Chapter 004

“I don’t speak silence, bubbles, speak up.” Vincent spat, waved his gun. “What the heck is going on?” “I was ambushed, I—“ “Hey!” He grabbed my neck in one swift movec pressing me against the wall. A gasp escaped my lips. when I felt the cold metal of the gun press against my temple. “Don’t you dare play games with me.” he sneered. “I’m not playing games,” I choked, meeting his eyes. “I was ambushed. Someone is—“ “You know, when your family offered to be my wife, I was happy. But then you rejected me and told me that you would fix everything in a few months, your time is up, sweetie pie.” He narrowed his eyes at me. “Now, I suggest you go get a pretty white wedding dress and wait for me at the nearest court so we can become one.” “Wait, Vincent!” I tried to save myself one last time. I had just been through a nasty divorce with a billionaire, the last thing I wanted was to get entangled with the mafia and go from fry pan to fire. “Don’t you at least want to know who did this? Who left me, your fiancé in this state?” This was my last shot. “Who ruined my efforts?” I faked a sob to seek his sympathy. I was never one to use a man. But if it meant saving my family and my skin, I wouldn’t be hesitant. Even if it meant throwing another man under the bus. “This person has entered my life and now, they want to ruin everything. I… the truth is that… I want to marry you.” I lied and held my breath as he eyed me down. “Oh really?” He tilted his head and I nodded frantically. Vincent traced his gun between my breasts, tugging my dress down and resting it there. “Why should I believe you?” “Vincent—“ “That came out wrong,” he shook his head. “You have three minutes to tell me why I shouldn’t shoot your entire family, you and then myself.” “You know what?” I sucked in a sharp breath and moved his hand, pressing my head against the gun. Vincent frowned at my actions. “I think you should just kill me. After all, that man has ruined my life. He has taken everything away from me. First, he took my freedom, then my identity, and abandoned me…” “Now that I finally want to move on with you…” Our gaze met. I knew that he was gauging me and I had to convince him. I had to convince Vincent that I loved him, that I wanted him as much as he wanted me. I had to convince the bloodthirsty monster in front of me that Aiden was the only one keeping us apart. “He is back in my life, to ruin everything, he wants to ruin my business, Vincent,” I hugged the man and hid my face in his shoulder. “Please help me. I need you. I need my fiancé to stand…” I swallowed thickly. “To stand by my side,” I glanced up and we locked eyes. “Aiden what?” Vincent grunted, reaching to pat my head. “Aiden wood.” I gave him the full name. Aiden planned to ruin my business but now, I turned the tables on him. Tit and tat for only tat. “Please, Vinnie, tell me that you believe me, that you love me and you won’t leave me stranded,” Vincent reached forward and wiped the fake tears from my cheek. “Tell me that you will help me make that man pay.” I had killed two birds with one stone. “He is a dead man, my love. I can promise you.” My breath caught in my throat at his words. Wait. I didn’t want Aiden dead. What? Since when did I care about him? I mean, I didn’t want blood on my hands. “No, death is too easy.” I lied, walking past him and internally sighing in relief when he did not drag me back and pull the trigger. My pathetic story was working —Perfect. “I want to make Aiden Wood regret living and crave death but not find it.” Well, that was an exaggeration. But it was worth it. Aiden was the reason I lost my child, because of him, I may never be able to have children. All because he chose his lover over me, his wife when I needed him. “Fine,” Vincent’s baritone voice cleared the fog in my head, “If what you are saying is true, I will spare your life and throw all my plans of shredding your family down the drain, but you must do something for me too, my fiance’…” I turned to lock eyes with Vincent. He had a wicked grin on his face and was undressing me with his eyes. What did he want? A night of roses and pleasure? Disgusting! “I want you to expose Aiden Wood in front of the entire world tomorrow. By dawn, I want to see your face on every newscast, TV, and in every local shop.” Vincent’s tone was sharp and resolute. “You’ll tell the story in detail.” “Why?” I asked as my chest tightened, my past was a place I did not want to visit. “Because there is no better person to bring down a man than a woman he wronged.” “My viper,” He mused,”we will begin the phase of making him pay tomorrow itself,” Vincent explained, closing the distance between us. He kissed my forehead and turned, exiting the room. In what seemed like a few seconds, he was gone like he had never been there. My knees buckled under me and I hit the ground, barely startled by the physical pain in my legs. Whatever I was entangled in now, seemed even worse than what I was trying to escape from and the worst part was— I got myself.
