Chapter 3

1044 Words
Sleep refused to take Cassie and no matter how much she forced herself to, it didn’t work. Feeling frustrated, she threw the sheets off her head. Annoyed at how dehydrated she was feeling all of a sudden; it didn’t take long for her to get to her tiny kitchen. Cassie poured herself a cup of water and drowned it in an instant. She took another and another until she felt hydrated. She slowly walked back to her room, picked up her phone and returned to the kitchen. She leaned on the counter. The contract that lasted for 3 years... Cassie frowned at the number of house rules she saw attached to the email and decided she wasn’t going to read it. This is the 21st century and not some 1990 Victoria history housekeeping job description, Cassie reasoned within her and belched when she read that she would be living in the Black Mansion. She was a little apprehensive at the thought of meeting the boss of the house, Elijah Black. But living with him? Now, she understands why Kelly had asked if she had any ulterior motives towards the boss. “Who wouldn’t have?” Cassie whispered to herself as she looked at the picture of her boss critically. He was handsome, about 6’5ft tall, sharp jaws that could cut through anything and muscles that most athletes would only dream of having. Cassie licked her lips at the direction of her thoughts. Then, a thought flicked through her mind. Does he have a girlfriend? She wondered as she frantically scrolled through the post but found nothing about his love life there. Maybe he has a girlfriend, but wants to keep it a secret; she nodded at the possibility of that happening. Cassie knew that she had no chance of being his girlfriend… Besides, she thought unhappily who would want to be the boyfriend to a housemaid or even think of getting married to a house maid? Looks like I get to be Cinderella in this story Dad… She chuckled sarcastically as she tapped her right cheek to get a grip of herself before she finally lost it. But, I won’t be alone in this house anymore. I still can’t believe my luck today. I get to work in the Black’s Mansion and I also get to work with a boss who pays well. I hope you are happy with me where ever you are right now… It didn’t take long for Cassie to fall asleep on the kitchen counter. *** The door shook violently and it woke Cassie up from her slumber on the counter. She fell down with a loud thud. “Ouch...” She hissed. “Who is it?” She cried out and her ribs and head throbbed. The door shook violently again and it only caused her more headache. With the speed of a snail, she forced herself up from the floor. She walked painfully slow towards the door and peeped through the keyhole only to see red eyeballs glaring at her. “It’s Brianna. Let me in!” Cassie rolled her eyes as she opened the door only for it to be pushed wider by her rather aggressive friend. How did she… “Are you going to stand there and glare at me or what? Get your friend a glass of water, she is heavily thirsty.” Brianna drawled, slumping on the sofa behind her, much to Cassie’s irritation. “You can’t just barge into my house Brie and think I would offer you anything, not even water” Cassie retorted, slowly walking into the kitchen and trying to ignore the drumming in her head. “You can get the water by yourself or can’t you?” Brianna sighed dramatically “I can’t, you know how I get in the morning after I am done with my shift. You of all people should understand!” “Brianna, for the love of God I need you to stop yelling. I am in pain here.” Cassie grimaced as she handed a glass of water to her bubbly friend who sat up to gobble the water. She belched uncontrollably afterwards making Cassie hiss in annoyance. “I’m sorry. So, how did the interview go?” She asked. “Well I got the job. I’ll be living in the Black mansion and the contract lasts for 3 years…?” Cassie trailed off. “Whoa!” Brianna exclaimed happily. Cassie winced and glared daggers, daring her to exclaim again “I will be paid 10,000 dollars every month,” “Wow. That’s a lot of money. I am a stripper but I appreciate good pay when I hear some. Have you seen your boss, spoken with him? I hear he is cold. Don’t tell me you didn’t know,” “No. You didn’t tell me who he was. I thought it was a she. I wasn’t worth his time as he had to send his personal assistant to interview me,” Cassie said dryly. Brianna scoffed bitterly “Of course he would. He is Elijah Black, who are you that he would leave the Black Industry to interview you. You are just a house maid,” “Ouch Brie, that hurts.” Cassie deadpanned at her friend’s insensitivity. “I am sorry, but not sorry. I have one advice to give to you. Be careful of his personal assistant and never fall in love with Elijah Black.” “Kelly? I know Kelly is stiff but she is sweet, just like you,” Cassie teased, deciding to ignore the last statement of her friend. She wasn’t planning to fall in love with him anyway. Brianna narrowed her eyes at Cassie’s mischievous ones. “No. Don’t ever compare me with that blonde,” “Okay, now you are just being a racist and I don’t like it,” Cassie feigned annoyance. “If I am a racist, do you think I would be your friend? Cassie you’re the whitest girl I know. I don’t just like girls with blonde, they…” Cassie watched as her former co-stripper of a friend rambled on and on about her disliking blonde girls. Gradually, she zoned out. Her thoughts filled with the one and only Elijah Black.
