CHAPTER 8

282 Words
Emily's heart was pounding as she looked into Alex's eyes. He had just told her he loved her, and she wasn't sure what to say. "Alex...I don't know what to say," she stammered. "It's okay," he said, squeezing her hand. "I don't want to rush you. But...I had to tell you how I feel." Emily nodded, feeling overwhelmed. She had never expected to fall in love with someone so quickly, especially while on vacation. But there was something about Alex that felt so right. Over the next few days, Emily tried to sort through her feelings. She and Alex returned to Ocean View, but the atmosphere between them had changed. They were more affectionate, more open with each other. Emily knew that she was falling in love with him too. But there was still the matter of her life back home. She had a job she loved, friends and family who depended on her. She couldn't just up and leave everything behind. One day, as they walked along the boardwalk, Emily finally worked up the courage to talk to Alex about it. "Alex...I've been thinking," she began. "I don't know if I'm ready to give up everything back home. But...I don't want to lose you either." Alex looked at her intently. "I understand," he said. "And...I don't want to lose you either. But I can't stay in Ocean View forever. I have my own life too." Emily bit her lip, feeling conflicted. "I know. I just wish there was some way we could make this work." Alex stopped walking and turned to face her. "Emily, there is a way. It's not going to be easy, but...we can make a long-distance relationship work."
