CHAPTER FIVE

Kaiyo walked into the room, suddenly unsure of himself. All the composure he had gathered evaporated in an instant. Beads of sweat formed on his face, and his clothes were suddenly being drenched with perspiration. For what seemed like an eternity, he stood there in the middle of the room like someone hypnotized. The eerie silence was only broken by the continuous hum of the air conditioning systems, and now by the slight creaking of the desk chair as Virgo spun around in it slowly. "Don't just stand there, take a seat." Virgo's creepy smile only made Kay feel more nervous. He knew he was always tense around his boss' intimidating nature, but never like this. Moving tensely, he pulled out a second chair from beside the desk and sat on it. "Good. I wouldn't want you to faint from fright." "Oh, god, he can see through me", Kay thought to himself. He lowered his head and bit his lip nervously. "I'm sorry sir." "Its alright. I have that effect on people. You should be used to it by now. Do you drink?" The wicked grin never left Virgo's face and as he spoke, he stood up and poured himself a glass. The wine was one of those expensive ones that cost more than Kaiyo's one-year salary. "No, sir, thank you sir." Kay was still fidgeting. "Hmmph. Your loss. It would have calmed your nerves. Because what I'm about to ask you needs your full concentration." "Do you know where the orb is?" Kay looked up in confusion. His eyes met his boss', but the man's countenance had changed. The grin was gone, replaced with a more sinister look. His brow was furrowed and his gaze was piercing, as if he could look into your soul. Kay struggled to keep his words coherent. "Wha...what orb, sir?" "Jeezus, for crying out loud, get a hold of yourself you imbecile!" Virgo was visibly annoyed, and his fist was clenched and already shaking with rage. "I'm sorry, sir." The man let out a sigh. The calm returned to his face and he composed himself. It was almost as if he hadn't been boiling like a volcano just moments ago. He pulled out another chair and sat down facing Kaiyo. "Okay, let's try this one more time. The orb that gave you your powers. Where did you keep it? Do you remember anything?" Kaiyo's face was still as blank, and the question confused him even more. "I...I don't know what you're talking about. Sir." "Oh, f**k me." Kay was still shocked at the expletive when Virgo snapped his fingers in his face.
