Chapter 2

Ever since I mentioned that woman's name, Mayi had been distant from me. She would only occasionally talk to me, and sometimes she wouldn't even acknowledge my presence. Whenever I tried to talk to her or ask her about what happened, she wouldn't respond. I felt like I was invisible to her. I went out of my room to get something to eat, and fortunately, we didn't have any customers at the time. As I passed by the living room, I saw three large bags on the table, and I was about to approach them to see what was inside, but Mayi suddenly came out of her room. I stopped in my tracks. Mayi and I exchanged a brief glance, but she quickly looked away. "Get dressed," she said calmly but firmly. I furrowed my brow. "What? Why?" "Leave now and get dressed," she repeated, not answering my question. I felt even more anxious. I followed her with my eyes as she arranged some things on the table. "Mayi, where are we going?" She paused for a moment, but she didn't turn to face me. "We're going to Manila." I was taken aback. Manila? "Why?" I asked weakly, but I knew she had heard me. She didn't respond. She simply went back to her room, leaving me standing there in confusion. I didn't move for several seconds. I felt a heavy sense of unease, like something was happening that I didn't understand. Why was this sudden trip? Why wasn't she answering my questions? And why did I feel like this had something to do with the questions she had been avoiding earlier? Before I knew it, I was already in my room, getting dressed. I didn't know why I was following her instructions. Maybe it was because I trusted Mayi, and I knew she wouldn't put me in harm's way. But why wasn't she explaining anything to me? A few hours passed, and we were on a bus headed to Manila. Mayi was quiet, staring out the window. I wanted to talk to her, but I didn't know how to start. When we got off the bus, I felt a sense of disorientation. The tall buildings, the noisy vehicles, and the people rushing to and fro were all so different from the life I was used to. I looked at Mayi, and finally, I couldn't help but ask, "Mayi, why are we here?" She turned to me, but she didn't answer right away. She took a deep breath before saying, "I'll tell you later." I felt even more anxious. Before I could ask another question, a sleek black car stopped in front of us. I was startled. The door opened, and two men in black suits got out. They were tall, muscular, and clearly not ordinary men. They approached Mayi, and to my surprise, she nodded at them as if they were old acquaintances. "Ms. Mayi," one of them said. "Sir said we should pick you up." I took a step back. Sir? Who was that? I looked at Mayi, but she didn't respond. She just nodded and said, "Let's get in." I was stunned. "What? Who are these people? Why are we getting in?" Mayi's expression turned serious. "Arya, don't ask too many questions. I wouldn't do this if it weren't safe for you." I felt even more anxious. Who was behind this? And why did it seem like I was the only one who didn't know what was going on? In the end, I had no choice but to follow Mayi and get into the luxurious car. I was quiet as we drove, but my mind was racing with questions. I felt out of place in this elegant, pristine environment. I didn't know how to behave or what to expect. I glanced at Mayi, but she seemed calm, as if nothing was out of the ordinary. Meanwhile, I was getting more and more confused. As we arrived at our destination, I was stunned by the grandeur of the house before us. It was a mansion, not just any house, with a sprawling garden, fountains, and numerous security guards who looked like they were trained to handle firearms. I felt even smaller and more out of place. One of the bodyguards opened the door and said, "Please enter, Ms. Mayi." I followed Mayi quietly, but I noticed that she seemed to know this place well. She didn't appear to be nervous or out of place, unlike me. As we entered the house, a man approached us. He was tall, dressed in a white long-sleeved shirt with a black vest, and had a charming smile. "Well, well, well... who would have thought I'd see you again, Mayi?" he said. Mayi raised an eyebrow. "Samuel," she replied coolly. Samuel? "It's been a long time since we last saw each other, ah!" Samuel exclaimed. "I thought you'd left our world behind." Mayi shot back, "I thought you'd disappeared from the face of the earth, but I guess you're still alive." I was taken aback. They knew each other? And this luxurious house belonged to Mayi? I was getting more and more confused. As Mayi and Samuel exchanged tense glances, I felt like I was lost in a world I didn't understand. I didn't know what was going on or who these people were. One of the bodyguards noticed that I was hesitant to move, so he gently pushed me forward. I found myself behind him, partially hidden by his broad shoulders, as I watched the exchange between Mayi and Samuel. "You're as stubborn as ever, Samuel," Mayi said with a sneer. Samuel smiled. "Not everyone has the luxury of changing, do they?" He paused, then added, "But seriously, what are you doing here? Have you returned to-" He stopped abruptly, his eyes fixed on me. I followed his gaze, and our eyes met. His expression changed, as if he had seen a ghost. He looked shocked and disturbed.
