DAISY'S POV
My heart thumped in my chest as Kyle walked up to me. I knew what to expect - a public humiliation as usual, or maybe a slap. Kyle was the biggest bully in the whole school and literally every single soul was afraid of him. It didn't help matters that he was the joint heir to the throne in our pack, as it made even the teachers to avoid him. No one wanted to get into trouble with him.
"You broke my laptop, Brownielocks," He breathed down my neck.
I shivered as I felt him that close to me and I bent my head low to the ground.
"Look up at me when I'm talking to you," He growled and pushed my chin up roughly.
Our eyes met for a split second before I turned away again. I could see that he was enjoying himself and I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of seeing me frightened.
"How do you plan on getting it fixed?" He ranted on. "Tell me, Brownielocks."
I really hated it when he called me that, but the rest of the class who chuckled at the name seemed to like it.
"I - I - I would get it fixed," I stammered. "Please. Just give me some time."
"Hey." He grabbed my arm roughly and I winced in pain as I felt his claws pierce through my flesh.
"Look at this. Does this look like something that you can afford to fix?"
He turned the laptop in his hand, and I shook my head in the negative.
"Thought as much," He said, a satisfied smile creeping across his features. "Now, what would you do, Brownielocks?"
A part of me was dying to remind Kyle Houston that we lived under the same roof. A part of me was dying to remind him that I had been the one helping him with his arithmetic homework since 6th grade. I really couldn't understand why he was being so mean to me.
"Can't you hear me, Brownielocks?" He barked. "I said, how are you going to fix my laptop?"
I was about to say something when a voice silenced the crowd from the back.
"I think you should let the lady be, Kyle."
The whole class turned in surprise to stare at whoever it was that was bold enough to directly oppose the biggest bully in the school. Kyle on the other hand shifted his attention to the guy at the back. His face was pursed in a smile and I could tell that he was ready to have some fun.
"And who do you think you are?" Kyle questioned, his brows arched.
"Not important," the guy grunted.
"Exactly," Kyle said with a chuckle. "You are not important and so is your opinion."
Kyle spun around to face me again, and he waved the laptop in my face.
"How are you going to fix it?"
"I - I will," I stuttered.
"You have no parents and no money," He sneered. "Out of pity, my mother, the kind hearted Luna took you in when you were just a little child, and ever since you started living with us, you've done no more than cause chaos."
"And do all the damn chores, you lazy brat!" I screamed in my head.
"I'm sorry," I said after a long pause.
"You shouldn't be," the same guy from behind said.
This time, he rose to his full height. I stared him down, with my mouth wide open. He was definitely a new student, as I had never seen him around the school before. He stood some inches shorter than Kyle, and his jet black hair curled across his face, half covering his deep blue eyes. His voice was rich and exotic, like someone who came from a wealthy background, but I knew that there was no family in the pack wealthier than Alpha Houston's. If not that Kyle shot me a hard glare, maybe I would have kept on staring at the handsome figure of the man standing before me.
"Come over," Kyle mouthed with a grin. "Repeat what you just said in this little box here." He tapped his feet on the floor, indicating the exact spot where he wanted the new guy to stand.
I hoped that the sweet new guy who had just defended me would not fall into Kyle's trap, but obviously, he did. He probably didn't know he was speaking to the son of the Alpha.
He walked over to the box and faced off with Kyle. From close range, I marvelled at how handsome he was, and when he turned to glance at me, my cheeks went red.
"I said, she shouldn't be sorry," He repeated.
Kyle nodded slowly and I held my breath in anticipation of what was coming next. Just as I expected, he spun around at the last minute and threw a heavy punch at the new guy.
The whole class gasped in shock as he caught Kyle's hand midair and twisted it until his bones snapped.
"Mind who you joke around with, Kyle Houston," He warned.
He let go of an already whimpering Kyle and turned his attention to me.
"Come with me."
I had no idea who he was, and although he had defended me, I was pretty frightened by his presence. Nevertheless, I followed him. I walked silently behind him for a couple of minutes and when he halted to a stop at the door of the restroom, my heart skipped a beat.
What were we doing there?
I made to turn around, but I felt his hand squeeze into mine.
"I'm Ethan," He said with a smile. "The new exchange student. Come let's get you cleaned up, hmm?"
He glanced over at my arm and it was then that I realized I was bleeding from where Kyle's sharp claws had dug into my skin.
"Ye - yes. Sure," I stammered.
He pushed the open door and led me straight to the tap. Then, he turned the tap on and gently placed my arm beneath it, allowing the water run down my skin.
"It's just a little scratch," He said as he assessed it. "You would be fine."
He glanced up at me and his lips parted in a smile. "Are you okay?"
Okay? How could I be okay, when literally the hottest guy on the planet was standing over me in a restroom.
"Yes," I managed to mutter. "We need to head back to class so we don't miss the History lesson next."
"Yeah, sure," He nodded.
He retrieved a napkin from his pocket and after allowing water to run on it for a few seconds, he cleaned my face with it.
"You look much better now - "
He paused and c****d his head at me. "What's your name?"
"Daisy," I muttered.
"Daisy," He repeated with a smile. "Now, let's head back to class."
I felt a mixture of disappointment and relief wash over me when he let go of my hand. As much as I didn't like the idea of being alone in the restroom with a stranger, he seemed like a really nice person, and he was also damn hot. Surely, a hug from him wouldn't hurt.
"Sure you're okay?" He asked, drawing me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah I am." I feigned a smile and he scoffed.
"Has anyone told you that you're terrible at lying?"
"You have now," I said with a frown.
"No one appreciates honesty these days," He said and we laughed together.
Suddenly, I felt so at ease with him. I felt like I had finally found a good friend I could tell anything. He weaved his fingers into mine and together we made our way back to the classroom. Everyone had already settled down and the History teacher was writing on the board when we walked in.
She spun around at the sound of our feet shuffling against the floor and she grunted when she saw me.
"The second time in one week that you're coming late to my class," She started. "I think you're getting too comfortable and I should warn you that - "
"She was with me," Ethan cut in.
Miss Adams stared at him, her mouth wide open for what seemed like an eternity, and I noticed that she looked dazed.
"You have a problem with that?" He added.
"No, your Highness," She replied with a quick bow, and turning to face me, she added. "Please have your seat, Daisy."
All my life, it was probably the first time a teacher had called me by my name, rather than the usual "you" and I knew it was because of Ethan. She had referred to him as "your highness."
As I settled down into my seat on that morning, I knew that there was about to be a drastic turn of events in my life, and my new friend, Ethan was going to play a huge role in it.
