CHAPTER 1 - CRAZY LITTLE BROWNIELOCKS
DAISY'S POV
It was the morning of my eighteenth birthday.
I woke up feeling exhausted as I had been up the whole night cleaning up the pack house. The heirs to the throne of the Silver Moon Pack - the famous Houston triplets (Zac, Kyle and Bryan) had just celebrated their 21st birthday and it had been the biggest feast that the Silver Moon Pack had ever seen. Alphas and Betas from far and wide graced the occasion and I had to be everywhere - cooking, serving guests, cleaning. It had been a very hectic day for me and I had no time to attend to my arithmetic homework that was due the next morning.
I grunted in displeasure as I made my way down the spiraling stairs to the dining. It was still very early in the morning and I knew that the triplets would still be asleep. That was why I rose up early. I literally had to avoid them every single morning of my life.
Zac was the eldest of the Triplets. He was tall and handsome, with short black hair and sea green eyes. He was the least annoying of the triplets - never had the time for rude jokes and pranks, but was as lazy as they were.
Kyle was the second of the Triplets and he was a ticking time bomb. He was the tallest by a few inches, and he also had short black hair that curled across his forehead. Kyle had a sharp tongue that could get him out of trouble with anyone and he was the most annoying of the Triplets. He preferred to call me Brownielocks because of my locks, which had started developing a new shade of brown compared to the initial golden colour.
Bryan was the last of the Triplets. He was the most handsome and it was easier to differentiate him from his brothers because he preferred to keep his hair longer. However, he was equally annoying. There was a side of Bryan I liked a lot though - the side that paid attention to little details.
A year ago, he had given me a huge box on my birthday. It turned out to be a gift box - with clothes, some cash and a credit card for shopping, and when I asked him how he knew it was my birthday, he told me that he heard me tell my best friend, Chloe over the phone a month ago. Although we later had a fight that spoiled the rest of the day for me, I appreciated his kind gesture, and never forgot it...
I found my way to the bathroom downstairs and when I pushed the door open, a cloud of steam greeted me. Unable to see past the cloud of steam, I groped around until I felt the base of the bathtub. I pulled my gown off and slowly descended into the warm foam in the tub. It soothed my aching bones, providing me with a momentary distraction from my problems and I sighed in relief.
I stretched my legs out and I spread my arms wide as the warmth of the tub soothed me, and just then, my legs grazed something moist...and warm...and hard.
"Yikes!" I screamed out loud, but all the doors in the mansion were soundproof and no one could hear me.
I watched as a head surfaced from beneath the tub and I growled in rage as the familiar face of Kyle came to view.
"What are you doing here?" I blurted out. My face was red with embarrassment already and Kyle smiled.
"I should be the one asking you that," He snickered. "What are you doing in my bathtub?"
It was then I remembered. The reason I had been waking up early every day was so I could have my bath in the bathtub downstairs. It was way more comfortable than my bathroom upstairs, which didn't even have a tub. Apparently, Kyle had found out that I was using the bathtub downstairs and he had ambushed me. The brat!
"I'm sorry," I muttered.
"You shouldn't be," Kyle replied as he inched closer to me. "We can always share."
I freaked out at that moment and jumped out of the tub. Next, I grabbed my towel and covered my nakedness as I ran all the way to my room upstairs. I could hear the sound of Kyle's annoying laughter as I ran upstairs and I muttered a curse.
If only my parents had not died at my birth! I would have grown up with them, with brothers and sisters perhaps, and probably led an interesting life until I found my mate. But here I was on my eighteenth birthday, but still wolfless and mateless, and worse still, given the impossible task of babysitting three Alpha triplets old enough to have their own pups.
My whole life was a mess!
I grabbed my breakfast from the dining - a slice of french toast and a cup of milk, and I nibbled at it as I made my way to the door.
"Hey, Daisy!" Luna Eva called. "At least eat before heading to school."
"Eaten already, Luna," I replied with a smile.
She scowled at me and waved me away and I spun around, running at full speed across the lawn before she could remember that I had not yet done her laundry.
I got to school a few minutes past eight and I barely managed to slip into the class without getting caught. Our Literature teacher was enjoying himself, as he ranted on and on about the works of Shakespeare, and after a few minutes of listening to him, my eyelids became heavy. The work of the previous day took it's toll on me and I dozed off finally.
About thirty minutes later, I woke up to the sound of laughter in the classroom. All my classmates were gathered at the table which I knew very well was Kyle's. They were probably watching a funny video on his new phone or something, and I wouldn't have cared much if not that they turned to stare at me occasionally.
"Look how she snores," one of them said. "Sounds like the engine of my grandpa's old truck."
Everyone started laughing again, and I rose up to my feet angrily. I sauntered over to Kyle's table to see for myself, and my eyes went wide in shock when I saw the video of myself, as I dozed away during Mr. Cahill's literature class.
"Kyle!" I growled. "How could you - "
"You left me with no choice," He replied with a chuckle. "I had to get that on video."
At that moment, my cheeks were red with anger. I never slept during lectures. The only reason I was asleep now was because I had been too stressed out the previous day, cleaning up after his birthday party, and he had the guts to try to embarrass me!
"It's not funny," I mumbled. "Delete it at once!"
"And what would you do if I decide not to?" Kyle grinned.
I fumed in anger, and in one quick motion, I made to grab the phone from his hand. That was when everything went wrong. My extended body bumped into his table, and the laptop on his table crashed to the floor with a loud thud.
Kyle cast one evil glance at me before rushing to pick his laptop on the floor. All the while, my heart was pounding in my chest. I knew his laptop was very expensive, a customized one, and if anything happened to it, I would be working as a slave for the Houstons for an extra year before I could be able to pay for the damages.
The horrid look on his face when he picked it up confirmed my greatest fear - it had been damaged!
Kyle rose from the floor as he assessed the laptop in his hand.
"You crazy little witch, Brownielocks!" He snarled. "I would make sure to teach you a bitter lesson today."
