(Luca’s POV) The hospital discharged Emery two days later — on strict rest, constant monitoring, and zero stress. Which was ironic, considering what she was about to do. “You sure about this?” Luca asked, rubbing her back as she sat at the vanity, brushing out her curls. “No,” she said. “But I’m doing it anyway.” She turned to face him, her expression calm. “I’m going on air. Alone. I’ll say what he wants to hear. I’ll give him the illusion of surrender.” “And then?” “We’ll have eyes on every exit. Every hallway. Security. Backup. James. This ends tonight.” Luca studied her for a long moment. “You know he might not come himself.” “Yes he will,” she whispered. “Because if he thinks I’ve broken? He won’t be able to resist watching me crack.” ⸻ The broadcast was set for 9:00 p.m.
