Chapter 003

“Have you gone mad?!” I boomed, pushing Aiden. “I could say the same thing to you,” Aiden fumed, glaring at me. “How could you stoop so low?!” “Whether I’m stooping low is none of your business, Mr. Wood.” I retorted sharply and matched his gaze. “Don’t forget where you are standing,“ “Where did you get this?” He snarled. “This confidence… is it him?” he gestured at Fer, chuckling. “You must be paying him in kind, right—“ Aiden’s head snapped to the side as my palm connected with his face. The guests erupted into gasps and I stepped up as Fernando winced in amusement “I don’t like repeating myself, Mr. Wood. Today, you ruined my exhibition, but be rest assured that you will pay for it.” I maintained his gaze, unfazed by his darkening eyes. “in the past, you faced your sweet and dutiful wife,” I sucked in a deep breath. “I’m not that woman anymore. You killed her and the child she was carrying for you.” Aiden’s eyes widened at me. “You’re lying. You chose to get rid of thatbaby because of your jealously.” I scoffed as my stomach churned. How could I have fallen for someone so stupid? “I won’t spend a second more around you. Move out of my way!” I brushed past him and marched out of the building, Fernando trailing behind me. “He crossed all of his limits, Emma. This time, you have to do something and something big. We cannot take this—“ I paused as the sound of a phone ringing reached my ears. I frowned, glancing at Fernando before pulling my phone from my bag. We were standing in front of our car down, seconds from leaving. “Yes?” “Miss Roy. We have a huge problem!” The person on the other line, whom I recognized to be my personal assistant cried. My heart raced, “What problem?” “Ma’am…” The woman on the other line choked, “The warehouse… it… it’s empty!” She sobbed. “What? What are you even saying, Betty? What warehouse? Where are you?” I swallowed, feeling my chest tighten. “For pitssake, spit it out, Betty!” “The warehouse with the latest delivery of Vincent’s goods! I-it’s empty! We’ve been robbed! We’ve been robbed, Emma!” She sobbed and the phone slipped from my grip. My back collided with the car as I lost balance and I could vaguely make sense of whatever he was saying. “Emma? Breathe, tell me, what happened? What did that flimsy make-shift best friend of yours say?” When I found my voice, a sob escaped my lips and my body shook. This was bad. This was very bad. Losing merchandise and money was one thing. But the goods, the person whom they belonged to… Vincent. Vincent wouldn’t spare me. We were doomed. It was over. All of it! Forget about ruining Aiden — I and my entire family were ruined! My throat ran dry as I finally made eye contact with Fernando. “Vincent Tan’s goods. They are missing. Everything. The warehouse is empty. Someone stole it.” The color drained from Fernando’s face as I spoke. “Dang it!” He snapped and kicked a stone. “I told you! I warned you! This man, this stupid Aiden would only bring us Bad luck, now look! Who knows what he did!” I frowned, what was he insinuating? “W-What do you mean? What could Aiden have done in such little time?” “Oh, my sweet sister,” Fernando’s voice came out soft and he reached for my face. “You are too naive for this world, do you really believe that is the first time he is setting his eyes on you in the past few months? Of course not. He probably planned all of it. He is not so noble that he would forgive you for ‘supposedly’ aborting the baby.” I struggled to keep standing at Fernando’s words. Could he be right? Had Aiden been so blinded by Elene’s lies that he sabotaged me? Had he known about my existence all along and simply waited for the right time? Of course, he did, how else would he have known that I lost the baby? Or even assume that I aborted it. I tightened my fist at the realization and opened the car door. “I’m going to the office, alone Fer,” I informed my brother and he raised an eyebrow. “Are you mad? I can’t let you face Vincent, alone!” “No, I will be fine, you go, trust me. Your little sister will turn the situation around.” I promised and slid into the car, gesturing for the driver to start driving. The engine roared to life and soon, Fernando was out of sight. I sucked in a deep breath as the driver sped down the road. The drive to the office seemed like hours before he was pulling into the building. I almost ran out of the car, taking quick strides that seemed confident on the outside but were just a reflection of the storm going on inside me. “Emma!” Betty cried with wide eyes as I marched into the office. The brown-haired woman scrambled over to me and hugged me, following me as I walked toward my office, “You… you need to check the boardroom.” I frowned, “Why? What…?” Oh. Everything made sense when the door opened and my seat turned. Of course, he was sitting there, waiting for me. “Ask everyone to vacate the building, Betty,” I said calmly, maintaining eye contact with the bloodthirsty man in front of me. “But, Emma—“ “Now, Betty. You know I don’t like to repeat myself.” I explained calmly and she sighed before leaving the room. The dark-haired man stood up and walked over to me, a sly grin playing on his lips. “You look as radiant as ever,” He commented, “It’s a shame you haven’t earned roses today,” He continued before meeting my eyes. “You failed.” I swallowed the lump in my throat when I caught sight of his gun. My family made the mistake of turning to a monster like him for help. They kept repaying him all these years and were even willing to whisk me off to marry him once I return. Now, Vincent was here. He’d returned before I could even exert my revenge and as the distance between us closed, I realised— everything was ruined…
