I slowly flutter my eyes open and it comes in contact with a familiar pair of hazel eyes.
"Stefano." I manage to say.
"Yes?" Surprisingly for me, Stefano replies.
How is that possible? He is not supposed to be here, I am supposed to be at home resting. I shut my eyes close and rub it with the back of my palm. I snap my eyes back open and surprisingly I am not dreaming, this is reality. Somehow, I am lying on a queen-sized bed and Stefano is standing beside me.
"Cristiano!" I yell with tears pouring from my eyes. Is my nightmare slowly turning to reality?
"He is not here. Why would he be? This is my territory," Stefano says settling down on the tip of the bed. I slowly sit uptight and try to think of how I might have gotten here.
Wait, I came back from confronting Stefano, I got offered a glass of water by Cristiano and then I felt dizzy. No way, did my own brother drug my own water just to make me feel sleepy and then sell me off to Stefano?
"That is correct, Aurora. Whatever it is that you are thinking is correct. Your brother Cristiano brought me to you." Stefano deadpans.
I shake my head in disbelief. I try my best to think that my own brother did not sell me off to a ruthless Mafia boss just for his own safety and selfish reasons. No, Cristiano would never do that to me.
"How could you trust him in the first place? I mean it seems like I know your brother way more than you do." Stefano says scooting closer to me. I j******f the bed immediately and shake my head in disagreement.
"Do not touch me." I say through gritted teeth.
Stefano scoffs and rises to his feet as well. I dash towards the door and attempt to open it wide but surprisingly for me, the door is locked. I am stuck here.
"Aurora, you need to accept the reality that you are now here as my wife." Stefano says freezing right in front of me. I gulp a lump down my throat as his hands reach for my cheek and he caresses it softly.
"I need you to adapt quickly. The sooner, the better for all of us right?" Stefano raises a brow at me.
An idea suddenly clicks in my head and that is to pretend like I have agreed with him and once he leaves, I can go through the window and escape.
Yes! When I escape, I will not go to Cristiano since I cannot trust him anymore. I will run to the restaurant where I work and beg my boss for help. That sounds like a plan.
I nod my head in agreement and force a smile on my face.
"You are right, I must accept the truth and that remains the fact that I am your wife to be." I manage to say when, deep down inside of me, it hurts to even utter those words. I will never be his wife, never! At least not without trying to escape out of here first.
Stefano smirks, he digs his hands into his pockets and fetches a cigarette out of it. He lights the cigarette and puffs out the smoke.
I place my hand over my nose to block the smell of smoke and when Stefano notices that, he sighs and tosses the cigarette through the window.
Why does he care if the smell bothers me or not? Why does he even want me here in the first place? So many questions swirl in my head with no answer to them.
"So, now that you have agreed to be my wife, pick a date," Stefano blurts out.
A date? A date for what? The marriage? Why is he jumping to conclusions so fast?
"A month's time", I hastily reply. Hopefully, I will no longer be here in a months’ time. I would be long gone, far away from him and Cristiano. Whatever he plans to do with my brother after that is none of my business. I was an i***t to care about him in the first place.
"No, a month is too far. I cannot wait to finally have you as mine. Pick another date or shall I pick one instead?" Stefano asks. I sigh and say "Next week."
I am very confident that I will not be here next week. I would have my freedom by that time.
"Next week? I like the sound of that," Stefano says with a mischievous smirk playing on his lips.
He sits on the tip of the bed and says "Until then, you need to be of your best behavior if you do not want trouble, Aurora. I am a busy man and I will barely have time to watch over you, so I am placing someone else in charge of you."
Someone else in charge of me? Does that mean that a person would watch over my every move? No, that is not possible. That means Stefano would be going that far, as far as watching my every move.
"Can I at least meet this someone?" I ask.
Stefano shakes his head in disagreement, he rises to his feet and slowly walks out of my room. He freezes in his steps at the door and turns to me. "If you need anything, there is a telephone on the bedside table. Call the maids and they will be at your service."
With that, Stefano turns around and walks out of my room, he locks the door and it makes me sigh heavily.
I am left with the only option of going through the window.
I dash towards the window and open it wide to see how high it is from there.
It is a little high and I am scared that if I do not land perfectly, I might break a few bones. It is worth the try.
I hastily place my leg on the window and I am about to make my next move when my door opens widea and a masculine voice yell "It has not even been a minute, Aurora."
