Prologue
“Mommy! Mommy!” Her sweet girl, Olivia’s voice rang out in the darkness interrupting her already desperate thoughts as she helplessly tried to bring her car to a stop. “I’m so scared mommy!” Olivia screamed as she placed a hand on Noah’s chest; her baby brother; who was also crying in his car seat.
It was a clear, starry night; like thousands of candles lighting up the night sky. Her car sped up faster and faster on the desolate back road Emma had decided to take instead of their usual route home, because of the beautiful scenery this back road offered. Emma’s car was nearing a sharp turn, where she knew her speed was going to make it impossible to make the turn safely. There wasn’t a single car in sight as her car roared in the darkness like an angry lion ready to kill its prey.
Emma tried pumping her brakes..
Still nothing..
“It’s okay baby! We’re going to be okay!” Emma took one last look through the rear view mirror at her daughter’s beautiful green eyes, as Olivia cried out helplessly time and time again. Tears began welling up in Emma’s eyes as her heart shattered into a million pieces seeing her daughter so afraid. She felt so helpless and useless as a mother, and like she had failed her children even though she knew deep down that was not the case.
Please protect my babies thought Emma right before attempting to make the turn.
Emmas grip tightened on the steering wheel and she held her breath as she turned the wheel; willing her car to make it. But instead Her car flipped over and plowed through the guard rail with a loud crashing sound and the car began tumbling down a ravine going a little over 80 mph.
Glass cut her face, neck and arms as it flew all around them. It was almost a beautiful sight when she caught glimpses of the night sky and the full moon above that caused the shards of glass to shimmer and make her feel like she was floating in the night sky among the stars. Everything happened so fast, yet she felt it all in slow motion. Like time was non existent. Her arm somehow hung out of the window at one point as she searched for something to hold on to and she felt her arm snap and bend in a way her arm should not be bent. Excruciating Pain shot up her shoulder and just like that the pain was gone.
She felt so helpless as her body was beaten and thrown around like a rag doll but her seatbelt kept holding her in place, forcing her to witness her own demise. Emma felt everything and nothing all at once. She knew there was nothing she could do now. The car flipped several times before going off the cliff that was just passed all the brush. She braced herself as her car nosedived down towards the sea, where shallow water and massive boulders were ready to welcome them to their deaths. In a way, she felt relief that it was almost over. But her inner turmoil would not let her give up fighting just yet.
My children, they have to make it through this. Pleeeease I beg you! Emma helplessly begged to whatever higher power would listen as they neared the bottom.
She could no longer hear Adam and Olivia.
Just an obnoxious ringing in her ears and the drumming of her heart growing louder and louder.
Suddenly, darkness embraced her and the pain was no longer there. She could no longer hear the drumming of her heart, or the ringing in her ears.
Silence.
She wished she had stayed home that day but instead she had been on her way home with her children after a play date at her best friend Lucy’s house. That was when she noticed her brakes weren’t responding. How could that even be possible? Her husband, Henry, always made sure her car was taken care of.
Was this really it for her?
Or Did she somehow manage to make it out? Was she in the hospital right now with Henry at her side begging her to wake up?
Her babies?
What about her babies?
That light..
Where is that light coming from?
Maybe, just maybe I’m finally waking up thought Emma, as she willed herself to move towards the light.
Pressure.
There was pressure on all sides. She felt trapped, almost like she was suffocating as she tried to work her way towards the light.
What the hell is this?!
Voices?
....One last push honey, one more and your babygirl will be here....
What the f**k is going on?!
