13 Years Earlier
Kiera awoke with the sun. Swingy her long legs over the bed she jumped up to look out the window. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny Spring day! Excitement bubbling up inside of her as she opened up the window and yelled out “Today is the day!” Startling the gardener who was clipping the rose bushes.
Turning quickly to her closet Kiera put on a simple pink sundress and slipped on her sandals. Going to the bathroom she quickly ran a hairbrush through her hair. She stared at herself for a moment and pleased with what she saw turned off the light and left the bathroom.
Kiera quickly bounded out her bedroom and ran downstairs to the dining room. Her mother was sitting at the table, across from her farther who was busy looking at his phone. Her brother Kode’s chair was still empty.
“Good morning mother, good morning father,” she said. Walking quickly over and giving them both a kiss on their cheeks.
“Good morning, darling!” her mother said with a wide smile gracing her beautiful, full lips.
Kiera’s mother was beautiful and looked about 10 years younger than her true age of 45. She stood an inch taller than her father and had long, auburn hair that fell down her back. Her green emerald eyes sat perfectly on her heart shaped face, her small straight nose fit perfectly, her mom’s demeanor was that of intelligence, wisdom, and strength.
Kiera’s father was a very handsome man who wore his thick, black hair short. He had a round face with hazel colored eyes and a pointy nose. He had power radiating off his body that would bring even an alpha to his knees.
Physically, Kiera was a perfect mixture of her parents. She had her father’s round face and pointy nose. From her mother she had thick auburn hair and her emerald green eyes. Her brother took more after their farther, with thick black hair and hazel eyes.
“Good morning my little bean”, her father said. Putting down his phone he turned to her and graced her with a smile. “To what do we owe the early morning company on this beautiful Saturday?”
Kiera, like must 13 year olds, liked to sleep in on the weekends. Kode, who was 2 years older than her, would often sleep in past breakfast when he didn’t have to train.
“I couldn’t sleep! I’m too excited!” Kiera exclaimed as she took her spot at the table.
“Oh, is today something special?” teased her father. Kiera took the seat next to her mother and stared at her father in surprise. As soon as she sat the kitchen maid set down a plate, silverware, and orange juice in front of her. “Just kidding bean,” causing Kiera to furrow her dark eyebrows with a slight smile on her lips.
“Oh, Rich don’t tease the poor girl!” her mother said with a frown on her face while looking at her father. “It’s an exciting day for her!”
Her father chuckled and slightly bowed his head in surrender to her mother.
“Your right Clarice! It’s not everyday a princess gets her wolf! It’s an exciting day for all of us!” said her father.
After this exchange the maid brought out Kiera’s breakfast. On her plate was her favorite chocolate chip pancakes with bacon.
“A special treat for our special girl!” said her mother.
At this moment her brother Kode came into the dining room. The maids and butler in the room bowing their heads in respect to the prince.
“Good morning mother, father” Kode said with a big yawn, walking over to their mother and giving her a gentle kiss on the cheek.
“Your up quiet early Kode,” said Clarice, smiling fondly at her oldest child.
“Yes, I had a nice wake up from Carebear this morning.” replied Kode, purposefully using her nickname that he new drove Kiera crazy.
“Sorry, Kod just to excited!” responded Kiera absentmindedly as she dipped her pancakes in syrup. Kode scowled at her and rolled his eyes.
The maid quickly served Kode who began to eat his french toast and fruit.
“After breakfastKiera, we have to go pick up Becca and Sophia. We are going into town to pick up yours and Sophia’s dresses for the celebration this afternoon. After that we need to get our hair done and come back to prepare for the party,” her mother said as she pulled out her phone to check her schedule.
Becca was Clarice’s best friend and mate to her father’s Beta Liam. Becca was also a highly trained warrior who served as a personal guard to Clarice. Sophia was Becca’s and Liam’s daughter as well as Kiera’s best friend. They were both shifting for the first time tonight as they had both turned 13 last month and tonight was the first full moon. There were about 5 in total who would meet their wolves tonight: Kiera, Sophia, Charles son of Gamma Zack, Sam the son of one of the strongest fighters in the kingdom, and Sherry a daughter of one of the omega’s maids. In the kingdom there was always a big celebration whenever children shifted but tonight was extra special since a princess, beta, and gamma were all receiving their wolves.
“OK, sounds good,” responded Kiera as she was picking up a piece of bacon.
At that moment Liam came into the dining room, bowing his respect to the king and queen.
“Your majesties, prince and princess,” said Liam.
“Yes, what is it Liam?” asked Rich, looking up at his Beta.
“King Gabriel and his son Stephen are here to see you. They requested a meeting with you before the celebration begins this afternoon.” responded Liam.
King Gabriel and Prince Stephen were from the La Lune D’argent kingdom in Quebec. They had traveled to the Silver Crescent Moon Lake Kingdom in Maine to discuss more about the alliance with King Richard. Although unannounced, Rich new the importance of of meeting with them.
“Thank you, Liam. Kode and I will be there shortly.” Rich sighed.
Kode looked at his father and at his breakfast, cursing quietly under his breath. Damn, sometimes he wished he wasn’t the oldest and heir to the throne.
“Let’s go Kode, you will soon be taking over all the diplomatic issues when you become king and you need to see the importance of establishing good relationships with difficult kings.” said Rich as he stood up, walking over to gently kiss his wife and ruffled Kiera’s hair. As he walked out he turned to look at his son, signaling that Kode should follow.
Looking dejected Kode took one last look at his half eaten breakfast and followed his father out. Kiera and her mother finished up their breakfast soon after and went to the front of the castle, where there was a vehicle waiting from them.
“Mom, what did father mean about King Gabriel being difficult?” asked Kiera. Kiera was sitting in the backseat next to her mom. They were riding in her mother’s preferred SUV a Range Rover.
“Oh, King Gabriel and your father both have strong feelings when is comes to certain issues,” Clarice answered. Kiera didn’t miss the frown that formed on her mother’s face. Clarice quickly hid her concerned look, smiling brightly at Kiera “but let’s not worry about that my darling girl, today is your day! Let’s enjoy our time together!”
Soon after they reached Becca’s and Sophia’s house. The driver got out of the car to open the doors as Becca and Sophia walked down the front steps of their two story colonial style home. Becca always looked like a high profile secret agent. Her short, brown hair was tied tightly in a ponytail. She was wearing black pants, a white shirt, black jacket, and black boots. To top off her ensemble she was wearing black Ray-Ban sunglasses, covering her beautiful blue eyes. Sophia looked a lot like her mother, except with different fashion taste. Today, Sophia was wearing a yellow sundress with white sandals that had a sunflower on each shoe. Her long brown curly hair flowing down her back. Sophia squealed at me when she got in the car next to me.
“Hi Becca! Sophia!” Clarice greeted them.
“Hello Clarice. Hi Kiera.” Becca responded as she closed the door to the front passenger seat.
“Hi Auntie Becca,” Kiera answered back.
Clarice and Becca soon had a glazed over look on their faces and I knew they were mind linking.
“I can’t wait to do that,” Sophia said staring at our moms. “That way we can always talk to each other!”
“ I know,” Keira replied wistfully. “How is Gabe?” she asked. Gabe was Sophia’s older brother, he was a year older than Kode and would eventually be Kode’s Beta. Keira also had a huge crush on him ever since she turned 10. Gabe was hot, black hair like his father, blue eyes like his mother, and the tallest werewolf in our pack (even taller than his dad Liam).
“Oh, same old self absorbed, jerk he always is.” Sophia responded, absentmindedly pushing down the wrinkles in her dress. “Are you excited about tonight?”
“Yes! You?” Kiera responded energetically.
“Yes!” giggle Sophia.
The girls continued to talk all the way to Clive’s. The town that is in front of the castle where most of the werewolves in her pack lived and owned business. The werewolves that lived outside of the town, closer to the castle, were higher ranking warriors, the beta and gamma. Silver Crescent Moon Lake was an extremely prosperous kingdom. It was also extremely large with allegiances from all the Alpha’s in New England and parts of Ontario and Quebec, Canada.
“Here we are!” exclaimed Clarice as they stopped in front of Teresa’s Dress Shop. As they exited the car the people stopped and bowed their heads in respect to the queen, princess, and the beta. Clarice, with Kiera standing next to her both smiled and waved as they entered the dress shop. “Remember to always take a moment to show respect to our pack members. They keep us safe as we keep them safe,” her mother always reminded her.
After picking up their dresses, both girls dresses were white, they continued on to the salon. Kiera stared as her hair transformed into an elegant updo of ringlets with flowers laced into her hair. Sophia’s hair was braided and attached into graceful bun on top of her head. Clarice’s moms long hair was twisted and pulled back in an elegant bun towards the back of her head. Kiera knew her mother’s crown would fit well with that hairstyle. Becca opted out of a fancy hairstyle and was wearing her hair down and straight.
“Our girls looked so grown up!” Clarice squealed as she pulled both Kiera and Sophia in a tight hug.
“They are beautiful,” smiled Becca, pushing Clarice aside for a hug.
“It’s time to go back and get everything ready. I can’t wait to show these two off!” exclaimed Clarice, heading back to the vehicle.
On the way back Kiera and Sophia were talking about tonight and what they think their wolves looked like.
“I think mine is brown like my mom’s. I had a dream the other night where a brown wolf greeted me by the lake.” Sophia said.
“I’m not sure about mine,” Kiera responded . Realizing, like most werewolves who dream about their wolf, she had never dreamt about hers. She knew she had a wolf, she had felt as tingling inside that almost every werewolf experienced. She just wondered why her wolf had never appeared to her in her dreams. Maybe my wolf just likes surprises she told herself as they pulled in front of the castle. If only it had been that simple, maybe Kiera would have had a very different life.
