Chapter 1: The Prison That Could Never Be Escaped
Chapter One: The Prison That Could Never Be Escaped For over a century, the world had whispered one name with fear, hatred, and disbelief: Black Fortress Zero. It was more than a prison. It was a legend, a nightmare, and a symbol of absolute power. Built beneath a volcanic island in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean, its exact location was erased from every public map. Satellites were programmed to blur its image. Ships that drifted too close mysteriously disappeared, and aircraft were diverted hundreds of miles away by classified military protocols. Governments denied its existence, yet every intelligence agency knew it was real. The prison had only one purpose: to ensure that the world's most dangerous people were never seen again. Terrorist masterminds. Crime syndicate bosses. Military warlords. Cyber criminals capable of collapsing entire economies. Corrupt dictators. Rogue scientists. Assassins whose names had become legends. Once sentenced to Black Fortress Zero, they simply vanished from history. No appeals. No visitors. No lawyers. No hope. In one hundred and twelve years of operation, not a single prisoner had escaped. Not one. Every generation produced men foolish enough to try. Every attempt ended the same way—with death, disappearance, or a fate so mysterious that no one ever learned what became of them. The prison itself seemed almost alive, adapting to every trick and predicting every move before it happened. People eventually stopped trying. That was exactly what its creators wanted. Far above the prison's underground labyrinth, violent waves crashed against razor-sharp volcanic cliffs. Towering black walls rose from the sea like the remains of an ancient kingdom, crowned with radar arrays, missile batteries, anti-aircraft systems, and silent surveillance towers that never blinked. Hidden beneath those cliffs stretched over three hundred levels carved into volcanic rock. Each level had a different purpose. Isolation. Interrogation. Containment. Research. Execution. And places no prisoner was ever supposed to discover. At the very centre of this underground empire sat the prison's brain. An artificial intelligence known simply as CERBERUS. Unlike ordinary security systems, CERBERUS learned. Every conversation, heartbeat, facial expression, walking pattern, and emotional change was analysed in real time. If a prisoner became unusually calm, the AI grew suspicious. If two inmates exchanged glances too often, cameras quietly multiplied around them. If anyone dreamed of escape, CERBERUS often recognised the signs before the prisoner acted. The machine had one command engraved into its core programming: No one leaves. Thousands of miles away, inside a heavily guarded military courtroom, one man refused to lower his eyes. His name was Elias Kane. Thirty-eight years old. Structural engineer. Quantum systems expert. Former adviser to several governments. According to official records, he had masterminded the largest cyberterrorism attack in modern history, sabotaging military satellites and causing catastrophic failures across several nations. The evidence appeared overwhelming. Encrypted communications. Financial transfers. Witness testimonies. Digital fingerprints. Every document pointed to him. Yet Elias knew the truth. Every piece of evidence had been fabricated. He had uncovered something no government wanted exposed—a secret programme involving illegal scientific experiments, political assassinations, and the disappearance of innocent people under the guise of national security. Instead of rewarding him, they erased him. The judge's voice echoed through the chamber. "Elias Kane, by unanimous decision of the International Security Council, you are hereby sentenced to permanent confinement at Black Fortress Zero." The room fell silent. Even the journalists stopped writing. There was something chilling about hearing those words spoken aloud. It was not merely imprisonment. It was a sentence to disappear. Two heavily armed soldiers approached. Steel restraints locked around Elias's wrists. He looked neither frightened nor angry. Instead, he smiled. A tiny, almost invisible smile. One of the guards frowned. "What's funny?" Elias answered quietly. "If they have to hide me somewhere no one can find me..." He paused. "...then they're far more afraid of me than I am of them." The guard struck him across the face. "Walk." Six hours later, a military aircraft disappeared into heavy storm clouds. There were no windows inside the transport compartment. No clocks. No communication. Only twelve prisoners sat chained to the floor. Each represented a different nightmare. A cartel leader from South America. A biological weapons expert. A notorious assassin. A former dictator. A cybercriminal known only as "Cipher." No one spoke. Until an elderly prisoner whispered, "First time?" Elias nodded. The old man sighed. "I've transported prisoners there for twenty years." "You were a guard?" "I was." "What happened?" "I asked too many questions." Elias looked carefully at him. "You survived." The old man laughed bitterly. "No." He leaned closer. "I simply haven't realised I'm already dead." Hours later, the engines changed pitch. The aircraft descended. Heavy rain battered the metal fuselage. The rear door slowly opened. Cold air rushed inside. Elias stared. At first he thought the mountain rising from the ocean was natural. Then he noticed the walls. Missile launchers. Massive gun batteries. Watchtowers disappearing into storm clouds. Hundreds of drones circled the cliffs like metallic vultures. The island itself appeared carved from black stone. Lightning illuminated enormous steel gates built directly into the mountain. Above them were five words. BLACK FORTRESS ZERO No prisoner spoke. Even the most feared criminals suddenly looked uncertain. The aircraft taxied into an underground hangar so vast it resembled a hidden city. Robotic guards stood motionless. No human faces. Only machines. A metallic voice echoed through the chamber. "Welcome. Escape probability... Zero percent." One by one, restraints unlocked automatically. Not because the prisoners were free. Because the prison no longer needed chains. It had become the chain. As Elias stepped forward, he noticed something no one else seemed to see. A tiny crack. Barely visible. Running across one section of the enormous ceiling. Most people would have ignored it. But Elias was not most people. He was one of the greatest structural engineers alive. He instantly recognised what the crack meant. The prison was settling. Its foundations were shifting—almost imperceptibly. No one else noticed. No one else cared. But to Elias, it was the first flaw in an empire that believed itself perfect. He said nothing. Instead, he memorised its exact location. For the first time in one hundred and twelve years... Black Fortress Zero had admitted a prisoner capable of seeing what its creators had overlooked. And somewhere, deep beneath the prison, hidden behind layers of steel, concrete, and secrets, something ancient stirred—as though it had been waiting for this very moment. End of Chapter One
