--- POV Emilia ---
Tobias slipped his arm in mine, and I snuggled myself next to his arm. The gasps were even louder than the accusations. “You finally kissed me first and I have to control myself because we are around these nosy humans. The only thing I wanted to do was squeal and jump for joy. That will not be happening with an audience. ” He mumbled irritably and Seth snorted, holding in a laugh.
I blushed and shook my head. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to. Also…are all these people looking at us?” I whispered just as quietly as he had.
“Unfortunately. Just stay close and ignore their idiocy.” He answered as we started walking towards one of the buildings.
“See you at four, brother.” Seth said before he flashed a big grin and ran off to a bunch of guys on the other side of the quad.
“Now I get it. That would be the fake happy Seth, right?” I asked curiously.
He looked down at me and I looked up at him while he chuckled. “Yes, that would be the fake happy Seth, as you call it. I will definitely tell him you said that.”
I gasped as he laughed at me. “That’s not very nice Tobias!” I huffed.
He turned to me and wrapped his arms around my waist. “Don’t worry about it. He will think it's adorable.”
I blushed and looked away from him. “I don’t want to be adorable.” I whimpered.
“Hm?” He asked, raising a brow. “You could have fooled me, princess.”
I shook my head and pulled away a bit. I could feel my cheeks were on fire now. “Where is your first class?” I asked, trying to distract him. The age gap between us annoys me. I know that it's only two years, but it is really frustrating that I feel like his little sister's best friend. I want to be his mate...his girlfriend.
He sighed and pulled my hand into his. He was not going to let me out of his sight while we were on campus – as he calls it. “Economics.” He said shortly.
“Like human businesses?” He glanced down at me as we started walking toward one of the buildings. I realized as long as I stayed close to him, I didn’t notice all the stares. I also noticed after the first night together – well, when I was awake – he had changed back to his normal self. Well…at least his normal self with me. Thank the goddess. It was nice and I loved it. So did Natalia.
“Yes, like human businesses. Since my father runs one, we have to make sure we have the correct credentials to run one as well. I wasn’t expecting to get my mate when I came home this weekend, but I was planning on getting my master’s degree right after I completed my degree in Business Communications and Marketing Management.” He said in one fell swoop before opening the door to a classroom.
Well, it was actually more like a small auditorium. We had these kinds of rooms at our training grounds back home. I was surprised to see it looked pretty close to the same set up. Cushioned chairs in the back on five risers moving up the room and a podium at the bottom near a wall. “So…are you still going to –”
“Tobias. Who is this young woman and why is she in my class?” A middle-aged man turned to us from the podium and he was glaring in between the two of us.
I cowered into Tobias on instinct. I wasn’t one for confrontation and I was glad that I had Tobias to do that for me. Why was he glaring? Tobias squeezed my hands and I slightly relaxed. “She is interested in going to college next year, so I suggested she sit in on some of my classes. She wants to go into business and she has been working part-time since she graduated high school.”
The man’s eyes brightened and he nodded. “Of course! Come sit. This is the perfect time for someone to shadow you. Since you know so much about her, may I ask your name?” He said, turning to me. Wow, he believed that story so easily.
I looked up to Tobias and he nodded again. “My name is Emilia, sir.” I said quietly.
“I’m sorry I didn’t catch that.” He said, walking up to me. Great, human hearing sucks.
The class was starting to fill and the man turned to the kids, throwing down bags and squeezing into the seats. “Emilia, sir.” I said again and he turned his attention back to me while the whispers began. Why do I have a feeling those whispers are about me?
“Great Emilia. Good to hear your interest in our marvelous school. I see we have a full house today. I’m surprised. Usually, this room is almost empty.” He said, with a knowing tinge to his voice, before walking back to the podium.
“You may go take your seats now.” He said, nodding to the room.
While we turned toward the audience, I looked up at Tobias. “I don’t think I have heard you talk this much…well ever.” I giggled and he tightened his grip around my hand.
“It’s required in school.” He said shortly, and walked up toward the back of the class. With our impeccable hearing and eyesight, there would be no issues sitting all the way back here.
The minute we sat down at the end of the highest aisle, the people in front of us literally turned around to stare at me. I whimpered softly and leaned back in the chair. “Tobias, is she your girlfriend?” One asked.
“Where did she come from?” Another chimed in.
One guy actually sat next to me and started leaning in my direction. “Is she like a contract marriage or something?” Another asked. Wow, they really do see them as a rich family.
Tobias said absolutely nothing back. He had his notebook already out in front of him and a pen resting on the paper. Then the guy next to me actually touched my shoulder with his and I jumped at how close he was. That triggered a response. Tobias’s head shot toward the kid and he gritted his teeth. “Get any closer and you will need to have your arm reattached.” He said darkly and I literally felt the man's fear as he scrambled to his feet and moved three chairs over.
Once this boy was out of the way, Tobias glared at the people in front of us and they immediately turned and looked back at the front of the class. I sighed in relief and he rested his hand on mine. “Sorry, love. Just a few more hours and then we can go shopping like you wanted.” He whispered to me and I nodded.
“Thank you my sexy Lycan mate!” Natalia shouted and I coughed to hold in my laugh. Thank the goddess that he can't hear her.
"Wait, I thought you had meetings." I said.
"Don't worry about it. Seth was joking. We can work around our meetings. No problem. I don't want you to be bored the next few days while we are at school." Tobias said nonchalantly.
Of course, our conversation drew some attention our way, but the ominous aura radiating off of him was enough to shut that down quickly.
The rest of the day continued as normal. Well, as normal as it could be when I realized I was mated to one of the most sought after men on campus. Once we made it to his last class, business law, I was a bit tired, but really interested in his major. It was really cool how complex a company structure really is.
I went to go sit in the back with him and I was excited that this was a smaller class. Around fifteen or so people instead of the larger auditoriums I was walking to all day. Maybe I could meet some friends here.
Tobias held out my seat for me and I blushed at his chivalry, but before I could sit down, another girl was already there. “Thanks Tobias.” She wined in a nasally tone.
“This b*tch will be roasted!” Natalia growled.
I snorted inwardly. “With what? Steam?” I countered and she rolled her eyes.
“What are you staring at?!” The girl said loudly. “Come sit, honey.”
Tobias didn’t say a word…. Was she…were they…? I looked up at him with tears in my eyes and he turned to me in shock and let go of the chair. “Come.” He said shortly, and he took my hand as we left the room.
“Tobias!” The girl called, whining after us.
He pulled me down a hallway just far enough away from the door and rested his hands above my head as he pushed me back towards a wall. “You are mine.” He said with a growl.
I felt my lips quiver. “Then who is she?” I whispered.
“Don’t care.” He said shortly, and I realized he was fighting for control right now. He was pissed, but not at me.
I reached up to his cheek and rested my hand on it. “Shhhh…Toby…it's okay. I believe you. I’m yours. She’s nothing…I believe you.” I hummed softly, trying to calm him down. I know he didn't have any ill will. I blame the bond. That is what gave me such a dramatic reaction.
Thankfully, that did the trick. He sighed heavily and leaned down to kiss me. He pressed his lips on mine and he pretty much had to lean completely over to reach my lips. I tried to help by standing on my tip-toes and he chuckled against my lips. It made me smile. "You are so cute." He hummed.
“How…how could you?” I heard that shrill of a voice…again.
We pulled away from each other and he looked down at her before wrapping his arm around me and directing us back to class. "Don't ignore me!" The girl shouted again.
I looked back over my shoulder and she was fuming. “T-Tobias, shouldn’t we –”
“No, love. Ignore the ignorant. It’s not worth your energy. You have nothing to prove to her and I don’t want any other miscommunications because of it.” He said softly and I realized he was back in control. “Adir is not an easy Lycan to tame. The more I look at her, the more it will get more challenging.” He said before opening the door for me and holding out my chair once again. I sat down this time and he sat next to me.
His hand rested on my lap and I felt shivers at his touch. I rested my hand on his and he smirked before pulling out the same notebook again and clicking his pen, ready for class.
I watched in awe as he answered all of the harder questions the professors posed and smiled at the man he grew up to be. Aside from his temper, he really was flawless. “You ready to go shopping?” He asked and I turned to him.
“Wait, are we done?” I asked happily.
“Yes, the day is over. I have finals starting tomorrow, so I cannot bring you to class with me, but at least I hope you weren’t as bored as I was today.” He said, grabbing his bag and flinging it over his shoulder. He took my bag in his hand and wrapped his arm around my waist with the other.
“Oh no! It was really cool to be here. Honest.” I wasn’t lying.
He grinned as we headed to the drop off spot we stopped at this morning. “Sup bro?” Seth said, running into Tobias who just tightened his grip on me and made sure I wasn’t in the way. He glared at Seth and I saw his eyes flash and Seth whimpered. “Sorry brother, I didn’t mean to.”
“Uhuh.” Tobias said shortly.
Then Seth had a shocked face and turned around. “Oh, I almost forgot, a couple of my friends wanted to meet Emilia. Word travels fast around here.” He said happily.
They all came up to me and if grins could talk, their faces would be screaming. “Hey, beautiful.” One of them said while he leaned on Seth’s shoulder.
“Seth.” Tobias growled.
He looked up at his brother innocently. “Yes?”
“What the hell?” Tobias countered coldly.
“They just wanted to say hi.” He added innocently again while his friends snickered behind him or drooled. One or the other. It's like they've never seen a dragon before. Human form or otherwise. Saracasm was definitely intended.
I turned on my heels and grabbed Toby’s arm. Not going to do this today Seth. “Goodbye Seth!” I called over my shoulder and he froze, pulling away from his friends.
“Hey! How am I supposed to get home?!” He called.
“You figure it out. I’m sure your friends will give you a ride!” I called back and I could hear Tobias laughing behind me.
Trust me, I was just as shocked as the other people around us. Tobias, my Ice King, was letting down his guard.
