Notice: Hey everyone! I had to take a short break from updates due to a little sickness—but I’m back now, and ready to continue. Thanks for your patience! --- Damian’s POV I knew exactly what she wanted from me—my body. Nothing more, nothing less. I carefully got out of the hospital bed, doing everything I could not to disturb Alex’s sleep. She looked too peaceful, and after everything, she deserved that rest. Quietly, I tiptoed toward the door, my heart pounding with every step. This mission could cost me my life—or, if I was lucky, finally give me a sliver of peace. “Sir, where are you going?” The nurse’s voice snapped me back to reality. I turned around slowly, masking my nerves with a small, practiced smile. “Just heading to the restroom,” I said calmly. She nodded. “Alright, sir.” I waited for her to walk away before I made another move. But my mind was already drifting—to that night with Diana. The last time we’d been together. The heat, the sweat, the sound of her voice echoing through that abandoned warehouse. It wasn’t love. It never had been. Just lust—dark and consuming. I shook the memory off and stepped out of the hospital. The cold air hit my skin like a warning. My eyes landed on my jeep. I reached into my pockets—empty. No keys. I glanced around. The lot was quiet. No people. No backup. Just me… and no solid plan on how to face Diana. “Damn it,” I muttered, running a hand through my hair. This wasn’t going to be easy for me. I needed to come up with a plan—fast. “Boss.” The familiar voice stopped me in my tracks. I turned to see Simi walking toward me. She looked tired, her face pale and worn. Relief washed over me. “Thank God it’s you,” I said, letting out a small sigh. She gave me a curious look. “Where are you going? It’s only six in the morning.” She glanced at the slim watch on her wrist for confirmation. “I know, Simi. That’s why I need your help.” She blinked, confused. “My help?” “Yes.” I hesitated for a moment before adding, “I need the keys to the car.” She stared at me, like she was trying to figure out if I was serious. When she didn’t respond right away, I softly called her name to snap her out of it. “I don’t have the keys,” she finally said. “But… I can give you some money to catch a cab.” I managed a grateful smile. “Thank you.” She nodded, pulled a ten-dollar bill from her pocket, and handed it to me. I didn’t waste a second. I took the money and ran straight to the nearest bus stop, my heart pounding the whole way. I knew there were people out there hunting me. I knew walking into this was like handing my life to the enemy. But I also knew I had no choice. As soon as I spotted a cab in the distance, I raised my hand and flagged it down—then jumped in without looking back. The cab ride was quiet, but my mind wasn’t. Every mile closer to that tower, my thoughts grew darker. What if Diana was bluffing? What if this was a trap? But I had to go. I had to end this—whatever it took. The cab finally pulled up to the edge of the old Chapter Chaser Tower, a forgotten place tucked away from the main city. It stood tall and silent, like it had been waiting for me all along. I paid the driver, stepped out, and took a breath of cold, early morning air. The place felt too still, too clean for the chaos I expected. No guards. No Diana. No sign of anyone. My footsteps echoed as I walked inside. “Diana?” I called, voice low but steady. Nothing. Just the faint creak of old floorboards and the distant hum of city noise. I climbed the stairs slowly, every step tighter in my chest. Something wasn’t right. On the third floor, the lights flickered to life. That’s when I saw it—a single chair in the center of the room, and a folded note placed on top. I walked over, heart pounding, and picked up the note. “You always were too predictable.” – D.M. My stomach dropped. Before I could react, a sharp prick jabbed the side of my neck. I spun around, but my vision was already blurring. Voices muffled in my ears. A shadowy figure stepped into view, but I couldn’t focus. Everything spun. The note slipped from my fingers. Then—darkness. The first thing I felt was pain. A dull, throbbing ache pulsed through the back of my skull. Then came the cold. I was lying on something hard—metal, maybe—and the air around me was damp and heavy. I opened my eyes slowly. The light above me flickered, casting long, distorted shadows on concrete walls. I tried to move, but my wrists were tied—bound tightly behind my back. My ankles, too. Damn it. I was sitting on the floor of a basement. Not the tower. Somewhere else. I’d been tricked. My mind raced. Diana’s note echoed in my head: “You always were too predictable.” “Of course,” I muttered bitterly. “Should’ve known better.” A door creaked open somewhere nearby, followed by slow, deliberate footsteps. I sat up straighter, forcing my breathing to steady. Whoever it was—Diana or someone else—I wouldn’t give them the satisfaction of seeing fear. The steps stopped just in front of me. A man stepped into the light. Tall, dressed in all black, with a face I didn’t recognize—but eyes that screamed cruelty. “You’re awake,” he said flatly. “Good.” “Tell Diana I’ve had better welcomes.” “She’s not here,” he replied with a smirk. “She just handed you over.” My stomach turned. “She sold me out?” I asked, though the answer was obvious. “Sold you? No,” he said. “She gave you away. Said you were no longer useful.” I clenched my fists against the ropes. “You don’t know who I am,” I said through gritted teeth. “Oh, we do,” he replied, kneeling so we were eye-level. “That’s why you’re here. You’ve made a lot of enemies, Mr. Blackwood. And now… you’re going to pay your debt.” He stood up and turned to leave. “I hope you’re comfortable,” he added without looking back, “because you won’t be leaving anytime soon.” The door slammed shut. I stared into the darkness. I wasn’t just captured. I was discarded. But this wasn’t the end. No matter what they thought, I wasn’t broken. Not yet.
