Chapter 8 : I Made Friends

I run fast towards the gate being closed "No! Let me out of here!" It's completely close, if I got out before they completely close it, they probably shoot me dead. I have no other choice but to complete the task.

When I took a step towards the deep of this cave I heard a howl, definitely a howl of a wolf.

It's so dark in here so I looked for my flashlight. Once I take a look inside it's a bit big, I have to look for a way to get out or I'll be eaten by these wolves in here... I can feel their presence...

Not long after I heard consecutive whines. I followed it to see a pure black wolf limping on his foot, he sensed me as he looked and growled at me. But then, I saw something on his foot, that's why he's whining because he was thorned.

I tried crawling towards him, but he continuously growling at me. I want to help, he's badly hurt. I decided to stay and just bowed down my head. I'm sure he won't bite, he should have done it earlier then.

Suddenly, I felt something touching my head... it's the wolf, he furrowed my head using his nose. So I took the chance to quickly take the thorn out of his foot which made him growled and scratched my arm.

Just great! First day and I got scratched, but I don't mind it. Suddenly, the wolf licked it. I immediately got up and continue looking for a way out.

It's been hours since I've been lurking around but found nothing.

Suddenly, I heard fast footsteps... I turned around and saw a white wolf ready to lunge at me while growling. I quickly took my knife out but when it jumped... a black wolf lunge on that wolf and growled at it.

It was the wolf I helped earlier from the thorn, it seems more powerful than the white wolf because it whined and ran away. 

I got on my knees and bowed down for a gesture of thank you. Again, it furrowed his nose on my head, signing you're welcome, maybe. I started walking again, the black wolf is trailing behind me. Now, I felt warmth that I made a wolf friend.

If it would take more days in this close cave, I'm sure they will eat me alive because there's no food in here rather than me and that's the plan of that old man. I need to find a way out to feed them, so they won't feed on me. But there's no way out, I've been lurking for hours and didn't find any, so I'll make a way out.

I started placing my hand on the wall of this cave, feeling the thickness of the wall, looking for the thinnest part. Yeah, I can feel it, I might not smell the other side but I can hear them by feeling it through my hand, it took me three years of practice and I'm proud of it.

It took me more than 3 hours to find the thinnest part of the wall. On my way I have experienced things, some wolves tried to lunge on me but my black wolf, blocked them and he always won.

The best part is when... from a distance I saw their alpha, it's bigger than any other, he sensed me but it just ignored me.

I think it's already night time when I found it and it's far from the entrance. Good! it's just 2 meters thick. I climbed up and started digging for my haven in the rest of the nights here. It's better so that wolves couldn't reach me.

Tiredness do not fall on me anymore and I never fall asleep on my own will. Sometimes, I used sleeping pills to make me fall asleep.

Until a little later, I smirked at my little achievement. A hole that could be a comfortable place to lay at night, it's 1 meter width, 1 1/2 meter length and a 3 feet height. I can stay here for the rest of the week, but I won't let these wolves kill each other for food.

I went back down to get my bag. Suddenly, I saw the black wolf napping... I sat down near him "I wanna call you jack, can I?" I asked through small voice, he moved his head on my lap and growled slowly. "I'll take that as a yes" I said preparing to stand up.

I climbed up with my bag on my shoulder and ate my food. If I'll limit my food intake in a day from that old man it would just last for four days. Luckily, because of Carlo's food I have plenty of it for a week.

After eating, I started digging again, it's just a circular hole enough for me and my prey to get in. My calculation and instinct is correct, I dig a meter more to breath the fresh air from the outside.

It's mornight, a perfect time for the men in the entrance not to notice. They're far but I can sense them... They are asleep, great! It's time to haunt for food.

I jumped down and run towards the forest with my knife. I don't need a flashlight as my senses are enough to get me on my lead.

Not long after, I smelled a wild boar, I smirked, perfect! When I saw it, it's too big just enough for the wolves, for today. I lunged at it, it's strong so we got to fight, I stopped when it stopped moving. Next, another for my black wolf, I picked quite a big rabbit for him.

It's getting bright, signing that the sun will start to rise, so I decided to go back. I climbed up with the wild boar on my left shoulder and a rabbit that was tied on my waist.

Most wolves are sleeping so I put my preys in the haven I made. I got down with the rabbit. Then, jack immediately stand up and wag his tail at me "Hey, I got a thank you gift for you." I said throwing the fresh rabbit at him, when he caught it, I started looking for a stone that could cover the hole.

When I went straight more, I saw a big stone great for my cover. I tied it in my back by the use of the vines I got earlier and when I got near, I saw a number of wolves under my haven.

They smelled the dead wild boar. I immediately climbed up on the wall and started climbing sideways. When I reached my place, I sculptured the big stone to fit in the hole, just a perfect fit to make it like a secret way in and out of this cave. No one can notice because the color of the stone is the same color as the wall. Just perfect.

Now it's time to feed the hungry wolves, I looked down and see the wolves growling, wanting to reach my place, others are fighting each other. "Sorry, but you have to wait for your alpha." I know a little of the pack of wolves, they have their alpha who lead them and they always stays as a group.

I remembered my mom told me "even the cruel creature have their softest spots." I have to know the soft spot of the alpha, he need to work with me for food and to have his group intact. I just don't want them dead. I put the wild boar in my back and started climbing sideways to avoid the hungry wolves below.

I highly remember every directions in here... When I got near the alpha I jumped down, but still the wolves followed me and now they are circling while growling and roaring at me.

I walked slowly towards the alpha showing my knife to the wolves surrounding me, prepared if anyone of them tried to lunge. thankful again that jack is beside me growling back at them.

With a distance, I'm now in front of the alpha who's sitting above a stone with head held high. He immediately got up and now we are facing each other. When I attempted to move forward, he growled at me which followed by others while the others are howling...

So, I'm now surrounded by what is called a pack of wolves...

I took the big wild boar out of my bag, I kneeled down and lay the boar in front of me. I bowed down, waiting. I fear nothing... Even with the possibility that these wolves might attack me. I have jack at my side.

Suddenly, I felt the wild boar being moved, I looked up to see the alpha pulling it away from me.

He made a sound and started digging on it. Not long after, followed by others, and the others, I think, I was ignored. So I decided to turn my back and go back to my haven.

The wolves are full, so it's time for me to take my nap. For the first time in years I fall asleep on my own will...
