Chapter VI

Judith sat on the edge of the table while Doodle was wrapping the young woman’s head. Nobody knew what the hell had happened and nobody could get a hold of CJ or Code for that matter. They had both said they were going to go back to Danny’s Bar to talk to Emit, but neither one of them had their phones on them. “What the hell is going on? You were almost kidnapped. Why? By who?” Kay questioned trying to figure out what was happening. Things like this had never happened to them before. Sure the police had tried to find them and catch them multiple times, but never did random men in black ski mask try anything with them. “My question is why in the hell was it the men CJ cut a deal with to sell the explosives the ones that tried to kidnap you?” Doodle said speaking up as she finished wrapping the white gauze around the younger woman’s head. Judith groaned a bit the pain in her head severe. Kay crossed her arms and started pacing back and forth none of this made any sense to her at all – but it didn’t to any of them. “First the assholes in the white masks and now this? Something is going on.” Chaos said speaking up for the first time since she got Judith back inside the hideout. Doodle looked at Chaos and sighed. They had been attacked a lot lately, much more than usual. “Could it be rival gangs?” Kay asked causing everyone to look at her. She made a face. “What?” “You honestly think anyone would be stupid enough to mess with us? We’re a group of government determined terrorist.” Chaos said looking at the woman as if she was stupid. Kay scoffed feeling highly offended. “Then who else could it be!” “No some f*****g gangs!” “What if it’s the government?” Doodle spoke up after watching the two women starting to advance toward each other. They had both stopped when they heard what she had asked. Turning to look at her, both women stood there thinking about what it was she had just brought up. “Think about what you’ve both just said. Gangs wouldn’t be stupid enough to attack us, but then that leaves who left?” “The government?” Judith asked speaking up a bit. Doodle nodded. “CJ said she had a buyer, but nobody else knew who the buyer was right? Why? Why not tell us who the buyer was when we all asked?” “You better start being careful with what I think you’re accusing CJ of doing, Doodle.” Chaos spoke up quickly. She didn’t like where this conversation was headed. She didn’t like it one bit. CJ had been with them since the start. CJ, Doodle, and Code had been the beginning of all of this and to accuse CJ of treason wasn’t something that was going to be taken lightly. “Look, she’s been acting weird lately. We couldn’t get a hold of her after the attack. We don’t know who the hell it was that just attacked us – “ At this point Chaos was slowly advancing toward Doodle as she spoke. “What if – “ “Don’t say it!” “What if she’s working with –“ “Shut up!” “What if she’s working with the government!” She finally managed to say right as Chaos took her hand and backhanded Doodle right across the face. She grunted as she fell to the side a bit and caught herself on the table. She heard a few of the girls protesting, about how this wasn’t the time, and then yelling when Chaos went and grabbed her up by the front of the shirt. She couldn’t even get another word out as she was punched across the face again and pushed back against their meeting table. Turning her head to look up, Doodle seen Chaos had her gun shoved right in Doodle’s face. “Chaos Jesus Christ! Put the gun away! Think about what you’re doing!” Kay shouted flipping out that the trigger happy woman had their third in command pressed up against the table. Looking up at Chaos unfazed Doodle laid there with the barrel of the gun right between her eyes. Chaos’s breathing was uneven signaling that the woman was extremely upset with the argument. “I want you to think very careful about what your next move is Chaos.” Doodle whispered calmly and slow. She had her brows raised, but she was too calm for this type of situation. “If you knew – “ “You really need to shut your chatty pie hole right f*****g now.” Chaos interrupted causing Doodle to quiet. The two looked at each other for what felt like an eternity as Chaos refused to remove the gun from between Doodle’s eyes. “If I hear one more word out of you saying even slightly accusing that CJ has betrayed us, you’ll be sharing a pen and paper with Red. You got me?” Doodle didn’t say anything as she just looked up at Chaos. Pushing the gun further into the woman’s forehead Chaos gritted her teeth. “Got me?” “Yeah. Yeah I got you.” She finally replied feeling the cold tip pressing against her skull. Chaos exhaled deeply through her nose as she pulled the gun away quickly and put it back in her hostler. Just then the door to the hideout opened and in walked the woman of the hour. CJ and Code both walked inside and looked at Judith. “Jesus Christ what happened to you?” Code asked walking over quickly to the poor girl. Judith shook her head slowly, a pain shooting through the back of her head causing her to flinch. “Doodle thinks you’ve sold us out to the government. The guys that came to buy the explosives tried to kidnap Judith and Boxx saved her.” Chaos said not caring that she was ratting on Doodle or not. CJ looked to Doodle and the two of them looked at each other for the longest time. Finally CJ shook her head. “I didn’t sell us out – but she’s not wrong.” The whole room fell silent. Everyone’s eyes were on CJ as she stood there with her arms crossed over her chest. “What? CJ? What are you saying?” Chaos asked taking a small step forward. She couldn’t believe what she just heard. Did she really just agree that Doodle was even partly right about what had happened. “The people that came to buy the explosives were from the Upper Class. Their family is well known for demolition. They were willing to buy the explosives for a fair price, but I didn’t think they’d go so far as to try to kidnap one of us. I’m sorry.” “Y-You’re sorry? You sold us out to an Upper Class family – that’s now dead!?” “Dead?” CJ questioned shock coming over her face. Kay nodded and pointed to Boxx. “She blew up the truck. Used her powers to ignite the explosives from inside the vehicle to save Judith from being taken.” CJ stood there looking at Kay and then her eyes slowly moved toward Boxx, who was over in the corner by the table scribbling something down on paper. CJ’s eyes then moved back over to Doodle. “I need to talk to you in private. Both of you. Now.” She said looking at Code as well. Code looked at the other women in the room as CJ went toward the hallway that lead to the backrooms where they all lived for the most part. Code turned and looked at Doodle, who didn’t seem happy at all, but regardless turned away and went to follow after CJ having Code follow behind her. Walking down the hall and past three doors, coming to the fourth door on her right Doodle walked inside. It was one of the old storage rooms that they used to house the food they kept along with some medical supplies. Shelving and boxes were all that was in this ten by ten sized room. CJ was standing leaning against one of the boxes with her face in her hands as she sighed deeply. Code closed the door behind her as the three of them stood in the room. “I’ve f****d up.” “Yeah no shit.” Doodle said causing Code to smack the woman. Doodle glared at Code who just shook her head and held her hand out toward CJ. “CJ, you didn’t know any of this was going to happen. You were just trying to get us money so that we’d be able to keep fighting.” Code told the distressed woman. Doodle looked at Code baffled and held out her hands. “But it did happen. It happened and yeah, she f****d up.” “How can you act like this?” Code asked looking at the woman bewildered. She’d never known Doodle to act like this before in the past when CJ had messed up when they had first started off years ago. Doodle scoffed and gave Code a quick once over. “Because my cousin about died! Her, Boxx, Red – they were all in danger! Judith didn’t even have her computer on her! She didn’t have her powers!” Doodle yelled as she raised her voice. Code just looked at the woman wide-eyed. She hadn’t known that part. She had figured that nothing had happened apart from the explosion. “I – I didn’t – “ “Because you didn’t care to ask! Jesus, you and Chaos are so quick to assume because you think you know CJ – but you don’t know her like I know her! This is what I’ve been trying to tell you guys!” Doodle said waving her arms back and forth. CJ removed her hand from her face. She looked at her long time friend. The woman was right, nobody else knew her as well as she had known her. “I know you two have been friends for a long time, but that’s not true.” Code said trying to defend herself even if by a little. She felt attacked, she had been feeling attacked for the last few days by Doodle. “You’ve been distant lately and none of us understand why. Ever since you got stuck with this mission you’ve been keeping to yourself – you’ve changed.” “Oh that’s laughable.” Doodle said taking her turn to hide her face in her hands as she laughed a tiny bit. She huffed and looked back up at CJ. “You’re not going to say anything are you? Even though you know I’m right?” CJ just looked at Code and then back to Doodle. CJ lowered her head again as she rubbed her forehead. “I didn’t think that this would end up with two Upper Class highly respected members dead. You’ve got to believe me on this one, Doodle.” “Yeah, I believe you, but the fact that Judith could have died today – is what I can’t believe you allowed to happen.” “What do you want me to say? I’m sorry. I’m more than sorry. You and I both know that – that these people come up missing and everything is going to hit the fan.” CJ said shaking her head as she ran her fingers through her blonde hair. She couldn’t believe their luck. She just couldn’t. This whole week had been complete hell for them in one way or another. “But, I might have a way to fix this.” “And how? How are you possibly going to fix this?” Doodle asked knowing that there was little to no chance of things getting fixed. What plan did CJ possibly have that could possibly fix the damage done by all of this chaos? “We went back to Emit’s today to try and figure out who it was that had attacked us the night we went to get our veils. Today Emit told us that his crew located someone who could tell them what the white masks meant.” “The white animal face masks?” “Yeah, those. Emit said one of his informants found out they belong to a Chinese gang called Red Moon and they’re basically guns for hire.” “Red Moon? Well isn’t that just a stereotype name for a Chinese gang.” Doodle scoffed finding the name ridiculous. Code rolled her eyes and shook her head while CJ continued to explain. “Turns out, with enough money the Red Moon should be able to take on any job that we want them to do.” “Are you saying that you’re going to make your mess up look like a paid hit to these guys?” “That’s what I’m saying.” Doodle stood there for a moment. She didn’t know if she wanted to go along with this whole mess or not.
