way, Ethan. I'll count to five" clarified the colonel "one… two…"
Ethan then held the tip of the sword in his hand, looking seriously at the colonel.
"I had to continue studying and not family or place to stay in this city. Fenrir and his family welcomed me and treated me as one of their own. I see him as my little brother. No matter what you promise me" He said casting a glance at the colonel who seemed to glow for a moment, "it's not worth the betrayal of my friends. I'm the eldest of them, it's my job to protect them to the end."
"That's it Ethan" Jack yelled, then looked at the colonel "hey old man. If you want to kill us that bad, go ahead and try!"
"Well, such a pity," Eagle said with a shrug and then shoved his sword against Ethan's chest. The weapon easily went through the boy, who opened his eyes wide, in pain. Jack was stunned, his friend Ethan… damn!
