Saturday 23 November *URSULA It just struck 4pm. Our friends,family and colleagues have started arriving to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Everything has been set. The deco music and food. My Princess,Melody is still getting ready. She's turning six but very outspoken and smart. Her father is upstairs helping her while I'm welcoming the guests and giving out drinks. Melody comes first to both me and Kurt. When it comes to her,everything is done with love and speciality. She's a big girl now,started 1st grade this year. Makes me even more excited to have this party for her. As a 25 year old mother,every little thing concerning my baby is a big achievement. 'Come here. Come,come,come.' I pull aside my cousin/best friend,my aunt's daughter aside so she can help me with guests. 'What's wrong babe?' She questions me with a bit of worry on her face. 'Nothing,nothing. I just need to prepare the cake then check on Kurt and Melody.' 'And you want me to welcome the guests.' She completes my sentence as I nod with a smile on my face. 'Ursula but I need to mingle with the single dads.' 'Is that a yes?' 'Fine,fine but it'll cost you.' She says crossing her arms. 'I know,and yes. You'll get extra cake.' We bothlaugh as I head to thekitchen before going upstairs to my daughter's room. *KURT Being in this room with my Princess and getting her ready for her birthday party makes me realise how lucky and blessed I am. Melody came at a time when things were falling apart and she mended everything. So much for time has gone by. She is growing up so quick,my little girl. Of course there were challenges and difficulties. Being a 27 year old dad to 6 year old is no joke. I was devastated when I found out I was going to be a father at 21. I was terrified but there was no turning back. I had to work hard to provide for my daughter. I did and I raised my daughter with a lot of love and care. There's still a long way to go but if I were given a chance. I would choose to have and to raise my Melody over and over again. She's my Pride,my Diamond,my Life. 'Daddy what do you think?' That's my baby walking out of her closet. She's dressed in a sweet peach short dress. Her brown curly hair up in two cute buns. She's wearing white pump heels. 'Oh my goodness! Who is this?' 'Daddy it's me,your Melody.' She has this big beautiful smile on her face. 'What?! How did my Melody get more prettier in just seconds.' 'Look daddy,it has a big ribbon.' She smiles twirling,showing me the big ribbon at the back of her dress tied in bow. 'Wow...as big as the sky.' '(She laughs really loud holding her tummy) Daddy it's not that big.' I let out a big sigh as I kneel down to her height. 'Oh my Princess. you look beautiful my love,my future doctor. I hold her hands admiring how beautifully she's growing to be. 'Look how big you've grown.' 'No daddy don't cry. I'm not getting married yet you know.' She says wiping a tear off my face. 'And you'll never get married. Not as long as daddy is alive. These silly boys will have to play far away from my Princess.' 'Daddy(Laughs)' 'Okay but honestly though my love. I'm really happy you know,yet another birthday.' I'm happy too daddy. Much happier than when I started school.' 'Why are you lying sweetheart? You weren't happy at all. I had to fetch you during lunch break remember?' '(Covers her face with her tiny hands) No daddy I just missed you.' 'I know,I know.' We both laugh really loud as I tickle her. I then pick her up and make her stand on the bed. 'You know I love you right?' 'And I love you too daddy.' 'And I would do anything and everything to make you happy.' 'Anything?' 'Is there something you wish for?' 'Actually daddy...(She places her tiny hands on both my cheeks) I wish that you and mommy dance together at the party.' 'Melody no(Removing her hands from my cheeks) Ask for anything but that.' 'But daddy...' '(Gasps) Wow! Is that my Princess?' That's Ursula walking in hugging Melody as I move away from her. 'You look amazing,so cute.' 'Actually daddy got me my dress.' 'Oh he did?' Ursula sarcastically asks looking at me. 'Yes and he also helped me get ready.' 'You look amazing dear. Well,your friends are here. Wanna go downstairs with mommy?' 'Can I come with dad? He's my date.' 'Oh! You don't say. Well hurry up okay,your friends are waiting. I love you.' 'I love you too mommy.' She kisses Melody on the forehead then walks toward me. 'Hurry up and get Mel downstairs,people are waiting.' I just nod and she walks out. I take a deep breath then turn my attention back to Melody. 'Well Princess,everyoneis waiting for the girl of the moment. Shall we?' I let out my hand for Melody but as she's about to grab it. I pick her up and spin her around. 'Daddy stop it! Put me down.' She's laughing and screaming at the same time. I put her on the ground and holds her as she regains her balance. 'Not fair daddy. I'm not a little girl anymore,never do that again.' She commands me putting her tiny hands on her waist. 'But you're my little girl.' 'Daddy!' 'Okay okay,apologies ma'am. I will never ever do it again.' I reassure her putting my hand up as if pledging. 'Just one more time?' 'Daddy no!' She laughs hugging her body really tight. I'm just joking,shall we?' I let out my hand as she holds it. 'Of course,time to cut the cake.' She says as we both walk out laughing.
