Chapter one
Bethany's POV
It had been a long day…
I had gone horseback riding and I could not feel my head.
I sat this with no exaggeration.
I could not feel the small beautiful part of the body that stood majestically on my neck.
It was the only thing that I could do and think of at the moment
Everything else was exciting
I remember waking up earlier this morning and I wanted nothing to eat or drink.
My morning favorite was served to me that day.
Scrambled eggs and freshly pressed orange juice.
When I felt like it, I added a side of french toast to it
But today, the table was filled to the very edge with food and I could barely fit a blueberry in my mouth.
I felt full, even though I had eaten nothing, but that was okay,I mean, it was normal for every excited girl who was excited for ten events that were about to go on in her life.
“And here you are!” My mother called out to me.
I found myself taking my gaze away from the window and turning my head towards the source of my mother's voice
“Hey…mother…..” I said to her,
She smiled as she walked closer to me.
“I did not see you there…” I said to her,
“Of course you did not see me coming,” she told me as she played with my hair…
I giggled as she sat down right in front of me
She was my strongest support through life
It was safe to say that she was the only support that I had, but she would not let me say that.
“You have a lot of people to thank for all that you have been through, and where you are!” She would often say whenever we had the chance to talk to that level
I would always brush it off with some jokes. I probably would bring something up to deviate the bone of contention to something else.
“Yes mother!” I said to her after she had spoken.
“So….” She said as she plucked one grape from the bunch that lay on the table.
I was surprised why she said nothing about the grape scissors
It was a thing here apparently
Trust me, you would not want to hear me talk about it.
She took her time as she chewed the grapes and swallowed.
“We have a big day ahead of us now do we not?” She asked me.
I could feel the butterflies in my stomach flutter more hazardously than they ever had..
The next best thing that popped up in my head was to stick a blueberry in my mouth.
“Huh?” She said to me,
“I do not want to talk about it now mum!” I said to her,
“I see….”she said..
I raised my eyebrows as she made that statement, I was eager to know what it was that she saw that she was trying to pass across.
She was always a fan of teasing me.
And she was doing it this time around
“I suppose you do not want to talk about it, but we just have to!” She said to me,
“Not now, mother!” I said to her as I tried to stop myself from laughing.
“So tell me….” She said to me as she took another fruit of the table and chewed
“How does it feel to be the latest bride?” She asked me
“I am not yet a bride!” I said to her, “you do not have to jinx it yet!”
She lifted up her brow as she looked at me, “you do not believe in that load of crap now do you?” She asked me
I could only afford to be silent,my mother was always a logical person.
Superstition was not something that she was fond of, it was also not something that she loved to see in her children.
“Oh come on mother, you are bringing in a gun to a knife fight”
“Not my fault”
I sighed.
“Now ... .I know that you are tired and scared, you might even be nervous even, I guess that is the only reason why you would think I'm that manner” she said to me.
“But mom…”
“I understand, you have nothing to worry about..”she said to me.
“You love him do you not?” She said to me,
I did, I truly loved Edgar.
“Yes…” I said tj her, my eyes on the ground
“That is all that I needed to hear!” She said, “and as for your dress, I would suggest that we both go in the evening”
“That is fine with me…”
“Since that Is settled,” she said as she stood from the chair, “I guess it is safe to leave, I have other things that I would love to do….”
“Bing watch fire and ice?” I asked her
She gave me a surprise look and then burst out into a hearty laughter, “how did you know…” she asked.
“You are my mother!” I said to her
“Well that is one way to reverse that….” She remarked.
“...and for the past few days, you have been ordering in lately!” I said to her
“Dumplings and egg rolls,” she said.
“Yup!”
I could feel my strength returning, alongside the appetite that I had lost earlier
I grabbed the toast that was on the plate in front of me.
I had gone cold.
As expected, I could deal with this cold toast
It was my fault that it went cold anyway
My phone began to ring.
Before I could reach out for it, my mother beat me to it by looking into my phone while smiling.
“Who is it now!” I thought.
“Oh…” I said as I looked into my phone at who it was that was calling me.
It was Edgar
I saved his name with a bunch of emojis and it was obvious to determine who he was.
“K- I - s - s - I - n - g” my mother said in a sing-song Voice as I picked up the phone and walked away from her.
“Hey!”
I could feel him smile from the other end of the phone as he responded to me.
“Hello sugarplum…”
His voice always made me feel like a medieval princess who was being wooed by a jovial suitor.
“Oh come on…” I said to him, “you flatter me!” I said to him,
“Flattering would not be stating the obvious, like how your smile lights up rooms!” He said to me,
“Nope!” I said as I tried to fight back the smile that was forming on my lips, “you are not doing that again with me!”
“If you say so….” He said to me, “how's the preparation going…” he said to me.
I sighed, I was too nervous to do anything, “fine….” I lied to him..
“You are still nervous, are you not?” He asked me.
“No” I lied again, the last thing that I would want to do now was to keep him from thinking I was having second thoughts about our wedding.
“Another lie!” He remarked as he called out my bluff.
“Alright!” I said admittedly, “Maybe I am a little nervous about the whole thing,”
“It is fine,” he said to me, “this sounds like something that can be fixed by a lunch date!” He said.
I took a quick glance at the meal on my table that was getting cold..
The once sumptuous meal now looked boring to me.
“Fine….but is it not bad luck to see the bride before the wedding?” I asked him
“It is quite obvious that your mother is not home, judging from the way that you are speaking!”
“Ha ha!” I said, “funny, what do you have in mind?”
“Send me your location….I will come pick you up!”
“What a gentleman!” I remarked, “See you in fifteen minutes!”
“I love you” he said to me before the line went dead.
“Of course you do…” I said
“MOM!!!” I yelled, “I will be back home later tonight,do not bother waiting for me!”
…….
“Like always, he never disappoints” I said to myself as I walked Into the restaurant that he had picked out for me.
He did not come to pick me up, he had to deal with something.
He said it was something about his family who was just returning back from her penthouse aboard just for the reason of this event.
It was his aunt.
He claimed that she was a big figure, I did not understand a word of what he had said when he was speaking.
It was one of those billionaire habits.
If she is to be there,he has to be the one to welcome her.
I had no choice, this was the first and he had good reason too so I decided to go out.
But I did not expect him to bring me here.
One thing that I quickly noticed was that the entire establishment was empty.
The only souls who were alive there were just me and the driver who had just left me outside.
“I will be out there waiting ma'am,!” The driver said to me as he took a bow and walked out.
Just as he approached the door I called out to him
“How long will he take?” I asked the driver, “Edgar?” I said to him
“Any time soon….” The driver said but was cut off by Edgar who just walked into the establishment.
“Baby!!!” He said go me as eh opened his arm and walked towards me
I frowned, Thai stopped him in his tracks.
“Impatient I see….” He said as his face grew with a smug grin, “I knew there was a reason why I fell in love with you!” He said to me
I smiled, he always had a way of getting the girl in me.
He just stood there, handsome as the light washed over him highlighting his handsome features
“Let's have our seats now shall we….” He asked as he offered me a seat in the empty restaurant.
Just then, as if on cue, music by one of my favorite artists began playing in the background, Indila’s song was playing in the background.
“I wonder why this entire place is empty!” I said aloud as I took my seat
“Well technically it is not!” He said to me, “we still have you and me and this nice little waiter over here” he said to me as he pointed out to a door.
I assumed that to be the entrance to the kitchen..
“Yes…” I said to him in a sarcastic tone, “this is not weird at all.”
It was no brainer to know what he had done,it was either he bought the entire restaurant or he just booked the entire restaurant for us that night.
“The perks of having a billionaire boyfriend!” I thought to myself.
“So…”he said to me as soon as we were done placing our orders with the waiter, “a little bird told me you have been down lately, can we talk about it?” He asked me.
I hesitated, for some reason I was certain that the little bird in this case was my mother
She was so protective
“Yes,” I replied honestly, there was no use lying.
“Pre wedding jitters?” He asked.
“If that is a thing then yes!”
“I love you!” He said to me,
He has said those words to me several times, but this time was different.
I might not have noticed earlier, but those words are all that I needed to Hear.
“Well that settles it!” I said to him,
“You are welcome!”
And all that I can think of at that was was the wedding I had planned in my Head
“So about introduction night….” He said to me,
I smiled, Edgar was always a good planner, who knew what he had in store
I could only smile as he rambled on and on about what he had planned for the night.
He w
as excited when he got to the part about music.
Apparently his father invited his favorite band and he would not stop talking about it.
I loved the fact that he was enjoying this.
It was cute and fun.
I could stay there all night as I listened to him talk, I Could do this all day long.
