Danica walked around the strange contraption. "Are you sure this is going to work?" she asked.
Charlaine laughed. "So Barbek assures me. I"ll admit it"s a little unusual, but he seems to know what he"s doing."
"Did I hear my name mentioned?" The Dwarf stomped down the deck. It wasn"t as if he were angry, so much as heavy of foot. He came to a halt, looking at Danica. "What did you need explaining?"
"I"m familiar enough with crossbows to understand how this arbalest works. What I can"t seem to wrap my head around are these strange handles?"
"Those are used to control the position of the weapon. This one here"—he pointed to a small circular handle with a protrusion pointing out of its edge—"is used to rotate the weapon through the horizontal plane."
"The what?" said Dani
