As they walked home that evening, their shoulders rubbed against each other from time to time and neither of them moved away. ‎ ‎What had begun as a simple friendship was quietly becoming something deeper. ‎ ‎Neither of them had said the words aloud. ‎ ‎But somewhere between shared dreams, long walks, laughter, and genuine support... ‎ ‎their hearts had already begun to fall in love. ‎‎ "The annual Meirean Hills Cultural Festival was the biggest celebration of the year. Colorful banners hung across the streets, drums echoed through the town square, and the aroma of roasted corn, grilled fish, and spicy suya filled the evening air. ‎ ‎For weeks, everyone had been talking about it. ‎ ‎That Saturday afternoon, Adrian stood outside the Adebayo family home wearing his cleanest white shirt and neatly ironed black trousers. He checked the small wristwatch his father had given him for the tenth time. ‎ ‎His palms were sweaty. ‎ ‎When Grace opened the door, she smiled knowingly. ‎ ‎"You're here for Tiana, aren't you?" ‎ ‎Adrian scratched the back of his neck. ‎ ‎"Yes, ma." ‎ ‎"I'll call her." ‎ ‎A few moments later, Tiana stepped outside wearing a simple sky-blue dress her mother had sewn for her. She had tied her hair into a neat bun, and the only jewelry she wore was a pair of small silver earrings. ‎ ‎Adrian stared for a moment. ‎ ‎"You look..." ‎ ‎"What?" ‎ ‎He smiled shyly. ‎ ‎"Beautiful." ‎ She blushed. ‎ ‎"Thank you." ‎ ‎Grace watched them from the window, trying not to smile too much. ‎ ‎"Be back before it gets too late," she called after them. ‎ ‎"We will, ma," Adrian replied. ‎The festival was alive with music and laughter. ‎ ‎Children chased after balloons across the field while dancers in colorful traditional attire performed in the center of the square. Couples are holding hands and families are gathered around the food space. ‎ ‎"So," Tiana said with a smile, "where are you taking me first?"‎ ‎Adrian looked around. ‎ ‎"To the most expensive restaurant in town." ‎ ‎Her eyes widened. ‎ ‎"Really?" ‎ ‎He pointed toward a woman selling roasted corn. ‎ ‎"There." ‎ ‎Tiana burst into laughter. ‎ ‎"You almost had me!" ‎ ‎They bought a roasted corn and a bottle of soft drink, then found a quiet bench under a large tree. ‎ ‎"This is actually perfect," Tiana said while eating. ‎ ‎"You don't mind that it's not fancy?" ‎ ‎She shook her head. ‎ ‎"One day I might eat in expensive restaurants." ‎ ‎She looked at him and smiled. ‎ ‎"But I'll always remember this." ‎ ‎After eating, they walked around the festival. Adrian won a small teddy bear at a ring-toss game after several determined attempts. ‎ ‎He handed it to Tiana. ‎ ‎"For you." ‎ ‎She hugged the little teddy bear to her chest. ‎ ‎"I'll keep it forever." ‎ ‎"Forever is a long time." ‎ ‎"So?" ‎ ‎"So... don't throw it away when you become famous." ‎ ‎She stopped walking. ‎ ‎"Adrian..." ‎ ‎"I mean it." ‎ ‎She looked into his eyes. ‎ ‎"I don't care how famous I become." ‎ ‎She smiled warmly. ‎ ‎"I'll never forget the people who stood beside me before anyone else did." ‎ ‎He smiled, believing every word. ‎ ‎As the evening became darker, they climbed the hill overlooking the festival. The lights below, shining like tiny stars spread across the town. ‎ ‎"It's beautiful," Tiana whispered. ‎ ‎Adrian looked at her instead of the view. ‎ ‎"It really is." ‎ ‎She noticed him staring. ‎ ‎"What?" ‎ ‎He chuckled softly. ‎ ‎"I was just thinking..." ‎ ‎"What?" ‎ ‎"I hope your dreams come true." ‎ ‎She turned toward him. ‎ ‎"And if they do?" ‎ ‎"I'll be the loudest person clapping for you." ‎ ‎Tears filled her eyes. ‎ ‎"No one's ever said that to me before." ‎ ‎He reached into his pocket and pulled out a tiny silver star-shaped keychain. ‎ ‎"It isn't much." ‎ ‎She accepted it carefully. ‎ ‎"But every time you see it," he said, "remember that even when you doubt yourself, someone believes in you." ‎ ‎Tiana held the keychain tightly. ‎ ‎"I don't know what to say." ‎ ‎"You don't have to say anything." ‎ ‎For a moment, neither of them spoke. ‎ ‎The cool evening breeze swept gently across the hill. ‎ ‎Slowly, Adrian reached for her hand. ‎ ‎He hesitated. ‎ ‎"If you're not comfortable, that's okay." ‎ ‎Instead of answering, Tiana slipped her hand into his. ‎ Their hands found each other and neither of them pulled away. ‎ ‎They stood together in silence, watching the festival lights sparkle below. ‎ ‎Deep inside, both of them knew something had changed. ‎ ‎This was no longer just friendship. ‎ ‎A week after the Meiran Hills Cultural Festival, Tiana woke before sunrise. ‎ ‎She barely slept the night before. ‎ ‎Today was the day she had dreamed about for years. ‎ ‎Her first real movie audition. ‎ ‎Grace was already in the kitchen preparing breakfast when Tiana quietly walked in, dressed in a neatly ironed white blouse, black trousers, and a pair of polished flats. ‎ ‎"You've been awake since four o'clock, haven't you?" Grace asked with a smile. ‎ ‎Tiana nodded nervously. ‎ ‎"I couldn't sleep." ‎ ‎Her father looked up from his newspaper. ‎ ‎"That means your dream is finally knocking." ‎ ‎He reached into his pocket and placed a small envelope on the table. ‎ ‎Tiana looked at him. ‎ ‎"Daddy... what's this?" ‎ ‎"Transport fare." ‎ ‎Her eyes filled with tears. ‎ ‎"You didn't have to." ‎ ‎"I know." ‎ ‎He smiled. ‎ ‎"But I wanted to." ‎ ‎She hugged him tightly. ‎ ‎"I won't disappoint you." ‎ ‎Samuel gently held her shoulders. ‎ ‎"You don't have to make us proud, Tiana." ‎ ‎She looked at him. ‎ ‎"You already have." ‎Outside the house, Adrian was waiting beside an old commercial bus that would take passengers to the city. ‎ ‎"I thought I might be late," Tiana said. ‎ ‎"I've been here for twenty minutes," Adrian replied with a grin. ‎ ‎She laughed. ‎ ‎"You worry too much." ‎ ‎"Today is important." ‎ ‎"It is." ‎ ‎He handed her a small bottle of water and a meat pie wrapped neatly in brown paper. ‎ ‎"You'll need these." ‎ ‎She smiled. ‎ ‎"What would I do without you?" ‎ ‎He shrugged. ‎ ‎"Probably forget to eat." ‎
